We are trying to work in a dinner at Cat Cora's this next trip. Has anyone eaten there lately?

I wouldn't bother. I just did a review, there's a link to my dining report on my signature.

We did breakfast, it was not good at all. Our friends cancelled their dinner reservation, because if you can't do a decent breakfast you don't deserve to be a chef.

Underseasoned food, bad service, overall poor experience.

Thanks for the reply. I am really torn for dinner there. My sil wants to eat there but there is really nothing that jumps out for me. I guess we will try it and if we don't like just cross that off our "tried for the first time" list.

Have you tried the Flying Fish? It has exceptional food and service and right next door.

I haven't tried the new restaurant yet, but like you - I'm not sure anything really jumps out me that I want to try.

I will tell you now that we nearly cancelled our reservation for 10/28 after reading the dreadful reviews, we are so glad we didn't it was not only the best meal of our trip but the entree was the best meal I have ever eaten in my life. (Not the best travelled perhaps but living in the UK and been to fine restaurants in France, Portugal, Greece, Italy, Madeira and the USA and this was wonderful).

We had a fantastic friendly server (from Croatia). The restaurant was very laidback but suited our family perfectlyl. We were three adults and a child on ddp (although one 'adult' is 11). We shared a greek platter for appetizers which we paid for oop. It disappeared very quickly - next year we will need two. It contained pittas, chicken kebabs (we could have opted for shrimp but DS has a slight intolerence to shellfish) it had spicy cashew nuts, tzatziki, hummous, dolmades. All very well presented.

For entrees my DD had chicken with sweet potato fries. DS had the adult pork which was quite spicy, DH had the fish of the day and I had the steak, OMG it was cooked to perfection and served with new potatoes. Absolutely perfectly cooked.

DH and I had the greek red wine flight, kid's had glow drinks of some variety.

For dessert DS had the greek style donuts with dips (that will be my choice next time) DD had the make your own pizza dessert, I had the chocolate cake (more like a melting middle chocolate pudding for us in the UK.) DH gave up so we took the greek cookies to go and ate them watching spectromagic later that evening.

I had the pressed coffee pot which I expected to be charged for but came included in the DDP.

It wasn't cheap, we paid about $100 for drinks and apps in addition to the DDP but we loved it and intend to return next October.

I love reading the reviews on these boards but our tastes and experiences are all so different and restaurants can fluctuate in staff and quality of meat etc. from day to day.

I wouldn't cancel it personally.

We ate there recently (Nov. 11) and were not impressed. That's not to say anything was that bad, but it was just very, very lackluster. We both looked forward to it and left kind of disappointed. We expected it be more, well, Grecian, for lack of a better word.

The appetizers were ok. We split a spanakopita and each got a "Spiro's Greek Salad." Both were good, the salads were fresh, but nothing really spectacular about it. It is exactly as described - slices of ripe tomatoes, slices of cucumbers, a big hunk of goat cheese, a few sliced red onions and several kalamata olives, topped with a good, but very cliche, Greek dressing, much like the tzatziki dressing you'd find on a gyro.

I ordered what was billed as an "oak fired pork t-bone" served with farmhouse greens and citrus-fennel marmalade. The waitress was quick to inform me that the kitchen recommended it be cooked medium. I took her suggestion and eagerly awaited my entree. Mmmm, a big, thick, juicy pork t-bone steak! Just how big would this pork "t-bone" be, I wondered. And then it arrived. Ok - I know what a t-bone is supposed to look like. This thing was nothing more than a pork chop. A crummy, little pork chop. And it was not cooked medium. It was cooked well, and by well I don't mean properly. I mean over cooked. Almost dry in certain parts. To be honest, I've had better pork chops at Outback Steak House. And I didn't detect any oak-fired flavor. Without the marmalade, it was pretty bland. The best part of the entree were the farmhouse greens. Kind of a sad statement.

DW had the wood-grilled flank steak. She said it was good, but nothing spectacular. And kind of a small serving. Not much else to describe with that one.

For dessert, we split a baklava, served with a small scoop of pistachio gelato. The gelato was good. Would have liked a slightly larger scoop of it. Baklava is baklava. Walnuts, honey and phyllo. Not much else to say there.

All in all, as I stated at the beginning, it was pretty disappointing. The best part was watching the action going on in the open kitchen, despite the ocassional kitschy outbursts of "Opa!" from the kitchen staff whenever anyone fired up some saganaki. In my opinion, Kouzzina is about as Greek as Olive Garden is Italian. I can't really recommend it and we aren't likely to give it another try. Again, nothing was really that bad. It was just kind of an expensive, mediocre meal in a pretty mediocre setting.

Looking forward to dining at Cat's over the holidays. I will post my toughts at that time. :cool1::banana:
