Mmm roasted chestnuts are good! I got them from street vendors in London in the wintertime.

I got some hot nuts from the mall the other day, but they weren't chestnuts.

The first time I saw these were in Madrid, Spain. In the summertime they sell ice cream on just about every corner. In the wintertime they had open fires and they would roast the chestnuts then wrap them in paper & hand over to you. I only tasted them once and that was a lllooonggg time ago.

If any of you want to do this in an oven......think twice.....well maybe dont think......but if you do this .....remember to pierce the outside of the shell........

They also sell them on the streets of NYC at Christmastime. I guess that would classify as "open fire". We've made them at home, too, on an outside fireplace.

We've done this many times. The first person who has a chestnut "pop" is the next one to get married.
