My DD9 wants an iPod like her sisters. They have the taller 4th generation iPod Nano 8g. Why can I only find really expensive ones or they are sold out (like at walmart) and the newer 6th generation ones are only $129? She doesn't want the smaller one for some reason, so I've looked for 4th or 5th generation ones.

I'm assuming because they are "rare"? Ebay and Amazon is crazy asking over $200 for these. ?

I would like to know why also. I was looking for a IPOD Nano with a video recorder and Amazon had the 8gig for $284. I am stunned, I can get a 32g IPOD touch for that amount and it has more to offer.

The smaller ones do not play movies or videos. The 5th generation has a camera. And they are going for over 300. I also did not want a touch screen which the current generation has which means I could not add a hard plastic cover to protect it.

I think the nano ipods have gotten way too small. My dd wanted one but I ended up saying no becaise its too small and too easy to get lost. She ended up with an ipod touch and realy likes it.

I just sold one on ebay for $50, it was used (no box or usb cord, I did throw in a case I had for it) but still worked and sold very quickly. Have you looked on ebay because I see a few used ones in working condition that are selling for $60-80.

I guess it just makes me nervous to buy something like that off of ebay and I want it to be new since it's for Christmas. I have bought refurbished items from apple.com and love them, but not sure the refurbed ones from ebay would be in that good of shape? Thanks though!

They are expensive because they no longer make them. Apple scrapped the good nanos after the 5th gen and went in a different direction. My kids have the 5th gens that I think cost around $150 when we bought them... I'm kind of glad to see that they are actually worth more now than when we got them... but they would never sell them because they like the camera too much.... frankly they are much better than the touch because they are much more durable and don't have that touch screen to get broken.

I agree with this. My dd wanted a new Nano when hers died but there is no way I am going to get something that small that will get lost so easily. My youngest wants an Ipod Nano as well but I will probably just give her my Ipod touch.

I recently bought 2 5th generation 16gb Nanos (or whatever the last generation that has NO touch screen) at Best Buy. Might have been refurbs, but at least they have a warranty vs Ebay. They only had a few colors left.

The main reason?? They did not want a touch screen, they are too annoying to deal with...... I use a 3rd generation nano myself, 8gb, it is one of the square ones.

I forget what I paid, but I know the color choices were limited. DH got stuck with ORANGE! LOL. (I like it myself) The other day I was thinking of ordering another, because I sort of feel the same way, and if mine goes, I will want the same type they have......

I wish Apple would go back to those! Thanks for telling me they were at Best Buy - will check it out.

the apple store online has a a refurbished section as well. they don't have the nano you are interested in right now but the list changes pretty often and colors can be limited.
