Just wondering....we may,but we havent decided yet. Its looking more & more like we probably will though.Any thoughts?

Why would anyone boycott because of a ticket price increase? That's ridiculous. Businesses raise their prices from time to time. That's life.

If your going to do that then why not boycott Disney cause thier prices are way too expensive

Yeah , was just going to say the same as lawerence, boycott universal and pay $70 to 80 for 1 day at Disney whos rates compared to universal are a lot more expensive

We're not fans of Disney,We prefer USO.I can see a $10-$15 increase maybe, but we stay for over a week & buy the 7 day 2 park tickets.Last year they were $99 I believe & now this year they are around $170,thats almost double in price....come on man.Harry Potter will be paid for in 3 months at this rate.
Say what you may,in my opinion, this much of a price increase at once is ridiculous.

Well, they have had that deal for years (even lower for awhile) and I think it was about time they increased. You can still get 7 days for under $170. Where else can you do that? That's like $12 a day per park. How can you call that expensive? Yeah, it may take us a little longer to save up and come back after we use the last $99 tickets we have this August but that's why we budget. We love Uni and wouldn't dare dream of not coming back!

You could think of the price increase is way to high but if you price just 2 Disney parks to that of what you would have to pay for the new Universal price for a week and I bet its 3 times more higher and don't get me wrong I like some of the Disney parks but not at those prices.
Plus the fact everyone had to have an idea that the prices would increase for WWOHP but as another poster said thats life .

I have to admit that I was a little shocked at the size of the increase. I am thankful for this board because I got this year's tickets from AAA at the old price after word broke about the new pricing structure. At first I was very angry and had the same thoughts as some who say they will skip USO. After having time to reflect on it, with the money we spend on vacation, the extra cost is not going to be the make or break factor for our decision on where to go. Actually, I have always purchased the express pass and last year I opted for the VIP express pass that cost nearly $150 for one day with unlimited Express. We are likely to stay onsite from now on if we enjoy the PBH this Spring and I have every reason to believe we will. I guess my point is that emotionally I reacted with anger, but logically, it's not all that big of a deal for us.

"Sounds Like Life To Me..."

No boycotting here. I don't like price increases with anything, but that's just how it works. It's not like it's a neccesity like food, therefore as a consumer if I don't like it/price, I don't have to buy it.

I do/did think it was a drastic price hike though but thanks to the Dis I was able to get a heads-up on the skyrocketing price & nabbed 4 tickets from Kroger at JUST $89.00/ea.!!! That's less than we paid two years ago! And again thanks to this wonderful board & all of it's very helpful members, I got the heads up on the "stay more, save more" therefore saving even more $$$!

Last Fall we did Disney for the 1st time and I know I can't exactly compare the two, but relatively speaking, I feel like Universal is an absolute steal.

Gotta just love the DIS!!!:lovestruc

Thanks to this board, we were able to get tix at the old $99 special. (Thanks, guys! You're awesome!) But I wouldn't boycott -- I've got an 8-year-old boy who's dying to see Harry Potter. And I guess I don't understand the anger: I've been reading for months that prices were going up once HP opened, so this isn't a surprise. And the cost is still much less than the Mouse House (which I love, don't get me wrong. But a bargain it is not.)

If we go again, we would probably only get 2-3 day passes, so we wouldn't need a whole week anyway.

The $99 price was a promotion, if you look at the 1-day 1-park ticket prices they have matched WDW right across the board. Adding an extra year onto annual passes was another promotion. The promotions lasted for years because people would look at what they get for their money and choose WDW. They are rolling the dice with Harry Potter. If it doesn't pan out the promotions will be back. So you can wait and see what the market decides.

How many people are actually going to buy the 7 day pass? Most people will go for probably two days max. That is $135. Disney is $208 for a two day hopper. I think most people who go are going to be venturing away from Disney and think that this is a bargain.

I wouldn't call it a boycott, but it may be a budget buster if you are buying several tickets and had planned on $99. Luckily, a kind Dis'er was able to get some of the Kroger $89 tickets for me (Thanks Purseval:goodvibes) before they ran out or we would be trying to figure out how to bridge the cost difference.

If you get the 1 day voucher for the Disney GAD program, you can get a 7 day ticket to Disney for like $177. A little more than Universal, but you do get more parks and rides.

We are doing both this year.:cool1:

I think that it was quite a jump all of a sudden but personally I'd pay it. Universal has been way too inexpensive for too long and is worth the new price.

Why would you even pay that? Why not go with an annual pass for just a few dollars more? It gives you great benefits, and its good for a year....so if you go now you can go a year from now and still get in without paying again.

This.

Also, if you live in FL, especially central FL, and you love Universal, an AP is worth it! Some of the APs let you pay per month!

Yes, I'm also boycotting Disney because it's not free on my birthday anymore.

It's called a promotion for a reason.

newbie here, hope it's ok if I just jump in :)

I wouldn't boycott for several reasons.

1.) I like Universal! I want to go! If i can justify 70 plus dollars to go to a Disney park for a day, (per person) then I can certainly justify this.

2.) lets face it. Universal would not notice. There is NO way there is a staff member looking over a million page report, asking a co-worker, "hey, I don't see thebigkahuna on this list...I sure hope it's not a boycott!" :rotfl:
If I don't go, someone else will.

3.) I wouldn't boycott any other product or service for increasing their prices, why would I do it for a major tourist attraction? we all know prices are higher there, but lets face it, the local zoo (who have NOT increased their prices) just isn't the same experience :)

Well, we aren't boycotting per se but we also likely won't be able to go. The focus of our trip is Disney World. While it is expensive to buy the first Disney day, it decreases with each day purchased (I am sure Universal does something similar). However, there is so much more for our family at Disney World and that is the focus of our trip. My husband mentioned spending a day at Universal on our trip which sounded fine. However, when I looked at prices and transportation expenses we decided that there was just no way that we could spend that much to go one day at Universal this time. Perhaps on our next trip in a few years we will do a split stay and stay a few days at Universal and a few at Disney. This would probably make it more cost effective for us. But our price for just going one day was way too high for it to be worth it to us.
