vomit in a restaurant? At work the other day, an elderly woman got sick at her table. Vomited into her plate and onto the table, and down her shirt. She was probably 70-80 years old. Her daughter, probably 50-ish, was with her. The daughter wanted someone to clean up the table AND her mother. My boss said she would clean up the table, but it was HER (the daughter's) responsibility to clean up her own mother.

What do you think? Who's responsibility was it?

IMHO if I took my elderly mother to a restaurant and she got sick, it would be MY responsibility to clean her up, and the table/floor too. I would ask for paper towels, a rag and some bleach water or something to clean things up. I wouldn't think it would be anyone else's responsibility.

Am I wrong?

Unfortunately, this has happened to my son.

And I cleaned up the whole mess. I would never ask anyone else to do it. Of course, the restaurant staff had to clean the floor--it couldn't be done with napkins and needed a bucket and mop.

If either my 71 yr. old parents or ds10 threw up at a restaurant, I'd absolutely clean it up. Just give me the paper towels, bleach or anything else I'd need, and I'll take care of it.

Looks like a lot of DISers have worked in restaurants earlier in their lives!! ;)

I agree, if our child or Grandmother became ill, we would clean it all up. At most, the restaurant should clean the table and floor. No way should have be required to even touch a restaurant guest, except in matters of life and death, like in a choking situation...

Unless my mother was so sick that I had to take her straight to the hospital right then, I would clean up both her and the table. I couldn't imagine not doing so.

Since there are most likely health regulations in place about clean up and disposal of human waste the rest. should clean up floor area and take care of everything on the table. I would be responsible for cleaning up my family member...not the business! I also would be volunteering to help clean up the rest of the mess, or helping them clean it up as best as I could without being in the way.

To the OP, could you please edit the title to warn people that the content is kinda gross. Some of us are eating breakfast while DISing.
