He's someone that has no business on a list with all the has-been state fair circuit bands that had one hit 40 years ago and have been playing the same set list ever since. This is like a football league comprised of 29 high school teams and the 1966 Green Bay Packers.
This man is a musical genius, playing trumpet, percussion, piano and vocals. I live 25 minutes from what many consider the finest jazz club on the face of the Earth, Yoshi's in Oakland. One reviewer said Sandoval's show last year was the best he's ever seen there, and this club hosts artists that are considered legendary in the world of jazz (Oscar Peterson, Chick Corea, Elvin Jones, etc.)
The "Classic Concerts" program on the BET Jazz channel has recently been airing a concert of his as well as an old Dizzy Gillespe(sp?) show that had him in the band. They are both phenomenal.
A lot of jazz has, sadly, started becoming museum music. Usually a good blues band will rate much higher on the excitement of the audience factor. However, when the Latin element is added, people can't help but move. If you are in WDW when Arturo Sandoval is playing, you are severely cheating yourself if you miss him.
Cheers.
