I admit I have become addicted to podcasts ever since I got my first ipod for Christmas. :) And I love all the Disney podcasts! There are a lot of good ones out there. But, I have to say I really feel the DIS should have its OWN podcast!!! :thumbsup2 There are tons of experts here, we've got an endless amount of info on the boards that could be discussed, not to mention we usually hear about breaking news before anyone else. ;)

So who thinks this is a good idea????? :woohoo:

Sorry, not familiar with podcasts. Sounds like something from a scary movie. :rotfl:

The problem with this idea comes down to taking the 'tons of experts' and giving them a single voice - you need one person to be the leader and the voice of the podcast.

That person or small committee would need to be able to decide on what to put on the show, from the thousands of posts on here each day.

It also takes a fair amount of time to create a show.

My favorite podcasts have a good focus, a good host or hosts, decent sound quality and music, and fairly up to date information.

My two favorite Disney podcasts are Inside the Magic and WDWToday.

I think that would be a great idea, however as a previos poster stated, I think that it would be really hard to narrow all of the topics to one podcast each week or so. I love some of the podcasts that are out there about Disney already too!!

I agree, it's no small undertaking, but I think it could definitely be done. A group of people would have to be "in charge" of deciding on content and format, that's for sure. And you'd need hosts of course, and a group of people behind the scenes working on editing and audio quality, etc. It would definitely take a dedicated group.

One of my favorite podcasts is "Pottercast" which is done by the Harry Potter fansite The Leaky Cauldron. Basically they have three hosts and then the show is divided into segments. News first, then a moderator chat, then a fan interview, then an interview with someone related to the books or movies, and then sometimes they'll discuss mail they've received or certain topics from the forums, etc. They usually follow this same format each week.

So if you looked at it from a DIS view you could start with news... this could be anything from new rides opening, a new restaurant, a new discount code, etc. Then you could have a moderator chat that would change from week to week discussing a topic from the forums, and then you could have an interview with a forum member each week, etc. I'm just typing off the top of my head, but you get what I'm saying.

Maybe if a moderator reads this thread they could pass it on to the powers that be to see if they might be interested! :thumbsup2

Erika~ Could you explain in simple terms what a podcast is for those of us that are technically challenged  Thank you.

Podcasts are audio, and sometimes video, programs you can download onto your computer or your ipod. You can subscribe to them through itunes and automatically download new episodes each week. They cover many different topics... Disney World is a popular one, also TV shows like Lost, news shows like CNN, fansites, books, movies, health and fitness, sports, you name it!! For a better explanation check out these sites:

They just started becoming popular in the last year or so and are growing more so everyday. :thumbsup2 The benefit is not only sharing and discussing information but also many companies have realized its a HUGE opportunity for advertising.

Yes, and they are oh so adicting! I am still trying to catch up with all of the back episodes on all of the Podcasts that I have subscribed to.

I also love Let's Talk About Disney and Mouse Guest Weekly

Trapped on Vacation is another funny one but, is not family friendly!

Yes, if you get Itunes or directly download it off the website its free.

I think that would be a fabulous idea! I have many Disney Podcasts on my iPod and I think it would be great to have one for my favorite Disney website. Plus, to hear about topics that REAL Disney fans talk about, it would be great and entertaining to listen to. They could take callers, mention users, ect. It would be alot of fun. Also, us Dissers could prepare stories or segments for them to read. It would be a whole new Dis experience! :cool1:

Two more good ones that I didn't see mentioned are MouseTunes (http://www.mousetunes.com) and Window To the Magic (http://www.windowtothemagic.com).

Window to the Magic is Disneyland based, but Paul's ride throughs, music, and "Where in the Park" games make you feel like you're in the park with him...you can listen to them over and over. Helps bridge the gap between trips. :)

So y'all are saying it's something you can download without an ipod?
Most of them, probably all of them, are in mp3 format and can be downloaded to your computer and listened to there. iPod purchase not necessary. ;)

I got the video Ipod for Christmas and have really been enjoying Podcasts. One of the first ones that I found is "Beyond Main Street". It's new and low budget, but I enjoy the hosts! :thumbsup2

All you have to do is install itunes, which is free, and the podcasts are mostly all free as well. :) Right now I am subscribed to the WDW official podcast which is cool. They had a neat promo video of Expedition Everest. :)

Probably the coolest thing is downloading tv shows like Lost and Desperate Housewives. You can pay for one show or buy the whole season. We got a few of them on my ipod for our trip to Boston last month and it made the plane ride go by so fast. :thumbsup2

I really like the idea of having stories and topics from actual real DIS members instead of just always listening to these podcasts that are Disney employees or travel agents, etc. I think we have a lot of offer the world here on the DIS and I bet we'd blow the other disney podcasts out of the water!!! :goodvibes

Never enough Disney Podcasts!! Or any podcasts for that matter.

I'm a big talk radio buff and when my DH gave me an iPod for my B-day, I went crazy on all the content out there. I found scrapbooking podcasts too (I'm a big scrapbooker).

Love technology these days!

I have to say that wdwtoday.com has a good Podcast. They usually run approximately 20 minutes long and are full of information, questions and answers. There is no advertising, just good information about WDW and what is currently going on. There are a couple of DISers I recognize who host the show.
