Who thinks guides should send email?

Would you like to receive email from your guide?

  • yes, send me email as well as phone calls when needed

  • no, no email for me, I only want to talk on the phone or in person

That's what most of the guides are doing now, not writing anything that could be used against them.

Some of the guides receive email but call rather than responding by email.

gee.. am i the only one that doesn't have guide's email address ? :confused3

Jim, IMO, the liability risk is enormous for such a situation. Writing something down that could conflict with the POS would be disastrous. That's not to say it couldn't be done but it would require canned answers and extra training. Even the slightest ambiguity could cost them a ruling in arbitration or a court case. When professionals give an opinion by email, it's just that, an opinion, this is far different and MORE. Even DVC MS limits their email to certain people and certain topics and the risk there is dramatically less.

I acknowledge that there is risk. But risk can be managed and people can be trained. Disney is well-known for its training regimen. Lawyers and CPAs have figured out how to manage risk (admittedly some of it is prescribed for them). I suspect Disney could manage email risk as well. In the end it is a business decision Disney makes. They chose no email.

It is a BIG risk with relatively little benefit for them. IMO, when CPA's, Lawyers, even Physicians use email, the risk is FAR less than would Disney's be assuming they used appropriate precautions. Our HMO has not used patient related email even though our EMR is set up for it for similar reasons, impossible to assure security. Even for Faxes, we send a test fax, get the appropriate response with a signed security/privacy agreement before sending anything of risk. Thus we do not send faxes to those we have not taken such precautions with. Patients are all the time wanting us to mail or fax something to the school, their work, etc; no dice.

As a follow up on a few comments on another thread...
and in case DVC is looking....

How many folks would love getting emails from their guides???
:lmao:

"love" an email?
It's an eamil, not a human or even a pet!

Really I don't care. I don't buy the DISboards view that "My guide loves me" Guides want our MONEY! Disney doesn't keep them on because of their "customer love" Disney keeps them on because they SELL! So the email would just be SALES! It's not "they love us" :lmao:

Yes... this is pretty crazy... "to love" to get an email... generally I spend too much time trying NOT to get them!

I agree... email = better communication = more sales!
It's just funny, Disney has customers crying to get sold to with the help of email...
and other customers saying "Disney... I don't care if it brings you sales... just don't let your guides put anything in writing... you'll get sued!"

To me, that's a sad reflection of our world... folks think:
1. employees are not smart enough to accurately reflect company policy
2. and first thoughts go to being sued.

Though we like to think otherwise ;) we here on the DIS are a very small percentage of the DVC ownership population. As much as we like to think we are all in touch with using email, it is not necessarily a feature that the general population may find useful in their dealings with DVC.

If people are crying to buy DVC and won't because they can't use email, well that's another whole can of worms, LOL! In any event Disney calls the shots and makes the rules. We do not. :)
