Who wants to talk clothes? Not my DBF! ;)

I'm trying to decide what to pack for WDW. DBF's response is "you look beautiful in everything- just dress comfy and surprise me" haha- I know he doesn't want to discuss fashion.

We'll be there 14 days. We're going to three nice dinners out, one night at the Boardwalk, 1-2 nights at PI, 2-3 mornings at water parks, but mostly park days. I am so tempted to overpack, but I know it's a bad idea.

Also, while I recently lost a couple pounds, I'm still quite far from my ideal weight. I'm hoping to find a pair of shorts over the weekend- because I don't own any (except ones to sleep in/bathing suit cover up ones)! I'm 26 and I don't want to look matronly, but I also don't want to overexpose myself. Most of my clothing is J Jill/New York and Co. kind of stuff, if that helps.

Here are the outfits I'm having trouble picking:

The days we go to water parks- I won't feel comfortable in a bathing suit, so I'll need some type of cover up that won't interfere with me going on all the rides, actually I'll need to bring two cover ups- one to stay dry for travel and one to wear on the rides.

The day we have 8:05 ADR's for Crystal Palace, I'm hoping for an early morning castle pic of DBF and me- I'd like something simple and cute that I won't sweat to puddles in or be uncomfortable in all day running around MK.

Dinner at Le Cellier, Bluezoo, Jiko and Bistro de Paris- I'd like to look presentable, but not overdressed.

Any advice? I don't want to pack my whole closet. ;)

There are alot of awesome swim suits out now with shorts or a skirt instead of just the regular skimpy bottom, usually in a tankini form. Sears has Lands End and Pennys has their own kind too. I love these things, my bottom half is my worst half, think overgrown pear, and these things cover a multitude of problems . It is all attatched so you don't have to worry about the bottom falling down or sagging when wet. Then to cover that, a nice skirt gets you to the pool or park in uttermost style :thumbsup2

The rest of the time, I just go mix and match and try to pack things that all go together so I am able to have a bigger selection of outfits, based on what kind of mirror my hotel room has in it. :cutie:

thanks!

I'm kind of pear shaped, too. My chest, waist and hip measurements often fit into three different sizes on the size charts, lol.

The skirt over bathing suit idea is a good one and it reminded me - I just remembered a long, sleeveless cotton dress I have- that might be a cool cover up option. I am going to a few stores this weekend so I'm going to make a list of a few things I'd like to pick up- definitely one pair of shorts, in a dark denim - maybe a bathing suit or a pair of board shorts to wear over one of my suits.

Maybe I'll have to do some laundry. I don't think I can bring 14 pairs of pants plus cover ups, tops, dresses, my 7 pairs of shoes, etc.

Lulu, I totally feel you on the wardrobe issues. I've also lost a bunch of weight but I still don't feel all that thin (I'm a size 10), and I do not like feeling overexposed. I'm young, 27, but trying to find hip, young clothes that aren't totally skin-baring (booty shorts galore in the stores! :( ) yet aren't totally matronly is quite a feat!

One thing I've found that I LOVE are Bermuda shorts. I have a couple of pairs that are knee length, which I find to be pretty flattering on me (I hate my legs, so getting me into any pair of shorts is a miracle!). I like that they keep me cool, yet cover up my heaviest parts. Another lifesaver are these wonderful capri-length pants made out of this very lightweight material that has a slight stretch to it -- they're made by Danskin and I got them at Wal-Mart in the athetic clothing section.

I think the key to not overpacking is keeping everything neutral so you have a raft of outfit possibilities with only a few pieces. All of the bottoms I'm bringing are black, navy blue or grey. I'm bringing shirts with a little more color to them, and my Crocs, in light blue and purple (may also get a black pair of Mary Janes before we go).

As far as a cover up for your water park days, you might want to look into a pair of mesh athetic shorts (I got a pair for $9.99 at Target). You can wear them while walking around and also while on the waterslides.

Now, shopping, I know something about!! :thumbsup2 I have this GREAT denim skort that I  . I wear so much, I'm sure my family is tired of seeing me in it!! It looks like a skirt all the way around. For your CP bfast, I was thinking something like that with a plain sleeveless white top. That's what I would picture you in if I actually knew what you looked like! ;)

I also have a great tankini that I LOVE with a skirted bottom. Highly recommend one. I have flaws, but you would never know in this suit.

Not sure what you think of layered tanks, but I think that would be cute with the board shorts that the pp mentioned.

Good luck shopping!

Thanks for the suggestions and the laugh. I am going to NY and Co to spend a gc tomorrow. I will let you know how it goes. :)

You guys are great! :cheer2:

I'm so happy to find this thread! I'm 27 and pretty, uh, unevenly shaped as well. I've been stressing over what to pack for our late August trip and have been a little embarssed to ask about clothes on the board for fear of sounding silly.

We are a bit short on money right now so I don't want to go out and buy TOO much, though a few pieces are needed. I only own 2 pairs of shorts (which I never wear, incidentally), and one of them I'm not too happy with. I like the idea of Bermuda shorts. I may have to go out and try to find some!

I also plan to pack one pair of capris and one pair of long khakis. I may also throw in a simple black skirt since it won't take up much room and we'll be having at least one nice dinner. As for shirts, I plan to take 2 tank tops, 3 tshirts, a polo, and probably one nicer looking cotton shirt.

I don't plan to do much swimming, if any at all, largely because I'm not comfortable in a bathing suit. I do have a pair of cover up pants, though. They're made of that very thin cotton material and cover my problematic lower half nicely. I actually got them cheaply several years ago in August, when all the summer things went on clearance.

I am a bit concerned about shoes. I do have one pair of tennis shoes that I'm bringing, and I have a pair of Crocs I suppose I will bring. But, what kind of footwear do you all wear with capris and shorts? Sandals are the obvious choice, but I'm not too happy with any of the sandals I have and don't want to risk getting blisters from them. What does everyone else wear on their feet?

I'm glad I'm not the only 26 year old woman having trouble finding clothes! I was in a panic before our June trip to WDW-I'm about a size 14 and was having a terrible time finding any shorts that were "age appropriate" and didn't look like they'd been run over by a truck! My Darling, darling, darling husband actually went on a quest and bought me 3 nice pair of shorts for my b-day. :) I'd plan on mixing and matching favorite pieces, and do laundry halfway through the trip. A few loads of laundry is a whole lot cheaper than a new wardrobe! (A juice bottle of detergent should get you through 3-4 loads, so you don't have to buy any when you're there.) Perhaps a skort would work for your "nicer" look, and still give you the comfort of shorts. My friend lived in hers when we were in WDW in June.

For the poster who dislikes bathing suits: my sister has a suit that is a tank top and shorts that she loves. She can wear it anywhere. LL Bean has some like it, and Newport-news.com has some great swimsuits (all on sale right now) that disguise a mulitude of flaws! The mesh athletic shorts work, too, as do Umbros or soccer shorts. They dry quickly and don't weigh you down like other styles do.

Hope this helps!

For the quesion about what shoes to wear with capris and shorts, at WDW, it is always sneakers for me...at home it's usually flip flops or sandals of one variety or another. But comfort at the world is of utmost importance, as you know and so, I may look "dorky" with my n show socks and sneaks, but at least at the end of a day i can still make it to where I want to go, sans blisters! :thumbsup2

I think your Crocs will be fine with your shorts and capris. I wear mine with Crocs and I think it looks ok. Do you have any flip flops you love? I really like the Teva Mush flip flop and plan on getting a pair. That would be cute, too!

OH, to the OP, the skort I love is from NY and Co, how funny is that?? :rotfl: I'm wearing it again today. I may have to get another one before my trip... All I need is another reason to shop for my Disney trip!! :woohoo:

Sneakers, sneaker, sneakers! I wear Keds when I'm doing the prepster look, black Converse when I'm feeling slightly hip, and my 'Roos when I'm going retro. (My tops match the shoes and totally change the look of my shorts.) The shoes are comfortable and the outfit conveys I was going for an aesthetic look. Best of both worlds. I also wear my tried-and-true sandals, when the occasion fits, but I never hesitate to wear sneakers.

Shoes, like handbags and ice cream, have never let me down. Swimsuits, on the other hand.... (Although I will second the Land's End brand. And I like a two-piece tankini set because, in addition to being a different size on top than on bottom, I have a HUGE hysterectomy scar.)

I feel like my Crocs look a little funny with shorts, too, but I'm really not terribly concerned about being the height of fashion while at the World! :smooth: I am considering getting a pair of Mary Jane style Crocs before we leave -- I think they'll look cute with shorts and skirts. I have a pair of OP flip flops (they look almost just like the Teva Mush) that I took to WDW on our honeymoon, and my feet were DYING by the end of the day. I'd rather be comfy in my Crocs than worry about looking great with painful feet.

For those who haven't seen the Mary Janes yet:

They're available at Journeys stores, which I've seen all over the US.

Yes, I have the Mary Janes! They are very adorable. :lovestruc

I'm fairly new to the whole crocs thing so I don't have tons of experience, but so far I don't think the Mary Janes are quite as comfortable as the regular ones. Because they're made to fit a bit closer to your foot, I think there's more potential for blisters. They're fine for regular activities, but I don't trust them at WDW. I guess I'll just go with my regular crocs. Dorky is better than blisters!

I also like the idea of Keds or Converse. I'll have to take a quick shopping trip to see if I can find a reasonable pair.

And I forgot to mention to the OP, I have really started to get into Lands End clothes. Some of their items remind me of things my mom would wear, but others are cute and modern looking. They sometimes have really great clearances too. (In fact, I don't ever buy anything regular price from there!) I just got a tank top, a polo, and a simple tshirt for less than $30. I do find I end up returning a lot of what I buy because their sizing is strange, but you can return mail order items to any Sears store, so no need to pay return shipping if you have one near you.

Guys, I am loving the fact that I'm not alone! :lovestruc

I have enjoyed all the advice on here so much!

This weekend, I bought a pair of denim shorts, a black wrap around swim skirt thing with white stripes downt the side and a pair of black board shorts at a surf shop. I tried on an adorable pink pair but they were too small. It is so frustrating when one thing in one size fits, and then another in the same size that you like better doesn't. Oh well, I'm really happy I got what I did. Black will match more stuff anyway. I also got a blue beaded halter top ($6) and a green twill skort with an embroidered hibiscus ($15) at  Kmart.

I have tons of tops but I avoid buying bottoms, so this was really a big thing for me (I usually get frustrated shopping and buy tops and shoes instead- I own one pair of bottoms for every four tops, kind of a thing  )

For my other bottoms, I have those gauchos in brown and black and I have a couple denim capris. I also have a really cute wrap dress and a red crinkly, flowy skirt for our nicer dinners.

As far as shoes, I have cute black stacked heel mary janes for my wrap dress, and I have some flip flops (including the gold sequin 50th anniversary ones) and three pairs of Land's End Sea to Shore shoes. They're really comfy and I can wear them to water parks as well as regular parks.

I really wanted to order the crocs flip flops but I didn't realize my trip was so soon- I have 10 days! I don't think they'll come in time. :( No place around me sells them, so I'' just have to find something else around here.
