This is inspired by the "Why can't Parents Be Happy for Their Kids" thead.

Anyone out there simply adore their in-laws and couldn't imagine life w/out them?

I talk to my MIL just about everyday via telephone. Sometimes it is just to check in and see how she and FIL are doing, other times we chat/gossip for an hour or so. FIL always picks up to say hello. MIL went to WDW w/us in October 2001 and even rode Space Mountain (she is in her 70's!). We had a fabulous time. A really neat lady.

They are just lovely people all around.

Is this weird :-)

I absolutely adore my MIL we not only talk but visit on a daily basis (she is my next door neighbor). She is by far my favorite shopping partner!! (lol always important). She is a lot like me, and I honestly feel like she is my mom not mom in law. I think a lot of the reason we are so close is my mom lives 2000 miles away.

I love my MIL. I started dating my husband less than a year after my mom died. I was 15 then and am now 43. She has always treated me with love and respect.

Had to reply here because I really love my inlaws! We always travel together, we live near each other, and we talk every day. I know my mom gets a little jealous sometimes eventhough we too are very close. But she also was close with her MIL and she thinks its great that we get along so well.
My MIL recently survived a brain anurysm and subsequent surgery and I feel so lucky and happy to have her in my and my families lives.

I'll have to say that I have pretty good in-laws! I enjoy their company and they treat me very well!

They live over 600 miles away. I have a great relationship with them. I give them credit for not meddling with us. Sometimes it's obvious when they're refraining from being aggressive with advice, but I respect that. They have their opinions about things, but they have been great about letting Chris and I make our own decisions.

Mine are great. It helps that my husband's brother married a total loser woman, so she makes me look even better than I already am!;)

I see my inlaws more than my own family....:earseek:
I don't know what I would do without them...:D

I LOVE my inlaws - every one of them. :) They have always treated me so well, as if I was one of their own. My relationship with them is wonderful and I don't know what I would do without them. :)

I guess I'm lucky here, in that I don't have any inlaws as such......except for a BIL & SIL. No MIL or FIL.

Never knew my FIL & MIL wasn't lucid when I met hubby, she'd had a stroke & was paralised down one side & had lost her speech.

Funny thing was tho.............she hung on till we had our first child then she quietly slipped away.

I love my in-laws! Saw the whole gang tonight. There are 13 of us when we all get together. They would do anything I asked them to do.

I love my ex FIL and ex Step Mother In Law and that whole side of the family.

Yes! I'm very lucky to have the in-laws that I have. :D

My inlaws are wonderful people. I have no idea what I would have done the past 3 years without my MIL. Long story short we now live in their back yard (this was at my suggestion to try and get the land behind them). I have no regrets (although MY mom said what a huge mistake I was making moving behind them).

I love my in-laws. They have always been great to us. They welcomed my mom into their family and always included her in all holidays. I will never forget the extra love and support they gave her when she was dying. They are special people.

Having said that, however, I don't think I can ever travel with them again. We've done it enough times to know it just doesn't work. They are the types that want us to plan everything (since we are the Disney experts) but then constantly question why we are doing things.

That's the wonderful thing about owning DVC points - we can send them down to Vero for a week and they are very happy without us.

We do get together with them every couple of weeks and DH talks to them a couple of times a week. Just don't think we'll ever travel with them again.

I loved my MIL dearly, but sadly she passed away 4 years ago after a long, courageous battle with ALS.

I love my FIL, but don't see him as often anymore as he remarried and doesn't live as close.

When I first started dating DH he and his family were Mennonites. The preachers at his church actually tried to get him to break up with me because I was "worldly." Never once (even though he took me to church a couple of times, but I was never made to feel "welcome" there) did they ever try to get me to convert to their religion, just wanted him to stop seeing me.

His parents, on the other hand, welcomed me from the start. Never once made me feel I was unwelcome in their home, or that they didn't want DH to date me.

We started our married life just around the corner from them, about a half-mile away, but within 2 years we moved into their home, and they built a smaller home next door and we lived side-by-side many years. No problems whatsoever. No interferrance.
Only gave advice if they were asked.

I do miss MIL very, very much. She was one special lady.

I consider myself lucky with my In-Laws considering stories I've heard. However, they are quirky and totally opposite from my family. It's hard at times, but I'm sure it could be worse. DH's parents are a generation older than my parents and what I would describe as "old school", don't ask don't tell philosophy which is hard for me to understand at times. Despite there quirks, yeah, I love them.

My MIL and FIL are the most wonderful people. My parents have been gone for a long time, but fate saw fit to give me new ones when I married my husband 23 years ago. I love them dearly. :D
