So i finally got Dell to take back the horrible system they sent me :) Now I need to shop for a new one. Anyone got advice for me: Sony, Gateway, or Hp........did i forget any other PC makers?

I was going to say Dell - we've been very happy with the computers we've gotten from them.

Well I can only tell you my experience with a Gateway Computer has been great! I have had no ( I mean zero) problems with my EV500...I purchased the cheapest computer Gateway had at the time,I think around 4 or 5 years ago,and it's been working great ever since! I think it cost me $500 which included shipping/handling.It was delivered to my doorstep and I haven't looked back since.....
I'm a happy camper.
Good Luck,
Debbie

We've been happy with our Dells, too.

I would say steer clear of HP - always been happy with their printers but our desktop is a POS.

Us too, Dell has been great for at home and work. DH has had 2 HP's and has had problems with both, so I would stay away from them. I would say maybe you should look in to having one custom built, that way you are sure to get all the components that you really want.

I just ordered a refurbished Dell computer to replace my aging homebuilt computer. Perhaps I'll get yours.

I was going to say Dell too.

My problems with Dell began from the moment i opened the box. Then getting through to there techs is no easy task. None of them are in the US and have a hard time understanding things. Anways I was looking at either Gateway or Sony. Last resort getting one built by a local PC store

I just ordered a new Dell Dimension 3000 to replace my 5 1/2 yo aging Gateway.
Hope I made the right decision. My Dell inspiron 9100 is a year old and I am happy with it.

What kind of Dell did you have? I just got one at work, Pentium 4, 3000, with Windows XP Professional.

My son just bought a Sony VIAO, paid around $1,400 but had rebates that brought the price to $900.

I learned a new word or short cut POS :rotfl2: I guess we have to get our laughs somewhere.

Love my HP. Don't think I would buy from Dell. Too many people I know have had trouble. Some, a little, but some, a lot! My HP purrs like a kitten.

I had a Dell 8400 3.0 Ghz really nice almost top of the line. HOw did you get Sony rebates? i am leaning towards sony for the pc. Also anyone know about FSB is it really that important. I could really save $$ if i went with 533FSB instead of 800FSB

Yourself. ;) We built ours about 18 months ago for a great price and it was fairly easy. We had a bit of trouble with one of our harddrives and customer service, but since then, we haven't had a single problem. I've never had a computer go this long without a problem.

We have a Dell laptop which has been OK. Ran screaming away from Gateway.

I have a Dell laptop that I bought in March. I have had nothing but problems with it. I had to have the hard drive replaced, that failed, got a 2nd new hard drive. And now I can't get the screen resolution to the right spot and the technicians in India have no idea how to fix the problem.

Our Desktop is a Gateway and it has had 0 problems. I'll stick to Gateway in the future, their new laptops look amazing.

We have 4 Dell notebooks and love them. Had a Sony Vaio before that was horrible. I think they are pretty much all interchangable. If you're lucky you'll get a good one. I don't really think it's much of a function of the name on it.

I was going to say Dell, but you had that, LOL. I currently have 3 that I use, 2 desktops, one laptop. And I have had 3 previous to these, total six, all fine. Good luck.
