Who Is Happy To Be Home This Weekend?

I'm traveling at Thanksgiving for the first time. I was prepared for Logan Airport to be a nightmare, but it wasn’t. If I hadn't forgotten to take my tablet out so my bag had to go through again, we would have breezed through. We got here early enough that it's about 2 hours until we board.

So happy to be home, spending Thanksgiving weekend with my family and chatting about our February vacation to Orlando…after the Christmas crowds are gone ☺️

We are traveling about 20 minutes tomorrow thankfully. I am enjoying sitting on the couch tonight and not being out in the mess. The traffic home this evening was actually pretty decent.

Staying home this Thanksgiving too. I currently have a house full of my son’s friends who are all hanging out at my house because they go to different schools and are back home for the week. I need to start getting some of the sides cooking for tomorrow instead of posting on the DIS but I’m procrastinating as it’s been a busy week.

Tomorrow it will be just the 5 of us for Thanksgiving dinner, here at home, and I'm happy about that. I'm focusing on not stressing, not feeling like I HAVE to make all sorts of dishes and sides to make this a festive holiday meal. I really can't believe that it's the night before and I haven't started anything yet, but the food is here, DH and SIL have said they'll get the dining room straightened out enough for a sit-down family meal, and DD has promised to help with sides and desserts.

Back when DH was in grad school, we would always go to his family in Ohio for Thanksgiving. He is one of 7 siblings, many with kids, and it wasn't uncommon for Thanksgiving dinner to have 30 or so in attendance. It was always a fun, wonderful weekend, giving us the chance to see relatives we only saw maybe once a year. What I didn't enjoy was the drive. I love to drive, don't mind road trips, and this one was about 7 hours each way. However, the route was Syracuse-Buffalo-Erie-Cleveland, and a bit further. That is NOT a trip to make in late November; sometimes the weather made driving downright treacherous! As much as I miss his family and those wonderful, crazy weekends, and wish they'd happen again, I am happy to be staying home this year.

The only Thanksgiving we stayed home was when I was pregnant with dd(now 22). She was due 2 weeks later.
Now it just depends on WHERE we’re driving. On the road right now for a 2 1/2hr. ride. We’re visiting the closer relatives this year. It’s not bad on Thanksgiving morning. But when we travel further and have to leave the day before…😵‍💫
And we just expect traffic on Sat. for the ride home.
