Write to Keep VMK open:
http://corporate.disney.go.com/wdig/contact_form.html

Not good with a pen??? CALL THEM!
Disney Internet Services:
(866) 993-6263

Be sure to add that if would be Willing to pay a monthly fee to continue to play the game if it would help keep it open!

I would also like an address to mail! (The more the merrier!)

The lady I talked to at guest services, was very nice. She told me that she has a note from the VMK center, To tell the people that call, to be sure to use "contact us" about the closing.

She took notes of what I said, and she said they do read her notes. If everyone wants to keep VMK on line, now is the time to bug the heck out of Disney.........

As a player of VMK for nearly a year, I am truly sad to read the news that you plan to close it on May 21st. Besides all the fun games, room building items and costumes, I met some WONDERFUL people on there. This includes the amazing Hosts on VMK. It is just painful that it will all disappear in just a month.

While you might have received some complaints over the difficult pirate quest a week ago, you should only have witnessed the countless people who tried to help one another pass through the tasks. There was such amazing teamwork during the pirates game that truly transcended the game. There was some good ol' 'Disney spirit' expressed that weekend, and I hope it wasn't shadowed by the ugly.

Please do not close VMK. If worse comes to worse, can it at least be pay to play? Just think of all the hearts you are going to be breaking. Please reach some compromise so the children AND adults (yes, there are many of us) can continue to play this lovely game that celebrates the inner spirit present at your theme parks.

I do not want my last inferno dance to end on May 21st. Please reconsider.

Regards,
Danielle

Here's what I wrote to show them how much money they have lost and will lose with all the past VMK actions:
"I am an avid player of your online game Virtual Magic Kingdom. I would like to let it be known how very upset I am over it closing. Over the past 2 years of playing, I have spent thousands of dollars buying pins, movies, and annual passes to Disneyland in an effort to gain items for my VMK character. I gladly took my family of 6 from Phoenix to Anaheim 7 times to do quests and earn cards for both my character and my 4 children's characters. Each time we opted to use Dinsey Travel so that we could get Stitch Cards for each person. We even took a special trip to Disney World to get the trill seekers quest cards. We signed up for your movie rewards program specifically to get VMK rewards for my kids. Then things started to unravel. You removed the Stitch reward cards from Disney Travel 4 months earlier than planned.
We understood that sometimes things have to end early, so we let it go. Then you removed VMK from the Disneyland. Lucky for us, our annual passes that we bought just so that we could come and do all the quests and get all the holiday cards were about to expire. We wrote in to see what was going on and we got, "VMK was intended for the 50th. It was extended, but as with all good things, it has come to and end." As unacceptable as this was, we kept playing and buying pins and movies because we liked the game and my kids were enjoying it. Granted, we did not renew our annual passes. We reasoned it was not as much our loss as yours anyway. Just about the time we had recovered and decided to take the kids to Disney World, it was announced that you would be taking VMK out of the parks. We had originally planned on buying annual passes there also and spending at least 2 weeks. But because of the announcement that you were taking VMK out of the parks, we opted for just a quick trip at the cheapest place we could get. We complained and we got the same pat answer that "it was not meant to last", but the online game would go on. Again, we were not satisfied with the answer, but again, it hurt your bottom line more than it hurt us. We got our cards, you just didn't get our annual passes or our lengthened stay. I am sure we would have spent quite a bit. Thanks for saving us some money. And again, we kept playing the game. Like I said, my entire family enjoyed it. So much so that my 5 and 6 year olds (at the time) that could barely read begged us to create a character for them on this trip, which we did. We bought pins for our son on his birthday so he could have all the items. We bought movies and went to see movies that we normally would not have to get points. Points which are now worthless to us. We didn't want anything that you had to offer other than the VMK items. Inferno was so desirable that we were doing anything we could to get enough points so that 4 of us could get it. It was discontinued before we had the chance. We will not be purchasing any other movies that we don't necessary love just to get the points. So again, your loss. At every point, I wrote and said "I would keep playing even it were to become pay to play". Instead of paying attention to how much this game was actually contributing to your bottom line, you chose to snub it. At any point, this game could have been taken pay to play and it would not have lost very many people. Because it is tied to the park, there is a nostalgic element to it. No other Disney online game has anything close to this element. I will not be playing Pirates, Penguins, or Toon Town. Neither will I be paying for my children to play these games. First of all, I don't trust you anymore. I spent thousands on a free online game to have it shut down. I AM NOT paying a monthly or yearly fee to have the same thing happen. Penguins is cheap and cheesy and not anywhere near the quality of VMK. And why would I pay to play Pirates when it has lag issues worse than VMK ever had. I would rather play World of WarCraft that doesn't have the server issues that Pirates has been plagued with. As far as I am concerned, you have shot yourself in the foot over and over again with this game. I really don't understand why you choose to ignore our requests and insist on ending this game. By your actions, or should I say inactions, you will be ending one of the best things to happen to Disney online and the only real money maker. Your park tie-ins were ingenious. So much of this game has been so fun and unexpected. It is tragic about what you are letting occur.
"

I suggest everyone do the same.

In addition, we should be writing to WDW & DL park management. This game started as a Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Online promotion. The Parks would have a vested interest in hearing our thoughts as well.

I would sent all letters to as many groups within Disney as you can.

This is a copy of the letter I just sent to the E-Mail above:

To the Walt Disney Internet News Group,

I am writing to express my sadness and displeasure at the announcement of the closing of Disney's Virtual Magic Kingdom on May 21, 2008. This online Disney experience has been a game our family could play together. It is a safe environment where we can experience some of the magic of Disney in between park visits. It was a free online game, but we spent many real dollars on movies so we could redeem movie reward points for VMK items. We spent money on pins sets to receive the virtual items that came with them. We are ready and willing to pay to play this online game so beloved to our family. Please offer us the choice to pay to play VMK and keep this wonderful game open. This family of four is ready to sign up right away.
We have been offered the chance to play other Disney online games. However, I do not want to play Toon Town or Pirates online. I want to play Virtual Magic Kingdom - even if I have to pay to play it. I live my daily life in a wheelchair. I have been ill for many years and it is very difficult for me to get out often. Disney World is a place where I can vacation worry free. VMK has become a place where I can still feel that magic and get together with my family and friends - real friends - without all of the obstacles that get in the way in my real world. No chair to get in the way, no pain so great that I can't see my friends. No illness so strong that it can stop the Disney magic that we know and love. Please do not close down our VMK community. Give the many members of the VMK community the opportunity to pay to play our favorite online game.
This is the year of a million dreams. I only have one dream on this day. Please do not close Disney's Virtual Magic Kingdom.

Thank you for your time,

 Hugs Friends

Great letters, all.

I will be sending in my own as soon as I can stop crying and get my thoughts together.

Hi,

As you all know VMK has a special place in my heart. I will never forget the joy it brought to ink as he was having his chemotherapy treatments. VMK is part of our daily lives it is like family to us.

I think this has to be approached the right way. People calling and yelling and complaining will get us no where. You must and I mean must stop think and write from the heart. E-mail and snail mail. Tell them from the heart what VMK means to you, and why you want to see it stay. There is an old saying that you can draw more bees to sugar then lemons (something like that). Being kind, caring and nice will get heard. Telling them why we love this game and how much it matters will help.

Please think before you write. I know first hand what a positive writing campaign can do.

Remember:

When you wish upon a star
makes no difference who you are
anything your heart desires
will come to you

If your heart is in your dream
no request is to extreme
when you wish upon a star
as dreamers do

Like a bolt out of the blue
Fate steps in and sees you through
when you wish upon a star
your dreams come true

We have some wishing to do and dreaming!

Bugdozer, you are absolutely right! Writing from the heart always works because the people who read them will empathize and possibly be motivated to do something. So write from your soul to save VMK! If you have to, write all the nasty things first just don't send. Then write the positive letter.

This is so true. We have to let them know how we feel about vmk. As I've posted elsewhere, VMK is not just a game or promotion they are shutting down.

VMK is a community of family and friends. They are actually destroying a community. A community of 250,000 people.

I also think that people higher up than the internet division need to know how we feel. More specifically, Bob Iger and Roy Disney.

VMK is just like the real parks.
Walt wanted a clean, safe place where families can come together and have fun. To be together and play. VMK does this. For some I have heard that VMK is the only way certain families can actually be together.
I think Walt would be upset to know that this is happening.

After all, Disneyland is never to be finished. So why does VMK have to be finished?
