I know there are many companies in Orlando that do this. We may need 2. who has the best record out there. Not sure I want to deal with the buses, so what is the difference of renting at each park. If you hop, does that rental carry over to the next park. (If available) Is it cheaper to rent for length of stay from Disney? What is the discount for doing it that way. Thanks.

There is a lot more information about renting ECVs in post #2 of the disABILITIES FAQs thread. You can find that thread near the top of this board or you can follow the link in my signature.

There are a number of companies listed in the disABILITIES FAQs thread in post #2. They are listed there because DIS posters have reported generally good experiences with all of those companies over the years.
Some people prefer one company and others prefer another. The best advice is to contact some of the companies, check out their prices, their equipment and what your general feeling about that company is from your contact with them.

1) You will save a bit of money by renting from one of the off-site companies compared with renting each day from the parks.
2) If you rent in one park, save your receipt and you will not have to pay again for rental in the second park if they still have ECVs left when you arrive.
3) There are limited numbers of ECVs available for rental in the parks. They are first come, first serve with no ability to reserve one ahead of time. If you arrive right at opening, you should have no problem, but getting to a park later in the day may be a problem (whether you arrive late or park hop).

WDW does have length of stay for wheelchairs, but not for ECVs.
From what I had heard, they tried length of stay for a very short time, but were not able to guarantee that one would be available, so they discontinued the program.

We always use Walker's Mobility for my mom's and have always been very pleased.

I have done a little off site and a little park renting. Off site companies tend to be cheaper but they rent smaller, less 'hearty' ECVs, with a range of about 14 miles. These are fantastic for us when we stay on site and use the busses, they are very maneuverable. We would always put it on the charger when we took our afternoon break and they were great, no worries. However this last two weekends we were staying off site and not taking afternoon breaks, touring the parks from around 8 am to 10pm. Between the long hours and getting back and forth to the parking lot the little ones ran out of charge at the end of the night. We actually had to leave Epcot early one night because my ECV was dying and I hate being pushed around in a chair. So this last weekend we decided to try renting in the parks again, which I hadn't done for years. We had no problem getting an ECV when we park hopped in the middle of the day and didn't have to worry about the charge. It is more expensive though and you don't have your ECV if you go anywhere else.

As long as we're staying on site or taking mid day breaks to recharge I will continue to stick with the off site rental companies. I've used Apple, All Star and Walker. All were great, I probably liked All Star / Walker more. They do rent the heavier, longer range ECVs (the ones with a 24 mile range) but they cost very similar to what is available in the parks and they are not as easy to break down and haul around, especially when you have a smaller car as I do.

Hope some of that helps. :goodvibes

I did rent one from Disney a couple of years ago. The only problem I had with it was it went sooooooooo slow. Now I know you can not race around the parks and you have to watch for people, ( I never ran into anything or anyone)but I always felt like it was going to dye on me. I am looking at walker and they have one with 25miles per charge.

The one I rented at the park this weekend was comparable in speed to the ones I rented off site.

I rented from apple scooter a few weeks ago and it was wonderful. it had lots of power I was not at half speed most of the time. I rented the larger 3 wheel scooter and it had a 25 mile range. It went every wheres. One night I forgot to charge it and it lasted the whole next day actually that is the only day the battery light went off full charge.
the price was great I needed it for 10 days and it was $184.50 when I booked it they asked me where I heard about them from and when I said the Dis they gave me the better rate.
Have a great time....

If I wasn't bringing my own scooter, I would rent from Apple. They have the same scooter that I have at home and love!

One tip for renting scooters and battery length. A lot of how long it lasts is, how fast you are going, whether you turn it off when sitting still for a length of time, and the big one is, your weight and the weight of whatever you carry with you on it.

If the weight limit of the scooter is 300lbs and you weigh 275 plus you add a backpack with another 10+ lbs of stuff to it, your battery is not going to last as long. If find that if you can get a scooter and be at least 50lbs under the weight limit, your scooter will go much farther.

I rented from Apple in jan...the larger 3 wheel...it was great..never used more than 1/2 the charge...easy to manuer and get on bus...if you rent from park it is still a long walk from the bus to the ECV rental...this allowed me to explore the whole resort also...will rent from them again next trip

Our DSTA recommends Walker Mobility. Great rates, they deliver it to you at your resort, and you have several choices of what kind/weight limit.
