Whole MILK

Hello!
I have a one year old who drinks whole milk. I have searched the threads on here and could not find a clear answer. So I went on the Disney Mom's panel and found a response from 2010. (I am not able to post the link bc of my lack of posts on this site) Here is the answer...

"You can find nearly every variety of milk readily available at Walt Disney World. The restaurants in the parks carry whole milk, 2%, skim, and soy milk. You can also get chocolate and strawberry milk at most places. Similarly the refrigerator cases in the resort gift shops and food courts all carry many types of milk, including whole milk."

Does anyone know if this is true?
If it is, and the restaurants all have whole milk...I should be able to go to any and just purchase it right (without eating there)?

THANKS!

Here is a thread from early August with lots of good advice.

As I said on that thread lots of the counter serve restaurants do serve whole and IMHO if a typical 1yo has 2% once or twice while on vacaiton that should be fine.

As far as purchasing only milk this will be fine at the counter service restaurants but you will have to wait in line. I probably wouldn't bother trying to just get milk at a table serve restaurant though unless it is an emergency.

When DH and I took our DD at 17 months, she drank whatever milk (2% or whole) was served in the restaurants and QS locations.

I'm happy to say that after a week of *whatever* kind of milk that was, neither her growth nor her intelligence have been stunted in any way after a week's worth of consumption.

That being said, if you're that uptight about the whole milk for the duration of the trip you can always order groceries and have whole milk delivered. I believe it was also available in the market at the Beach Club (at least it was in 2009) for purchase.

If it helps, you can buy Horizon brand single serve packs of milk at the grocery store. They are packaged in a way that they don't have to be refrigerated. They are usually $1 ea, but they're organic. We buy them to keep on hand for trips.

Just FYI, They are 1% and work great for our 2yo.

We were there in June with our 18 month old who only drinks whole milk and water. We had a lot of trouble finding whole milk in the parks - we only found it in the resort food court. I wasn't concerned about our son drinking non - whole milk, but after af couple of days we realized he was only drinking his breakfast milk. He didn't like the other milk, so we stopped getting him milk with dinner for the week.

Thanks for posting this question. My DD1 is also just drinking whole milk and water and I didn't know how readily available it was in the parks. I think we may put milk in a Hydroflask and use that for the mornings in the parks, then re-fill later in the afternoon :)

If you have a fridge in your room, you will find it less expensive and easier to buy a 1/2 gallon of milk from the gift shop at the resort. We saw milk of various types in at least 5 gift shops when we were there in Dec. 2010, even skim milk which is often not as readily available as other types.

We went for my dd's 1st birthday and at that time it was available at all QS and TS locations - I did have to ask for it. But that was also 6 years ago so I don't know if it's still there or not.

Interesting thread, thanks! I never even thought to actually ask for whole milk. I just thought Disney would force everyone to be 'healthy' like they do with many other things and only serve 2% or 1%. I just went with whatever they served us so probably 2% and they also got 2% in the room since it was easiest to buy just 1 gallon from the store at the beginning of the trip for all of us (we get skim, 2% and whole at home!!). Personally, I think it's not a big deal for us for a week or 2.

Thanks for posting this! I've also been scouring for whole milk threads. We are going to WDW in just over two weeks :cool1: with our DD1, and I want to be prepared! Right now, we pack whole milk in a thermos if we think we won't be able to find some, but it only keeps it cool for about 6 hours.

Parmalat makes shelf-stable single serving sizes of both whole milk and 2% milk.

We toss a few single serving milk boxes along with the rest of our juice boxes and snacks into a small ice-filled soft-sided cooler when we hit the parks. If they get used, that's great - if not, they go back to the room with us.

Don't laugh, but one of my boys only drinks his milk ice cold so to keep it colder longer for school, we freeze milk in ice cube trays, fill up the thermos halfway with the frozen cubes and then pour more milk in to fill up the thermos all the way.

That way as the cubes melt there's no water diluting his milk (as you'd get from regular cubes) and it stays cold quite a bit longer.

If you have access to a fridge, even the little ones sometimes have a small freezer section so you might be able to make milk cubes... if you're so inclined. :goodvibes

You would need to go to a counter service restaurant. A small stand may not have it.

My pediatrician never reccomended whole milk. Though children need fat to grow milk is not a healthy fat.

Just curious... Whats a healthy fat if milk isn't? My pediatrician actually does recommend whole milk for my girls. My youngest is 2 and in the 3rd percentile for weight.

We were just there a week ago, seems like forever. We stayed at Pop and I can say for sure that the Pop food court had whole milk in a 500ml bottle(2 cups, not sure how many ounces). I didn't notice what the gallon jug was though.

Unfortunately I didn't look to see what kind of milk dd drank in the parks. She did have milk with every meal though. She doesn't like soft drinks. I do know there was a difference in what size she received with her adult meals. Sometimes it was a small one, sometimes a bigger one and once she got two small ones. I don't think there is any such thing as consistency at WDW. :rotfl::confused3

Unless it is an issue where your child just doesn't like anything but whole milk, it probably wouldn't be a big thing if he/she drank a lower fat milk for a week or two.

Good luck on your milk mission.
