Ya know, in 1999, I used to tell people that it meant that all my zippers were Y2K complaint, and weren't going to stop working at the turn of the century!

YKK is a Japanese company, and yes, they are huge. The other major vendor is Coats and Clark, but they mainly sell loose zippers (the kind you purchase at the fabric store), whereas YKK sells both to retailers and manufacturers.

The Old Navy shorts I'm wearing right now don't have a YKK zipper - it actually says Old Navy (and I hope you all appreciate that info, because let me tell you, my eyes aren't that great, and it wasn't easy reading those tiny little words upside down and just south of my belly button!)
