Who really uses the kitchen in the 1BR villa?

lol...just back from a quick stay in a 1 bedroom at BWV and while it was nice to have the kitchen, I made the determination - I am NOT cooking while on vacation! :rotfl: don't get me wrong, it's great for coffee, nacho's & cheese, some cold soda....but real cooking??!! too many years of cooking for the kids and spouse I guess.... if I cook it I have to clean it...yuck!! I'm on vacation!

but yes, I did run the dishwashewr with all the cups we used ...just couldn't leave dirty dishes for mousekeeping....

There is just me and my wife so we only stay in studios, but we make good use of the microwave and fridge. I'm sure if we stayed in a 1bdr, we'd use the kitchen a couple times.

I do. I do.

We recently stayed in a Studio at BWV and boy did we miss the one bedroom (especially at OKW).

We go to Publix and buy perishable foods (I pack non-perishables with me) and have at least breakfast each morning, pb and j sandwiches, maybe a frozen pizza heated up and lots of hot tea. Lunches would be a sandwich of some type or bags of salad. I've only cooked a few dinners, but the oven is fantastic to make bacon and stuff.

Love the one bedroom - well worth it.

studios/ 1 or 2 bedroom - always use the kitchen....

I have allergies so eating out - while possible at WDW - is a pain....

If I cook it I know what is in it!!!!

We use the kitchen every morning for breakfast also. The girls will work on homework while I make breakfast for us. It is nice to be able to get ready and not rush out the door to worry about getting to an adr on time and waiting etc. So we are ready and go right to the park openings.

It is also nice for later in the day when we come back at night my girls love to have cereal as a snack so it works quite well for us. And yes I have used the dining plan for the rest of the meals

The kitchen just makes if feel so much more like home and so much more spacious.

we use the kitchen all the time. That was the main reason we bought at dvc was for a room with a kitchen. My son has alot of food allergies and it's just easier to bring his food then to find it out at a retaurant without worrying about an allergic reaction. We also are able to eat exactly when we want and dont waste any time going to and from restaurants everyday.

We use it for breakfast, at least one dinner and usually a couple of lunches. it's great after a morning in the parks to return to the room, make some sandwiches and just relax in the AC for a bit before going back.

I don't cook much at home, however, for the past two years we have enjoyed cooking Xmas dinner in the villas...feels like being at home

I like having a kitchen. Several in our family have food allergies so its great when we can use a kitchen.
I am very glad that DVC is a home away from home. We can eat out or use the kitchen. Great to have options!

I make coffee in the kitchen. Sometimes we also do a bit more but for the most part we've eaten out.

Love it!

As new parents we found on our last trip the kitchen to be a must. We were in our villa a lot more than we had even initially thought for naps and breaks from the stroller and the heat so we really enjoyed the convenience of being able to heat up leftovers. We didn't cook much but I know on our next trip I'll probably cook even more but that's fine by me. I don't cook a lot but I'd rather cook at Disney!

We don't do the dining plan. We have never spent $152 on food in one day, and don't really see doing so in the near future. We always have breakfast in the kitchen and even have 1 or 2 simple dinners there as well. Sometimes we order pizza and make a salad to go with it. We also frequent the water parks and always take a picnic lunch, which we make in the kitchen.

I should point out that we are usually at the resort for at least 14 days each trip and do tire of eating out all the time. The kitchen gives us a nice break from the restaurants. If our trips were a week or less, we probably wouldn't use it as much.

We've been tossed up about adding the dining plan during our next trip while staying in a 2 BR (4 adults and 2 small kids). I'm glad to see this opinion and I think we're going to go the same route. We'll use the kitchen for breakfasts and simple lunches (sandwiches, pizzas, chicken nuggets, hot dogs) when we take a mid-day break from the park, then eat supper in the World. I also think we'll add-on the DDE to our AP's and save an extra 20% off the 6 of us for our nightly meal.

Great that with DVC and the kitchens you have these options!

on our last trip i cooked 3 out of 5 nights. well 'cooked' might not be the best word...frozen pizza...grilled cheese, noodles etc.

my kids are 4 and 1 and going out every night isn't always feasible. someone inevitably will not nap and get into meltdown mode right as the dinner hour approaches.

i also use the kitchen for quick breakfast (frozen waffles for the kids) and to make pb&j sandwiches. i pack them into my softsided cooler and take them into the parks for the kids. (what will i do when i don't have a stroller anymore to carry it?!!! )

We like the added space and homey feeling of a kitchen. Also, our kids like to eat in a couple of nights. I personally think the feeding frenzy of the Dining Plan is going to get old after a while. Planning the next meal seems to have taken precedence over having fun!?!
While you don't need soap for the kitchen, I would highly recommend some scented bath oil, candles and a bottle of champagne for the jacuzzi.

We bought a camping trailer a few years ago but I made my DH sell it because it never felt like a vaca. to me. I had to prepare 3 meals a day & even if they didn't involve cooking, I still had to set everything up, put it all away & clean up. June will be our first time going as owners, but we've rented at BW before & even in the regular rooms we have done simple breakfasts like pastries & fruit and we keep snacks & drinks on hand, but other than that...no way! I know some people don't find cooking & cleaning a chore, but I have 2 children & a DH that works a lot of hours, so I do enough cooking & cleaning at home. I go on vaca. to DW to let someone else do all the preparing, waiting-on, and cleaning up after! :thumbsup2

With a young child, having a kitchen is great! We often stay 5 or 6 days, and we eat most breakfasts, some lunches, and at least two dinners in. We often grill steaks and have a Caesar salad, or do a pasta meal.

We were just on a 10 day vacation where we ate out every meal, and I found it tiring.

We usually just use it for breakfast too, so we can lounge in our PJs a bit too.

Lasy January we did use it one night over Marathon Weekend to entertain our big group of our travelling companion. We got a bunch of rotisserie chickens and side dishes, and it was a lot of fun.

Ok true confessions time. Once when we rented points at BWV, we saw a family bring down a frozen bucket of margaritas and the mom and dad enjoyed them in plastic ware in the hot tub. That may be one of the images that sold me on DVC, I do know that since then I have bought "Tub o' Margaritas" and "Tub o' Pina Coladas" for vacations to freeze in the freezer. I am guilty of cooking Christmas dinner in the cabins at FW, but in DVC I resort to bagged salad, hamburger helper (which DS17 requests), frozen lasagna, pasta with jar sauce and (formerly frozen) meatballs. I'm not usually home to cook at dinner time, so it's almost fun for me. I too stock up on nacho fixings, frozen pizza for DS, and sandwich fixings. I love to get pimento cheese from Publix, can't get that at home.

We are flying in to Orlando and will not have access to a car. What is the best way to get groceries?

Although we love hitting the restaurants, we use our kitchen all of the time.

Breakfast almost daily, many lunches, some dinners. Don't forget firing up that 10pm pizza...or eating entire containers of ice cream. Hey it's vacation right? :thumbsup2 If it can be prepared or cooked, waist line expansion is fine by me. Fire up the pots. :stir:
