As a follow up on a few comments on another thread...
and in case DVC is looking....

How many folks would love getting emails from their guides???

I, for one, would like to see my guide email me to answer questions. Sometimes, it may be a simple question that does not require a phone call, or what some people, are concerned about, is putting DVC in a position of being liable for wrong information.

But, when its 7:00 pm at night and I think of something, I send him off an email. What usually happens is that I get a call the next day with the answer.

Guides are busy and connecting by phone can sometimes take awhile so email allows for members questions to be answered quickly. Of course, if the member wants information that could be easily misunderstood, then yes, the guide should follow up with a phone call.

As explained in the other thread, emails are admissible evidence in a court. If a guide says something in a response, even innocently, like "You should really have no problem booking OKW at 7 months out" in today's society it could lead to expensive litigation. You may find it convenient for your guide to email, Disney may find one bad email could literally cost tens of thousands of dollars, even if Disney would win any suit, the legal time would be costly.

I'm moving this poll to the Mousecellaneous board, polls are basically "asking an opinion" and don't really meet the criteria of the Ops board.

I haven't heard from our guide since we sent the paperwork in. Not a congrats or a thank you or anything....

I'd like to think that although he is just a salesman, that he has a vested interest in our happiness with DVC and would follow up to see how things are.

...then again its only been 2 months and are paying the first dvc payment next month. :)

I too would like to sometimes be able to email & receive a reply via same. I understand the legal concerns re communicating via email....I wonder if there is a way DVC could cover their bases by adding some sort of disclaimer that would be included in the guide's reply email ? :confused3

I did not vote because there was not an option for me. I am sure that I am in the minority, but I seriously do not care. I contact my Guide so little, that I enjoy speaking with her directly if I have a need. E-mails for updates, like when the matching DP were being offered, would be great, but I am not upset that I do not get them. I am on the computer all day at work, so pretty much the last thing I want to do when I get home is login there. I would probably go for days before I even saw it, but I would also be glad for the gesture. Really either way is fine for me. :)

I would love to have email options but it is a very poor business move on DVC's side to allow the guides to do so. I'm surprised they haven't enforced the ban thus far.

Not for me. When I'm ready to buy more I'll call him. Otherwise, I have too much email to sort through as it is.

I voted Yes. :) I understand that DVC has to cover themselves legally, so I realise that any proper business would have to be done over the phone or in person.

Even if we just received details of their latest "deals" or a .pdf of the latest flyers would be better for us than receiving stuff by snail mail which is often out of date by the time we receive it. :guilty:

I often don't pick up the phone when out of area calls come through. I have had so many peddler calls lately I checked to see if my do not call list registration was still good. Chances are if they called, unless it came up as Disney on caller id, I would not answer. I know my new guide called to introduce herself and it said Orlando or something but not Disney.

My guide and I exchange email since it is the most convenient method of communicating. We haven't had any mis-communication, and I can get information or more points purchased much faster than playing phone tag.

Yes, my guide emails me on occassion to provide some info or invite me to visist the DTD store and will answer any general questions I have. I like to keep in touch (even though there's no way I can buy anymore points) with her. She is a fantastic guide!

E-mail is preferable. My guide is easy to talk with and very good at returning calls. But there are times when email is just more efficient.

I understand DVC is reluctant to use email and that it is likely because of concerns over potential liability and e-discovery concerns. However, it is an accepted business communication tool and not using it is a bit silly. Kind of like not driving because of the risk of an accident. Disney could easily develop an appropriate disclosure statement that is part of the signature of all emails. Accountants and lawyers use these all the time already.

Well said!:thumbsup2

Jim, IMO, the liability risk is enormous for such a situation. Writing something down that could conflict with the POS would be disastrous. That's not to say it couldn't be done but it would require canned answers and extra training. Even the slightest ambiguity could cost them a ruling in arbitration or a court case. When professionals give an opinion by email, it's just that, an opinion, this is far different and MORE. Even DVC MS limits their email to certain people and certain topics and the risk there is dramatically less.

Disney has a very active legal department.

In the DVD world they are dealing with various real estate laws including Florida's, your State, and/or your Country. Their legal department reviews everything. I know that a couple of offerings were delayed because legal had not released them yet.

It would be impossible for legal to review every email and due to problems in the past, the Guides can't always be trusted not to break in law.

can't stand playing phone tags with my guide everytime just to ask a question. they should allow emails- and whatever they don't want submissive in court, don't write it.

That's what most of the guides are doing now, not writing anything that could be used against them.

Some of the guides receive email but call rather than responding by email.
