Why address the entire party with the last name on the reservation?

When I make a resort reservation using the app, or the phone, it is under my name, let’s say “Susan Jones.” I always have the other names listed, my boyfriend “John Smith” and his grandkids “Sally Smith” and “Bobby Smith.” Same with restaurant reservations. However they always address us everywhere as “The Jones Family.” I totally “get” this is a nice touch but it’s uncomfortable as my boyfriend is the one bankrolling the trips and he’s been called “Mr Jones” several times 😂
For our upcoming trip I changed my last name on the app so our new resort and dinning reservations are under “Susan Smith” but I’m wondering how this will affect check in... will it make things more difficult or can he simply show his ID at check in... since his name is on the reservation? Or will mine need to be shown since I’m the one who made it? The credit card linked to my account is under his name, not mine, if that helps.
Thank you!

Blended families and other travelling groups are commonplace now, and I would have thought that Disney would have been well versed in making this comfortable and not awkward. I don't know how to address it, other than enough people telling them. I am sorry they still make this troublesome.

In the future, why not just make your boyfriend the lead guest on reservations if he is paying for the trips? This would solve the issue of being referred to as the "Jones Family". I don't recall ever being referred to as "Family" at a WDW restaurant. I just traveled with another family and the ADRs were under my name. They always referred to us as a "party".

I, personally, would not make a resort reservation with a name that is not on an ID. Why cause a potential problem when there doesn't need to be one?

I don't love it, either. My son is hypenated and my ex and I didn't change our names from our given names, so the X Family thing didn't work for us. And while I know we're outliers in the US (though maybe not in Spain), it's just flat out silly to do at a place where they WANT people to come and bring *extended* family. Extended family means multiple last names. And then they choose ONE last name and put "family" instead of "party". Silly. Irritates more people than it gives warm fuzzies to, imo.

Same.

Agreed.

How would they know which name to choose to put in front of "party"? If you have six different last names, they have a choice of choosing the the last name of the person making the reservation, or randomly choosing one of the last names.

The exception would be if there is a pre paid deposit involved, then it could be the name of the person whose credit card is on file.

I find the “family” part awkward. Not every person/group traveling to disney is a family, “party” is much more appropriate. You reminded me I wanted to write them about that...

That said I would not make a hotel reservation in anything other than my legal name that matches my ID.

(TBH it’s not something I noticed too much before my last trip where I had the new smart TVs at Gran Destino that turned on to say “last name Family”)

My husband jokes about it too because I never changed my last name and I’m the one who books the trips (but using his credit card) so it always says my last name. I don’t care if people call me Mrs. (Husbands last name), so I wish it could just be under his name

I actually kinda liked it last trip. My hubs family still sends us cards where I'm listed as Mrs. ___ despite the fact they know my last name. I get adverts calling me that all the time. I get calls where they ask for Mrs. ___ or the 'woman of the house'. When we took a public couple's class we had a nice eight minute conversation on the phone trying to book it PROMISING her we were a married couple, I just didn't change my name. This distressed her for some reason, or she thought I was sneaking into a class for married couples *Insert eye roll of DOOM here*

At Disney he gets to be called my name. It's about darn time! I crack a joke but really it doesn't bug either of us, it's egalitarian. As for the family thing, well, maybe at Disney everyone is family! XD Ohana means family! Family means no one gets left off a dinner reservation. 😂

Arguably any complaint at all about a Disney vacation can be dismissed as a "First world problem". I don't think many undernourished people in the Third World are too concerned about FP+ tiers, slow service in Disney restaurants, or any of the other gripes you see here.
