Who runs the Disney Cruising FB Group?

I'm sorry but I don't feel that there are control freaks here. It is run by a Travel Agency and everyone that signs up knows that. A mod needs to run it to keep it moving smoothly and that is what people don't understand. I've never felt the need or understood people that push the rules here and then get all upset when they are penalized. It's all straight forward. A FB admin can block you for whatever reason they so desire. I see it this way. FB is run like high school and like a homeowners assoc. I've seen some groups where it's almost cult like. Here it is nice and orderly.

We can discuss where the "problem" lies all day long and probably not reach an agreement. All I was trying to say is that people need to take the information they learn from here and other sources with the understanding that it is not an official source. We share experiences, which is great and what this place is really intended for. However, what I experienced does not mean anyone else will have the same experience. We all need to be better at understanding that. It would make the lives of CMs much better and help us enjoy our vacation experience better.

The DIS and the FB group as well as similar sites all have a bad reputation among CMs. Members take information learned and create an expectation for their experience that is often unrealistic and then they blame the CM when that expectation can't be replicated for one reason or another. What sometimes has a been stated as a policy is really just a CM going the extra mile. They can do that once in awhile and it is often random, but it is done to create a unique and special experience. Someone comes on here and shares that experience, which is wonderful, but then the next person expects the same thing to happen to them. When it doesn't they get upset.

I remember an occasion where my wife and daughter were walking to a ride and were handed a fully decked out funnel cake by a CM as a random act of pixie dust. Never happened before and may never happen again but it was great! A person can visit the parks numerous times and never have something like that done for them. It's random. I've read posts from members that didn't get such a random act of pixie dust actually complain that they were told by member of the DIS this could happen and that since it didn't they were upset and complained to a CM asking what they could do to be treated special too. Really?

Moderators on the FB group and on here try to manage that by removing posts that set unrealistic expectations or complaining about things that really shouldn't be worth complaining about. That's actually a good thing.

I belong to both also. It's more difficult to solve a problem there. But on the other had they don't guess or give false information as frequently as here.

Has there been a run of false info on here? Not that I read all of the threads, but I don't remember someone openly posting false information. I have seen people, myself included say this was how it was on X date when we sailed. I have seen some rumblings of frustration with a couple of posters, but not about anyone providing false info.

You feel that you get false info and guesses HERE?
I've gotten and seen given false information. Lately I've been searching for Alaska info, but I've been on 2 Caribbean 7 day cruises. For example; when I asked a menu question I was told "everybody got the same meal each day". Which of course I know is not true from being on two 7 day cruises. I love the French food from Lumeires(can't remember spelling)
Then came a holiday discussion; where I was told the ship would not celebrate 4th of July because it was a Bahamas ship! Grr.

Cyclenut, couldn't quote you... but sometimes I also just let others correct it also because want to avoid negative comments. I've deleted several of my own comments prior to "Post Reply" it's the pill that I take for PTS or "poison text syndrome".

No control freaks here?! This place is a great source of info and I enjoy most of the back and forth but there have been some real PITA posters over the years. Know it alls who needed their opinion heard no matter what at all times.
I very much agree!:thanks:

But when that bad info was given, I'm quite sure that five posters came behind and corrected it. And that's the beauty of this place vs places run by one person. It was already said here that the fb group person gives bad info and won't let others correct him.

Someone mentioned the fact that we aren't official. Disney sites have bad info, the mom panel has atrocious info often. And no one is there to correct them. But here we can do that.

Bingo, and to everyone else who posted the same, :thanks:

Every time you correct a well meaning poster in a respectful way a fairy gets their wings. Even better if its an outdated FAQ thread *cough* shameless plug for help *cough*

The DISboards was also set up by someone not connected to Disney. And just for the record, there are real control freaks here too.

There's a difference between a fb page owner being controlling vs members being control freaks. Dis owners are hardly control freaks, looking at the long span of time and what they have tried to control.

And I've never personally seen a "firestorm" when a wrong answer is corrected. One person not feeling they are wrong isn't a firestorm. :) I think it's important enough to get right info that I'll brave it and try to be graceful if I'm the one goofing.

I think another thing to consider regarding "wrong" information is that things can change at any time and experiences may be inconsistent whether they come from here or a cast member (some cast members may be more willing to bend the rules than others). You may even get misinformation from official sources as many have mentioned because cast members may not have up to date information (for example I was told that the Magic itineraries wouldn't include a Norwegian Fjord cruise this year when doing OBB before the schedule came out) and rumors are always abound.

What you can get is information and advice from regular, experienced cruisers which can be invaluable especially if you haven't gone in a while.

We're all good. Sorry if it appeared I was picking on you. Think your the person who's given me my favorite FE gift. 2010 thanksgiving? If not, I still love you anyway since your handle(cgolf)makes me think of that gift.

Nope never cruised over thanksgiving, but I have heard.... ;)

I will have to get on the boards more often, I still have a lot to offer even though we are taking a year off from DCL, we aren't that far removed from our last trips. I definitely like this forum way better than the other options out there.
