Can anyone who has done the Wildlife Discovery Excursion at Animal Kingdom that is available to concierge guests provide details on it?

I'm really not sure what to expect. Is it a tour of the Kilimanjaro Safari area? How much time does it take?

Did you enjoy it?

Any information is greatly appreciated. :sunny:

The tour travels through MOSTLY the same area that the Kilimanjaro Safari vehicles use, with a few added turn offs and stopping points. The whole time you're out on the savannah is roughly 1 hour.

Has anyone done this tour and the Sunrise Safari?? I am trying to decide which one my family would enjoy more. :confused3

There are no age restrictions that I'm aware of. It is available to any concierge guests on property. It is about an hour long tour in an air conditioned mini-bus. I believe they cap the # of participants to 14 to give you an intimate experience. You will be taken in a small backstage area to board your bus then taken through Kilamajaro Safari while the ride is in operation. Your guide will give you a lot of information about the animals and their care. You'll be stopping off in their own pull offs to give you an opportunity to gaze and take pictures. We had a wonderful guide and a lovely time. It was well worth the $$$$ IMHO.

I have a few pics under my May meet pics that you can check out. You can also click on a fav member of mine there (BT) since she has even a better album then mine on this tour.

My husband and I went in December and really enjoyed it - in fact, we liked it so much we booked it again during our trip. The guides are folks who work with the animals (keepers and/or managers) and give a lot of great information. We had a different guide on both and since they work with different animals, they each talked alot about different animals (let's see how many times I can use "different" in the same sentence :rotfl:) and so each tour had its own flavor. We would highly recommend this (we have never stayed at AKL, so cannot compare to the sunrise/sunset Safari). Neither of our tours had any children, but the only age restriction listed on the info that I was sent (unless it has changed) is that kids have to be 3 years old. (I wonder though if young kids might get restless on this??)

We did the tour in Sept. for my DSs 8th birthday. I have 3 DSs 12,10 & 8. They as well as I and DH really enjoyed this. We happened to go on the tour with only one other couple. Our guide was very informative, my DS (8) loved it, he wants to be a vet. We got some great pictures and memories from the tour. It's on the same safari, but they pull over and stop for pictures and info on the animals. I thought it was worth the $$. We couldn't do the Sunrise Safari, my DSs are too young. I believe you have to be 14yrs old to go, but I could be wrong on that.

We went on it in Dec as well. We liked it but probably not something we would do again. Our DD, who is 7, got very bored. There were only five of us on the excursion, so not much interaction. It seemed like there was some lull at times because they had to make it last the full time you paid for. Again, it was nice, just not something we are going to pay to do again. If you do decide to do it, enjoy!

Does that mean we can invite other guests along with us and "split" the cost.

We're only 4 so there's room for more.
