Hey,
Just wondering who has been able to meet the captains on the DCL ships? I bet they are really nice? How many of them are there? How did you meet them and did any of you have dinner with them?
Thanks

On both Wonder cruises we've been on they have offered a time (I believe on the last night) where you could meet and get things autographed by the Captain in one of the stores. Our first cruise was over New Years and we got a really neat new years litho that we took and had Captain John autograph. Had our picture taken with him too. Very nice man. He also walked on deck 9 the day we couldn't dock at Castaway Cay to apologize to everyone. Very nice. We met the other Captain at the return cruisers get together the second time. Very nice man also. I just can't remember his name! He was also in the atrium when we were leaving the ship at the end of our cruise (BOO HOO) and I took a picture of him with my daughter and her friend.

I know you can meet the captain on formal night...and he does signings on other days. We didn't make it to Semi formal night...aka the captans gala...so I'm not sure what he does on that night. But yes you can meet him.

My DW and I got to meet Captain Thord during our 30th Anniversary Cruise this past January. I found out that Captain Thord reads the DISboards and he saw a "Live from the Magic" thread that I had started during our January cruise. When my DW and I returned back to the ship after spending the day on CC, we found a voice mail message from Guest Services on our stateroom phone. We had a special invitation to meet Captain Thord on the bridge of the Magic for a personal tour and we were both invited to sound the Magic's horn as we sailed away from CC. Below is a photo that was taken with Captain Thord, my DW and myself. My DW and I are still both in awe of this lifetime memory, and were thrilled, by this very special invitation.

Yep...anyone can meet him. He is available one or two nights for photos and signings.

He is also at the Captain's Discussion (not sure if this is the right name) where you can ask him or anyone of the senior officers any questions. This is usually held on sea days.

We were lucky enough to be invited to dine with Captain Tom on one of our cruises (he has a table in Palo for this) along with 4 other couples but unfortunately at the last minute the Captain had to tend to an emergency onboard the ship (Cuban refugees that were adrift at sea) which was obviously more important. We still had a great time at Palo and each woman received a rose and we all got keepsake menus with the date, longitude and latitude and they were signed by the Captain!!

All the Captains are very nice but I find Captain Henry the most personable and easiest to chat with. Here are two link to two pics of two Captains!!

We've always found the captains to be very accessible, and there is typically a night - usually a formal night - when you can have your picture taken with the captain.

Every time we have been on board, they have been all around the ship, all the time.

A few cruises ago, I bought the "captains trading cards" framed with a photo of the ship, and at least at that time there were three that rotate - Captain Thord, Captain John, and Captain Henry. We had Captain Thord on our last cruise.

Ooops - almost forgot the fourth - captain MICKEY!

Just curious Mm37, how do you get an invitation to dine with the captain? I know that my DW would really love an opportunity like that!

At one of the Castaway Club receptions I was talking with one of the ships bridge officers and found out that he was one of the many captains on the ship. No, he wasn't "The Captain" or the "Master of the Ship" like Captains Tom, Thord, Henry, etc but his rank was still captain!

We met Captain Henry at one of the gift shops. He signed our DCL photo album and we took a picture of him with our kids. He was very nice and great with the kids.

We were invited to tour the bridge just before sailing away from castaway cay March 4th. Captain Tom was very interesting and nice. His assistant Joshua showed the children around the bridge while the captain talked with the adults. Captain Tom said he has several homes around the world one in Italy, Norway and somewhere in the states I think. He says he is on the ship 7 months of the year and when he is not on board the staff Captain runs the ship. I believe that is Captain Thord? :earsgirl:

got on the bridge leaving CC during the 10-day '04 cruise. It was an awesome experience. We met the captain and talked with him and he showed us all the buttons and gave us a tour. It was so cool. :cool1:

We had Captain Tom on the Magic in 11/04 and the Wonder in 2001 only captain we know :cool1: :cool1:  :earsgirl: :earsboy:

We met Captain Tom on our Make-a-wish cruise and Disney took pictures of us with him in the control room and gave them to us as a gift. I thought it was very nice and Capt Tom was extremely nice. :)

We met captain John on our last cruise and he was telling us all about the relatives his wife has in Wales, he was a true gent.

Sue...Wales is high on my list of places to visit....!!! It just looks so beautiful!!!

My DD wants to study in London, so a trip to the UK may not be too far off!!!

We had the pleasure of meeting Captain Thord in the Atruim of the Disney Magic. He was all by himself just hanging out late one night. My dh, dd, bil and I got to spend about 45 mins with him talking. It was very nice and we enjoyed it. My bil has a fishing party boat in the summer and he really had a good time speaking with Captain Thord.

On our December Wonder cruise we met Captain Henry (this was the second time we met him). We were the last couple to chat with him at the returning cruisers party, but he was as personable to us as he was to the first family. We love watching him on the Travel Channel show about DCL. It is like we know a celebrity.

We have also met Captain Tom a couple of times. He is also very nice, although not quite as dynamic as Captain Henry. :confused3

If you ever come to the UK you must come and visit Wales, it is absoulutly beautiful and I live in the capital Cardiff.

I can give you loads of info and interesting places to visit, if you do decide to come.

My DH is hoping to take that navigator's tour of the ship and hopefully meet one of the captains too! I hope to do this with him as we are both boat people. We own a boat on a lake and it is our fun home away from home in the summer. My DH recently is taking Coast Gaurd navigation lessons. He is already very good at driving our boat, but he always wants to learn more. Plus in about 5 years it will be required that all boat owners has a Coast Gaurd License so this will take care of that. Guess what the name of our boat is? princess: princess:

My DH and I were on the Magic in July 2001. He was always teasing me that I took my camera everywhere. One morning, as we were heading to breakfast, I had to run back to our stateroom to get my camera and back to my husband's teasing me. After breakfast, we were walking by the adult pool when we ran into Captain Henry. We talked to him for at least 5 minutes and I then took a picture of Captain Henry and my DH. My DH was so glad that I had my camera........
