hi kelscross,
I am not the big fan of flying but DW is. For our Nov. 2000 trip a couple of things made me say no more flying. Everyone talks about the fact that it is just a 2 hour flight, well that 2 hour flight is an all day affair. We had to be at the airport (Clev.) early. Don't remember how early but I do remember eating breakfast there. By the time we got our luggage, found transport to ASSp and then checked in we had to RUSH to make it to our PS for the Poly Luau for dinner. We left Clev. at breakfast. On the return trip our luggage did come with us to Cleveland. Waited up for a courier from Continental while keeping an eye on their website. He brought 1 at 2AM, said he had no clue where the others were. In the morning there were on the front porch for the world to see covered in snow.
Now we drive. First driving trip we left at 7am or so, drove to Brunswick, Georgia arriving at 8 pm or so. Next morning made it to ASSp before noon (and our room was ready). We broke up the trip home to stop in Daytona for some Speedweeks events.
Second driving trip (this one with a 5 month old). We left around midnight and were taking 71/75 instead of the shorter (for us) I-77 route. The WVDOT site said 77 was snow covered near Charleston. We made it PO-R around 8pm. Had some lengthy stops to keep DS happy. On the way home we stopped at Mooresville, NC. Charlotte is closer to 1/2way, but there was a NFL game or something and I didn't want to deal with extra traffic on Sunday.
This trip should be easier. Driving in the winter is harder because darkness comes earlier and my fear of deer. We should have 3 more hours of light at the end of day alone than Jan/Feb.
