We are...which is definitely an improvement over my MIL cooking (as I've said before, she doesn't believe in "flavor"). It's also better than having the four of us (my, DH, MIL and BIL) sitting in MIL's dark depressing hovel of a condo, staring at each other while some Discovery Channel marathon of Dirty Jobs plays in the background. Or while DH's gandfather watches a John Wayne movie, all while squinting to see each other with the ONE lamp MIL allows to be on...and it's on a dimmer.

SO...we get to go out this year! We've gone out for T-day before and it's been nice. We've done Cracker Barrel a few times and I've got my fingers crossed for it, but for whatever reason MIL has decided it's to be Golden Corral (God have mercy on our souls). But still...better than the depressing condo!

I'm hoping we can go out for Christmas Dinner too.

So for all of us heading out for Thanksgiving Dinner, tell us where you're going and why you like (or don't) eating dinner out.

Golden Corral?

Have a Happy Thanksgiving! Maybe next year you can take over the cooking duties.

My wife and her mother are extraordinary cooks, and they love their craft. Their meals are far better than almost every meal that I have eaten at restaurants, and I have eaten at some of the best restaurants in America. So, we eat in a lot. Today is at my MiL's home. :goodvibes

That said, as a single man, I ate out a lot. :lmao:

Enjoy your day - no matter where you spend it or who you spend it with, find a way to savor it. :)

:lmao::rotfl2::rotfl: I really don't feel like cooking today-- we already had Thanksgiving with my inlaws last weekend and I cooked. But younger DD feels that we have to also have a Turkey meal on the actual day. I saw your thread title and thought "that is a great idea,-- we should just go out. She is so lucky! Wonder where we can go?"

Then I saw you are going to Golden Corral! I guess that negates the lucky part. But glad you get something better than the usual. Can you and DH get away and go to a movie later? Or tell them you found a great sale and need to go out and buy their Christmas present?

We go out!
Not because I can't cook but because I don't want to. I do have a small arm of the family that lives nearby but they do their thing which usually involves them being out of town and we do ours, we all get together for Christmas Eve.

We started a new tradition with another family that we are close to several years ago. We head off to a local hotel that has a beautiful pool in an amazing atrium setting. The same hotel also has a delish buffet.
We get the kids their own room separate from the parents.
We take cocktails and appetizers. We have a few drinks, snacks and hang out at the pool, then head down to dinner, then back to the pool with drinks in hand. When the pool closes we usually head to the arcade and play for an hour or 2, then the kids head to their room where they rent a movie and we adults visit etc.
The next morning we all meet for breakfast, more swimming and then we head home. We love this tradition.
This year our friends cannot join us as they are off to visit a dying family member out of town. We are still headed to the hotel.

This year we will be joined by one of DS's roomies. He lives away at college but the Univ. is here in the same town we live in. One of his roomies who is not from here is not heading home for the weekend so I invited her to join us and she accepted. This year the "kids" with the exception of DD are old enough to join us for cocktails, we leave in a few hours!

:confused:I wish we were. We're cramming into my brothers tiny house with not enough seats for everyone to even sit at the same time. I'm taking my folding chairs and my sister just laughs hysterically every time we talk about it. glad she still has a sense of humor.

We're going to Golden Corral! :teeth: I don't know about yours, but ours is really nice and the food is great.

We are this year, it will be the first time going out to dinner for Thanksgiving. We are trying Mimi's Cafe.

We are! We have gone out every year since my grandma died. It's just not the same. We started a new tradtion. We've done Mimi's Cafe, Claim Jumper, Goofy's Kitchen @ Disneyland Hotel and this year we are going to the casino!! Pala Casino has a HUGE buffet so we are hitting up their Thanksgiving Buffet today! Should be fun and hopfully I can win some extra Black Friday money!!

Just got back. Oh the humanity. Let's just say that dinner at the GC was WAY more entertaining than sittin gat MIL's. The people...my God...the PEOPLE!

It was a 20 minute long line just to get to the register to pay (you pay first, get your drink, then get a table). The food lines were beyond ridiculous, snaking all throughout the restaurant. MIL wound up dropping an entire plate of food on the floor after getting hip checked by some loon who was too excited to wait her turn. I had a kid actual take a ladle out of hands before I'd finished putting the gravy on my mashed potatoes.

And the conversations going on around us. FASCINATING!

So, DH suggested we go out tonight by ourselves to either a movie or to dinner. Real dinner. Or we can stay home, rent a movie off our instant Netflix queue, bake some decadent dessert and snuggle.

Ah...decisions decisions...

We've gone out for a couple of years now. Our small family and grandsons. Our son lives in Oregon, so he is usually unable to come home. It is much nicer for us to enjoy a nice dinner and no prep/cleanup. We have no extended family so this arrangement is perfect for us. We love the no-drama holidays.

We went out today too. A Holiday Inn the next town over was having a Thanksgiving buffet. It was just me, my husband, daughter and my father. My son works midnights and wasn't able to wake up early enough to go.

It was really good! Turkey, prime rib, salmon, pork roast and all the fixins. So many different types of desserts. I had bananas foster for the first time and OMG it was wonderful!

Sorry your dinner was so disappointing. We've had many of those ourselves.

We did last year since we were living on the other side of the country form our family. This year we're back on the west coast and are hosting Turkey Day dinner.

not today, but my aunt says we're going out for Christmas. she also said something about a lasagna dinner a couple days before Christmas at her house, but DH, DD, myself and great-grandmother don't eat lasagna. looks like we'll be bringing pizza, lol.

We went out to dinner too, Fire Mountain Grill (buffet). It's nice and has a lot to offer, but I was shocked they had no lemons for the water/iced tea. :scared1: Never have heard of a restaurant to stop offering lemons. :(

The reason we go out for Thanksgiving (always) is because my Mom doesn't cook, and her apartment is too small for everyone anyway. So she takes us out. I enjoy it but do miss the leftovers.

We host Christmas, so there will be leftovers then.

This year it's just the girls and me. We went to Cracker Barrel. It was really good and very affordable. I think it's the beginning of a new tradition for us! :cool1:

Did they have a full menu? What did they have special today?

We drove by there and it was packed.
