Who remembers WDW 1982

1982, i was 6 years old and my brother woke me up screaming wake up, we're going to disney world. and i was like yeah right. but as soon as i went down the stairs, there were suitcases by the door, and my mom said we're going to disney world! this was my 1st trip and still remember the excitement of going. oh, and on the plane, they served our lunches in cardboard boxes that had a picture of magic kingdom castle on the front.....i was soooo excited! :goodvibes

DisneyMomx7 We went to MK (3 days) Sea World said:
Boy do I remember Circus World and I'm so happy to hear that someone else remembers too! My first trip to WDW was in 1977 and we stayed at a DAYS INN making trips to MK, Kennedy Space Center, Wet N' Wild and Circus World. I was 16 and we drove down with our neighbors in a station wagon (4 adults and 5 children) and at Circus World my neighbor won a GIGANTIC stuffed animal that traveled home in our already squooshed car. Boy was my Dad mad!

Does anyone have pictures or brochures, etc from '82/'83? I went there in '83 for my first birthday (I know, I'm young) and my parents took lots of pictures. They talk about me with the characters and going on Small World, etc, but unfortunately the film was ruined and we have NO pictures from the trip! :earseek: I would just like to see what the "World" looked like back then!!

I have tons.. But I have to scan them... There s one of me and my sister in front of World Of Motion with Minnie dressed in a silver with rainbow trim outfit. So futuristic for 1982!

The first time we stayed at CR was right before New Year's 1982. Pre-Epcot the parks were at capacity (and then-some) everyday between X-mas and New Year's.

One of my clearest memories are waiting in line over an hour with my sister to get on space mountin and then having it breakdown when we were about 5 rides away from getting on. She tried to leave and I told here I wasn't leaving til we got on it. We waited another 45 minutes and finally got on. My parents were about to send in the Marines for us. :teeth:

My other memory of that trip is finding out the room cost $101.00 a night :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: . Now, 24 years later I am going back to the tower and it's a lot more than that!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Yes, we were there in March with my parents and stayed at the Golf Resort. They were still celebrating the "Tencentennial" from 81 and we have a few souveniers still with that logo on it.

I have a pic I'm trying to post but for some reason I can not attach. How can I do this?

We still have our used passports and the "silver" tickets for Epcot. Our fondest memory of Disney happened in early December 1982 as DW and I sat on the beach at the Poly and listened to an Eddie Rabbit concert being taped for a WDW Christmas special late the last evening of our visit. One of the most truely magical moments we have experienced during any of our numerous trips to the World.

Do I remember!! It was the first WDW trip as a married couple for DH and me. We married in December 1981. We brought DS,6, ( from my first marriage),my little brother,12, and my brother 18, and his friend, also 18. We travelled from Louisiana in a motor home. DH,DS,LB, and I stayed at the Golf Resort. 18 year olds stayed in the motorhome. It was a great trip. We saw VIPS getting on Monorail to EPCOT-it wasn't open to the public yet.We would walk to the Polynesian to get on the monorail. It was quite a long walk but fun as we saw wildlife on the way.

I bought 2 videos tapes last year from a yard sale One is the Magic Kingdom and one is Epcot center. They were definately filmed in the 80's. The Magic Kingdom was called the vacation Kingdom. It's pretty neat they are both 21 minutes long. it's amazing to see how it's changed.

I remember going with my school to Orlando for 5 days. Im from New York, so at the time, it was a major trip! I was 13 years old, and one nice memory I have is being able to buy cool novelties in the stores on Main Street USA other than Disney Merchandise.

Thats the one qualm I have about the Disney Parks today. I think they should go back to the way it was, when you could buy Disney items as well as non-Disney novelties. It has become too much of a Marketing Machine.

It would be cool to have some items from the turn-of-the-century era, that you could in all of those stores.

I think thats what Walt would have wanted!!!

1982 was our very first trip!!!! It was very magical and we were hooked. Yes, we had a std view at the Poly for ~ $95, as I recall. We rented a car and never drove it once. The package we had was for 4 nights, and we added on one more night (and really had to sweat it out because nothing was available until the last day) ----- that was the beginning of a pattern that has been repeated a few times.

I was working as a Paramedic in Fort Lauderdale in March of 1983 and took a child (and his Mom) for the "MAKE-A-WISH FOUNDATION" to EPCOT for two days, this was his last wish. He had to be transported via ambulance beacuse he needed to have 24 hour medical care (provided by his nurse). Being a NATIVE Floridian and just having recently moved to So Florida from the Orlando area I was very excited about this trip....it was WONDERFUL!!! I loved EPCOT and seeing it through this child's eyes, well let's just say I'll NEVER forget it or him! Now everytime I see the MAGNIFICENT entrance to EPCOT, I always see his smiling face as well!

It was our second trip to Disney. I was 17 and I remember riding Space Mt. with my older brother for the first time. He told me to scream if I got scared. And I did! Epcot was new, and not all the countries were finished, if I recall. Now it's 40 year old me riding TOT and RnR with my 13 year old DS. DS 15 and DH love DW, too, but they're not the thrill-seekers that my DS 13 and I are. :rotfl:

Your post brought tears to my eyes!!! :grouphug:
