Why are hotels booked the end of September?

Is there something I am missing or am I too close to my trip to book a hotel? I'm trying to find a hotel for Sept 21-27 and I'm having a hard time. Is there something going on that is going to make the parks extra busy?

All Disney Hotels are unavailable.
Best Western Park Place Inn unavailable.
Howard Johnson unavailable.

I am going to keep trying, but I am worried that if these hotels are full, Disneyland will be crowded. What do you think?

I know that when we had to make emergancy travel plans last year for our March trip, the only place that had openings was the Motel 6. That was six weeks before we went.

I will also say that I will never again hesitate to book as soon as rates are released. I booked in January for our December trip, and we're paying almost $1000 less for the eight nights we're there than the rates are now .

I would like to know the answer to this question as well. We are staying at HoJo's Sept. 26-Oct. 4 but I've tried to make additional reservations for other family members and am finding the hotels are booked. I've checked the convention calendar and nothing big seems to be going on so I'm puzzled. :confused3

I'm guessing the pin code postcard and the AP7 rates are responsible for selling out the DLR hotels. The Entertainment Book rate is responsible for selling out the HoJo. I couldn't tell you why anyone would want to stay at BWPPI though... J/K! ;)

There might be a conference coming in, you could check the convention center conference schedule to see. I know my kids' fall break starts Sept. 27 and goes until Oct. 6, and we are in socal. Maybe that has something to do with it, I don't know though, just making suggestions.

my husband has a convention there that week. not sure how big it is, but i do know they had blocks of rooms reserved.

Mid to late September and early October is always a big convention time and the rooms at the Disney hotels book up fast. Also, as CrazyDuck pointed out, the PIN code discounts have a big impact on availability this year. These were new and people jumped on them, and the rooms connected to the PIN offer have almost all booked up during August - December. And the rest of the rooms are going to the AP holders and what not. So the usual 'off-peak season' is not going to be so 'off' this year.

At the Anaheim Convention Center, the National Safety Council is having a convention from Sept. 17-28th. There's a projected attendence of 20,000. That's a big one.

that's the convention my husband is attending. yikes 20k people!!! my husband has to be in the conferences during the daytime, but i'm sure a lot of the attendees will be bringing their families also. :sad1:

Seeing as the entertainment book rate is available at the HoJo just about anytime the hotel isn't booked over 80%, I doubt that is a reason why they are sold out at the end of September.

Thats a pretty big time span. I would guess that 20k people is spread out over the whole week not one day. I checked Desert Inn and Suites for Sept 17-20 the time I will be there and all days were open and avaliable sooo not sure whats up with everything being booked. I just re-checked for the following week also and it too was open.

All the Australian and New Zealand schools have their two-three week school holidays in late September / early October, and Disneyland is far more "do-able" both time-wise and cost-wise for those of us Down-under than say, WDW.

We booked all our accommodation months ago.

Hope you can find somewhere.

Haunted Mansion Holiday opens on 9/26 so that could account for some of the business over that weekend.

I know quite a few people from both my work and my DD's school are going at that time.

Thank you for all you replies. It is very helpful.

The only other time we have open to go is Thursday Oct 16-Wednesday Oct 22nd. That is the week of UEA (Utah's Fall Break) and the CHOC WALK. I will check those dates out, but I would think Sept 21-28 should be a less crowded time. I just know I need to decided a book soon.

We booked for the 25-30th of September a few weeks back. I think that a lto of hotels were booked through the 26th, so we had trouble with that first night. But there still was availability after that. I wonder if the Angel's most likely making the playoffs is having some effect?

Personally I would avoid UEA week if at all possible. I swear most of the State of Utah heads to Disneyland.
