Who takes Pilates?

If you take Pilates, how many times a week do you go? Is it the only form of exercise you do, does it give you a full body workout? I'm planning on signing up for 2 days a week (1 hour each class). I've taken it before, but it was only offered one day a week (at the Y) and I know that wasn't enough. Now they offer two days, so I thought that could work. I'm just wondering what else I'm going to need to add to my workout (spinning, weights etc).

I bought the Winsor Pilates tapes and used them at home. They give you a great work-out, but not a cardio work-out, I ran and walked for that.

You should see my 6 year old "working her power house." It's a hoot!

You mean pilates aka "pull-a-lotta-these"? I tried it a few times. Pulled muscles in places I never knew I had muscles. I'm not that flexible.

I would think you need to add cardio and then weights depending on what you want to accomplish. Ask the Pilates instructor, they are usually great for telling you what to do.

When I sign up, I do a cardio/pilates/weight combo class. I need to do that soon...

Have fun!!!!

I do a Pilates/Yoga mix at my gym (called PiYo) a few times a week for flexibility. I also weight train and cardio train (run/bike/elliptical). I try to do as much of my weight training on a stability ball vs. a bench and it has made an improvement in my core. I also notice that the stretching in the PiYo class helps with my muscle recovery.

Just as a side note, it definitely takes time to learn the moves and gain flexibility. Don't worry if in the first class you fall over or can't do the move - it happens to all of us.

Have fun with it!

I love pilates! I take a class once a week and a yoga class once a week. They really complement eachother. Pilates really works your abs. Many pilates moves are also yoga moves, and yoga really helps since you hold the positions much longer. I've been doing both for over a year now and have really changed my body shape. Like others mentioned, it is not cardio, so you can add that and some weight training. Have fun!
