Why are Disney Hotels so much more expensive than Universal Hotels?

Its to do with this somewhat I believe. https://www.tutor2u.net/business/reference/product-life-cycle
I believe Universal is in growth and disney is in maturity. Disney is trying to hope star wars land and toy story land and the new IPs will push it back to growth, That is my silly opinion. I also think the demand for Disney as an older company is more. And 'recognition' is higher. I personally think Disney has underestimated universal. And HP has woken them up.

on another note this happening on broadway as well with cursed child and frozen. Cursed Child will get great reviews where frozen has got mixed. And cursed child will get the tony

One reason we continue to choose Disney over Universal is Disney's Magical Express. I love that I don't need to rent a car, or even pay attention to maps or directions. And I also love skipping the luggage carousel. That being said, I still would never pay $600 / night. We're booked for August at Grand Floridian for under $300 / night.

Do you mind sharing what rate this is? Is it a Disney special offer or is it a TA offer?

The exclusive TA deals also offers deals throughout the year but those Labor Day deals for deluxes is their best deal by far. I got POFQ the first weekend of November for $180 a night. Plus 8 day hoppers with one free water park day for about $470 each which is cheaper than UT by $10 each and cheaper than Disney by $78 each.

We are paying $192.38/night tax included for POR the week of Memorial Day. Plus we got the free waterpark ticket with our park tickets. I was pretty happy with that price, although I wish the Labor Day offer worked for us but kids are back in school then. I don't want to take them out the first week or two, lol!

We are in NJ and have done the Labor Day deal before since our kids go back after LD. This upcoming trip DD really wanted to do November to see some Christmas decorations so we are going during "Jersey Week." I also get to try F&W! I did want to do Labor Day for those deluxe prices but I'm looking forward to trying another time of year and not sweating half to death in August!

Yeah, ours get out early, before Memorial Day but go back mid-August. I wish they had the Labor day deal over Memorial day too!

US will never be bigger than Disney.

This. Different places in their business cycles.

We spent two consecutive thanksgivings at the both parks, the first at Disney at the Poly and the next year at universal at Portofino Bay. Two very different experiences.

Disney has done a very good job at capturing multi generations. Their resorts are unique and unlike anything we have every experienced. Disney has done a fantastic job at identifying what their core customer base wants and is willing to pay for as well as what they can let slide. For the price, we were left wanting because we were expecting cost to equal what one would get at a normal resort of comparable price.

The key difference is that Loewe’s runs Universal resorts. It’s a hotel business running a hotel business, not a theme park running a hotel business. The product is different and appeals to a different type of traveler.

As frequent business and non-Theme Park leisure travelers, we were baffled and frustrated by things we encountered at Disney because we didn’t understand the Dinpsney way of doing things. At Loews Portofino Bay, it was like being at a regular resort and the service was what we expected.

I say all of this a new visitor. Neither DH or I came from a Disney family so we didn’t go into these trips with history or strong memories associated with an experience.

All good points but I'm not sure if I agree with Disney being in a maturity stage. The rate of growth is not slowing down and the market isn't necessarily saturated.

Disney is still operating under the same business prior to Universal expanding and becoming a major player in the market. They (Disney) have yet to concede to Universals presence, especially in the hotel market, and that I understand. As long as those consumers / hotel guest still believe they are getting a good deal, why adjust the price? What opened me up was the ability to spend weeks and both Dis and US hotels and rate the overall experience, as it relates to the deluxe hotels.

I can stay onsite at a Disney deluxe and be comfortable. But I have prepared myself to know that Disney is priced up and I'm paying for the name / brand (Walt Disney Resort) more than I am the normal things that should come with a hotel stay, i.e.... great service, amenities, cleanliness...etc. Both US and Disney offer those things at their onsite hotels and its hard to say who's is better. This is why I can't understand the difference in price JUST regarding the onsite hotels. NOW... when you factor in other things (the Disney name) perhaps that makes some feel like their getting they're monies worth.
