Dark side??? Who is that???

How can you not like Michigan State? Although we do have our differences, I think the two teams that we can share a mutual dislike for is Notre Dame and Ohio State. Agree on that one?

How can I not like Michigan State? Well, for me, it goes back to the 1990 UM-MSU football game, where MSU defender Eddie Brown tripped Desmond Howard in the endzone on a 2 point conversion attempt. Or maybe it was in the 2001 game, where the MSU timekeeper stopped the clock early, giving MSU 1 last play, which they used to beat UM. Or maybe it's former MSU Hockey Coach Ron Mason, with his permanent suntan, and the spartan fans who called me a liar for daring to suggest that East Lansing, much like Ann Arbor, is pretty cloudy in the winter.

Wait...do you mean when Desmond Howard fell over his own feet and cost Michigan the game? And cmon, we all know that there really was a second left on the clock when it was stopped. I just think you all were upset that scUM's defense collapsed. What's it like knowing that you had to pay players to come to your school?

Ok, if you want to talk about paying basketball players to play (I'm not a big basketball fan), how about if we talk about the MSU student body rioting every time they win or lose an NCAA basketball game?

(BTW, the guy who tripped Desmond Howard admitted that he tripped him intentionally ... an interview with him in 1999 included this quote)

"I saw six-foot, five (inch) Elvis Grbac back there about to dump it in there for an easy two points and I'm thinking there's no way I can go back to East Lansing if I give up this play," Brown said. "So I tripped him and I tried to act like I tripped and fell."

I would much rather take a couple of riots versus knowing the only reason I had players coming to my school was that they were being paid.

What about Brian Griese relieving himself in a public bar? Or an alumni, aka Weber, lying to a jury? The list goes on....

Brian Griese, at least while he was at Michigan, got into a bar fight, but never urinated on the building.

And, Chris Webber never graduated, therefore, he's not an alumnus.

And, actually, no, the list doesn't go on. The NCAA infractions database shows 2 major infractions for Michigan ... one for the basketball team fairly recently, due to Mr. Webber, and one for some recruiting violations by the Baseball coach in the late 1980's. The MSU list shows 5 major infractions, 2 of which came in the 1990's.

If you're going to start slinging mud, just remember 2 can play at this game ... how about Jeff Smoker being suspended from the team for a drug problem, or Dawan Moss trying to drive off, while a police officer was leaning into the car, trying to get the keys away from a rather drunk Moss, dragging the officer for several feet?

As a hockey fan, I'm glad that the hockey programs at both MSU and UM are clean ... it makes the rivalry all that much better. Too bad MSU seems cursed, and hasn't scored a goal in an NCAA playoff game in 3 years

It is a good thing that both State and UM have a great hockey program. The rivalry there is huge. Too bad the new State coach is nowhere near as good as Ron Mason. It seems like no matter what, State always chokes. By the way...do you ever go to the GLI around Christmas time???

It's difficult to follow in the footsteps of a legend. Comley's a good coach. The team's had a few down years, but they'll be back. We Michigan fans are probably going to have to deal with the same thing when Red Berenson retires (probably not too far off in the distance).

As far as the GLI, yes, I go, when I can ... I think I've made it to 2 out of the last 4. (tournament or not, I try to make it to as many hockey games as I can in a given season ... my friends tease me that I spend more money on going to hockey games than I do on clothes and food put together ... they may be right)

That's awesome. Did you ever see the video when State and UM had that huge fight at the end of the hockey game? Man, the rivalry between both school is incredibly intense. BTW, do you go to UM and live in Syracuse or just root for the weasels??

Yes, I've seen the video of that brawl, many times ... Not often will you see a fight break out during the handshake line.

I go to school at Syracuse University ... I grew up in Ann Arbor, and lived there my whole life. I was a Michigan fan long before I even knew where Syracuse was.

I wish I could have been able to go. I live in Arizona so it would have been kinda hard. It looked amazing though. That truly is an incredible thing. Another thing I wish I would have been able to go to was the BasketBowl. My uncle was there and he said it was great. How often to you go to games at the Big House??

I didn't go to the BasketBowl ...

I've been going to games at the Big House starting when I was 2 weeks old. Only made it to 3 or 4 in the past few years though ... in HS, I think I went to every home game.

I have several family members who live in MI.

Grandparents and DA and DU live in Lambertville near Toledo, OH (where I'm originally from)

Aunt lives in Eaton Rapids near Lansing

Another Uncle who lives near Ann Arbor

And finally I have friends who live in Eaton Rapids too but work in Lansing

What do you think of Syracuse going with the new logo and nickname? I think the "Orange" is the stupidest thing. Although, I do look forward to see what kind of new jerseys Nike created for their teams.

i live in monroe which is like 10 mins north of toledo. I'm a HUGE UM fan. I plan to go to college there.

Central gets to go down to east Lansing this year on Sept. 11. The games always seem to be packed and ya never know what might happen. I have gone to tons of MSU games but I hope Central can pull out the victory.
