We were scheduled to go to disney this April but due to a family emergency may need to postpone until July. I always said I would never go to disney in July because of the heat and humidity but now we may have no choice. How bad is the heat in July? We always do the parks early but I think it is very hot even in the early morning. Also heard there is a lot of rain especially in the afternoon. Can anyone share their experience or advice about going in July?

I went last July and it was hot but there is a lot of a/c in all the parks to cool off! I will say that I wish I had brought 2 outfits per day because we would sweat through the first outfit by 2pm and when we would go back to WL to rest in the middle I really wanted a clean and dry outfit! I think I ended up buying 3 shirts for our 3 day trip for my family:). As for the crowds it wasn't any busier than spring break or Presidents' Day weekend. We were even able to get ADRs some places after we got to the park.

We have had several week long trips in July and August. Yes, it is HOT and it is humid. It's manageable though.

I echo the previous poster's suggestion about bringing 2 outfits per day (or planning to do laundry). Getting into the parks early and taking a break mid day will help too. We also utilize paths through gift shops for a quick cool down, and also know which rides to head to when we need a longer break (Carousel of Progress anyone?).

The greatest thing about going in the middle of the "hotter than the face of the sun" summer (as I call it) is the water parks. We frequently do a park in the morning, a waterpark mid day, and then back to a "regular" park for the evening hours. The WPF&M option is your friend! :beach:

I went in the second week of July last year and honestly I didn't have a problem with the heat at all. Maybe it was just a cooler week or maybe it's because as an Australian I'm used to a different kind of heat. I bought a Walgreens version of the chilly pad, didn't use it once. I also brought my face powder to touch up throughout the day and didn't feel like I needed that either. Here in Australian I burn within 30 minutes in summer unless I reapply sunscreen liberally. At WDW I just put sunscreen on in the morning without touching up throughout the day and I didn't burn at all :confused3

Lots of water, don't run around to heat yourself up, and hit the pool early afternoon to cool down. There will be brief showers in the afternoon but nothing that long.

I've gone during the last week of July and 4th of July week. Both trips were hot, crowded, and occasionally rainy. I would suggest investing in a good poncho and a water fan. I also try to alternate indoor and outdoor attractions so I don't feel wiped out by 2:00 P.M. :cool1:

We've been in January, February, March, April, May, July, August, October and December. July is crazy hot and humid! But we had a great time, primarily due to the following:

1) We went to the parks at rope drop and had a lunch ADR each day. This allowed us to enjoy the parks before they were hot/crowded, and the lunch ADR ensured that we always had a relaxing, air-conditioned spot for lunch. The lunch ADR did not mean that we ordered or ate a ton - I agree with the PP advice of not eating too much at once. But the lunch ADR did guarantee that cool spot to relax and get a little to eat.

2) We spent afternoons by the pool. The July weather was PERFECT for the pool. I get cold easily, but not at WDW in July!

3) We spent most evenings in Epcot. We found the crowds most manageable there. The MK and DHS crowds in the summer evenings were way too crazy for us. But Epcot was perfect in the evenings.

4) We bought one of those WDW water bottles with a fan. Sure, there are a zillion other less expensive options, but the psychological impact the special "Disney fan" had on our three boys cannot be underestimated!

Have fun!

We went last year in July. I too said that I would never go in July. It was our best trip yet! We did rope drop and fast pass and never waited more than 20 minutes. It was July 6 and the week after. Yes it was hot but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Enjoy!!!

We went the first week of August in 2010... yes it was hot as Hades! But totally manageable and we had a great time! My advice....

- Be at the parks at rope drop while it's still cool (by cool, I mean 80-ish!)
- Freeze water bottles at night to take during the day to the parks
- Take lots of breaks and take advantage of air conditioned attractions/shows/shops
- Head back to the resort for swimming, nap, shower, and change clothes during the hottest part of the day
- If you want to stay at the park all day, schedule a TS ADR during the hot part of the day and use the time to cool down, rest, re-charge

We've been in July on numerous occassions. Very hot and crowded, yet we always managed to have a great time!

Arrive early and get a lot down before it gets really hot (lower crowds at RD mean you get to do more as well). We used to be "commandos" but for a long time, we've been going back to the resort to swim when it's hottest and most crowded in the middle of the day. Then come back to the park later when the sun is starting to go down and the heat is not so bad.

July is very hot and humid, but it is still fun.:goodvibes One of the things I found that helped us the most was having an ADR each day for lunch. Getting out of the heat for a while into the air conditioning helps a lot. Just don't eat a heavy lunch or you will feel

Everyone will tell you to drink a lot of water, but don't just drink water. Drink a Powerade or that type of drink at least once a day. It helps replace all of the vitamins and minerals you are sweating out.

I found too that I felt cooler with a short sleeve top on than a tank top. Keep as much of that sun off of your skin as you can. And for whatever shows sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen.

I have to add that all of that heat sounds great right now! It is -8 degrees where I am.

We're both teachers; the only time we go to Disney is late July/early August. And we love it!

We're at the parks at rope drop. We tour until lunch, then head back to the resort to swim away the afternoon. We're back in the parks for our dinner ADRs.

The best small investment you can make is a couple of Mistymate personal misters. I just picked up 2 for my brother in law, who will be joining us this summer. I got them at amazon for under $10 each. They would be a bargain at double the price. They're the size of an electric toothbrush, but are manually operated. You can refill them at any water fountain or bathroom, and you have a nice cool mist anytime you get too hot. They're a definite trip saver for the summer!!!

We always order 2 cases of water (in addition to park snacks and breakfast stuff) from Garden Grocer. Water in the parks is crazy-expensive. Two cases does my family of 5 for a week just about right.

I hit Walmart and invest in a bunch of disposable ponchos. (They come 2 to a pack, so they're more compact than the dollar store ones.) Some years we get rain every day-- in 2008 we left the day Tropical Storm Faye arrived, so we had rain every single day. Some years we get less rain. But each of us has a poncho with us every day. If it does rain, the crowds tend to run for cover.

We're going again at the end of July/early August... and I can't wait. In fact, given that the wind chill at the moment is -5 degrees, I'm ready for some August heat!!!

Wait until noon when the lines are a bit longer, then hit a ride with an indoor queue, or a longer attraction that's indoors. Between that and lunch you'll feel better.

Examples:

MK: CoP, Pirates, Presidents, Space

Epcot: Ellen's. Energy. Adventure.

Almost as good as heading back to the hotel for a dip in the pool and an hour nap. Which is the best thing, but if you're off-property it might not be very convenient.

Aside from the searing scorching heat, another strange thing to deal with will be how freezing it gets after a rain shower. I have been in June and swore never to go again in the summer...the heat was bad enough but it was the crowds that really was bad. If you go just prepare for hot hot heat and packed parks with extra long lines.

We can only ever go in July or August - and its brilliant!! Hot enough to go swimming first thing at the water parks, and also late night at the resort.

We usually do rope drop, and are back at the resort by about two for either a sleep or a relax by the pool...then back to a park in the evening.

So its hot and humid....its a holiday!!! We are cold and miserable all winter so the glorious heat in July is the best thing in the world!! :goodvibes:goodvibes

We went in July 2012 and I'll echo the PPs that said that it's hot, humid but totally manageable.

We are going in August this year and plan on utilizing our same touring plan. Parks early, back to resort for pools/naps mid day and then back to parks at night.

Lots of water, less food. We actually only have 3 ADR's for our 11 day trip just because big meals are BRUTAL in the heat. We prefer to just snack throughout the day in that kind of heat.

It will be hot but still soooo much fun!! And it's so easy to pack for summer in FL!

It's hot. But, do-able. Water is a must, must, must.

The rain showers in the afternoon don't last that long. We take ponchos from the dollar store and march on.

My daughter and I went in late July one year but it was a non-park trip. We stayed at SSR and had a lovely time. It wasn't too hot, and found ourselves to be the only ones on transportation at times. I guess everyone else was in the parks! :thumbsup2
