Who has done MNSSHP in rain and wind?

We have tickets for MNSSHP this Thursday. This is the first time I have bought them so far in advance and, sure enough, it looks like Hurricane Matthew is going to be making the weather that day stormy and windy. So how bad does it have to get before MNSSHP is canceled? I know the headless horseman will not be riding, but what about the rest of the party?

:wave2: me

Been to a torrential rainy party.
It was one of two parties that I know in ten years that refunds/tickets were given out, the other was this year.
They don't cancel party but will cancel events. Watched Hallowishes in pouring rain ... was kinda cool and creepy.

I am heading down to the party too, don't have my tickets yet but I can't figure another time to get back.
Ponchos packed.

We were there for the deluge one several years ago, too. My hubby still refers to it as Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party and Wet T-shirt Contest. ;) It was our first MNSSHP, and we were so excited. We got there early, hit Monster's Inc. first, and when we emerged, it was raining. We waited . . . and waited . . . but the rain had set in for the night and would not let up. Lots of people left, but we thought, "What the heck," donned our ponchos and Disney booney hats and went for it. Once you were wet, it didn't seem to matter, other than having to wring out our hats several times. They did have the second parade, if memory serves (the rain let up a bit) and Hallowishes which is always awesome. I don't recall it being super windy, though, just massive amounts of rain. They passed out vouchers for a one day admission to the MK at the turnstiles as you exited which indicates just how bad it was. We actually did have a good time, though, and it's now one of our favorite Disney memories. :goodvibes

Fingers crossed the storm effects are as minimal as possible for everyone in the path. :grouphug:

Went the night the hurricane went through I think 2008 lots of fun, the hurricane hit like 4 am and blew through. the next day only the MK and EPCOT were opened only for hotel guests. Closed to everyone else.

If it's rainy, be sure to ask if you can't find the characters you are looking for. They move them inside to get out of the weather, and since people don't know where to find them, the lines can be much shorter.

If big components are cancelled (fireworks, parade, shows) be sure to stop by guest services before leaving. They might be offering replacement tickets or refunds.

We were at a party once that was given compensation for cold weather (MVMCP). We had a great time and didn't request anything, although we were disappointed that the stage show didn't run and it was the first time we had staked out a spot for it in many parties! We were at another party where we got drenched, but I don't think any compensation was offered (I didn't ask) because it was early in the evening and parade and fireworks still went on.

We attended a rain out party in 2008 or so. Hard pouring rain all night long. No parades. No fireworks. No outdoor attractions were open.

It was not fun at all - we were all miserable. The rain was so hard that ponchos were useless - the wind just blew the rain under the ponchos.

As we were leaving, Disney gave everyone free 1 day tickets to MK to make up for the washout.

Thanks for all of the input, everyone. I am reminding myself that this is a first world problem. We will have 2 kids with us and I will be disappointed for them because they are not likely to be back again for MNSSHP. But obviously there are much more important issues the Matthew is creating. Any more comments most welcome.

We did a MVMCP in the rain....and cold....it made me decide to not buy tickets in advance again. However at this very moment it looks like I'm going to have to eat my words on that as we're planning a mid/late Dec trip and people want to go and I'm thinking the dates will be sell outs. Oh well.

The good thing - be prepared and you can have a lot of fun as the crowds did clear out a lot. We had a small delay in the fireworks but did get to see them. That will be the most iffy part of it all. We have had the Headless Horseman cancelled for the MNSSHP after a brief shower and they may have to delay or cancel the parade. If that all happens I suspect they may even refund or offer a replacement night.

We went a few weeks ago when it stormed for an hour or so. They delayed Celebrate the Magic and fireworks until almost midnight, along w the second parade. There was one last abbreviated show w the Sanderson Sisters (we had hoped to catch them after the fireworks and second parade, and there were to be 3 showings). All outdoor rides (Splash, Astro Orbiter, 7DMT, the cars, etc, ) as well as trick or treating was cancelled. I know a lot of people got money back or an additional night but it didn't even cross out minds to try. And this was not a tropical storm.
With Disney evacuating Fort Wilderness, I'd be very surprised if they hold the party tomorrow. According to last estimates models, right near party end is when it's supposed to really start getting nasty, and I would bet they'd get everyone inside rather than hold the party.
Then again, during Hermione they shot off Wishes during driving rain and a tornado watch.

Rain and wind is one thing, a category 4 hurricane is another. If things continue as being forecast currently, I think there is a real possibility that party this Thursday gets cancelled.

We went to the 9/2 party and had rain & some wind for the start of that party and it was no issue. Poncho on and away we went. We had no headless horseman for the first parade, but other than that, no other changes or cancellations. That wasoutlining parts of TS Hermine though, so nothing like Matthew.

I'm sorry that you won't have an opportunity to reschedule it to a different day, if it does in fact get cancelled. That would be very upsetting, I'm sure, first world problem or not.

Someone posted on storm thread it has already been cancelled and refunds issued .. they are there now. Only post I have seen.

We decided to reschedule for Monday, since Friday's party is also in jeopardy. I am worried about having DH out late on Monday and then up early to fly home on Tuesday. His stamina is not good. But that is what he and the kids want to do. I guess you have to take risks sometimes, even at 83 years old and health problems.

A hurricane warning was issued in Central Florida as Hurricane Matthew bears down on the Bahamas, heading closer to the Atlantic coast of Florida.
I don't think you'll be making that MNSHP sorry but this is no joke... I am in less then a hour from Disney gas is low and water is gone in most stores.... i would stay home...

There is a hurricane about to hit. I'd be surprised if that party goes on.
I've been to one of the parties in horrible weather and it was miserable. No "making the best of it" magic to it at all. It was awful.
I'm not one to pretend it's great if it isn't. Those parties (for me) suck if it's raining and windy.

As of 7:15pm eastern time on 10/5, you can still purchase tickets for Thursday's party.

Disney is quoted on its website and on the news as saying it's monitoring the situation and will make decisions as time comes closer.
In reality, they were sued after the last hurricane that directly hit Disney by guests who were allowed to be in parks and outside in the weather. Friends of mine are saying they've been told to expect parks to close anywhere from 1-4 pm on Thursdaydepending on WHERE Hurricane Matthew hits. News reports gives wind gusts starts at 30 mph late afternoon Thursday and ramping to 50 mph sustained throughout Friday.

I'm surprised it took them this long but I guess they were waiting on the 11 pm hurricane report. I would also bet that Friday's party will be cancelled based on current weather reports.
