That is, who were the first few to post on the DCL threads and did they post on the other DISboards before that....or did all the boards spring up at once? Are they still here???

IF u were one of the select few first-timers, how did u find the boards? I know I found them through Google but back in your day, DCL was brand-spankin' new!

Further, what makes you "old-timers" stick around when the DCL boards spin in cycles of questions...until a new ship or dry-dock takes place.... that is, surely you have seen every configuration of questions by now...soooo, how come you're not bored? I know why I'm still here but I am a comparative noob;)

I hope you can read that this isn't a negative post or accusatory....and that the "old-timer"-type references aren't meant as a slam.......

Jus' wonderin'.......................

I know I joined DIS back in 2000 after having hung out in the Theme Park boards on Prodigy. I remember Deb Wills before she became famous ;-)

Even though I've cruised 8 times and am going on my ninth in three weeks, these boards never get boring DCL is constantly changing through dry docks and new ships, so there is always something to share or learn. I love the meet threads and meeting fellow DISers on board. The are some friendships established here that have lasted for years.

I can't remember how I found the DISboards. It might have been after a WDW trip in 2003. It might have been Google.

I frequent the boards more as our next cruise vacation nears. I've gone months though, without even lurking. (It's a sad reminder that my next cruise isn't anytime soon.):sad2:

1997 when there was only 1 "general" board. Pete was the moderator back in those days.
We don't post much as there are too many people posting.
Have seen alot of moderators and popular posters come and go over the years.
We have been posting under the same name all those years.
We were on the first "DIS" =disney information station cruise years ago on the 3day Wonder- 27 DCL cruises later were still here as lurkers.

The month/year you joined the DIS Boards is under your avatar. :thumbsup2 I lurked on the one and only message board for a year before registering in September, 1999. I distinctly remember that there were only a little over 3,000 registered users at that time! I came across the DIS Board doing a search, but I don't remember what search engine I used at that time - probably aol. So, I guess you could say I was also one of the first DISers to post on the Cruise board since we'd already sailed on the Magic and so I was able to answer any questions, plus we were only a month away from sailing on our second Disney cruise (on the Wonder) when I registered. :goodvibes Now, we're getting ready to set sail on our 14th Disney cruise! It will be our "Grand Slam" cruise. :woohoo:

Well after 23 DCL cruises, I still stick around because I still learn new things. I enjoy reading trip reports.

Also, we have been sailing since 2000 and DCL is always making improvements and changes. I enjoy hearing about new things before we might be able to experience them.

I agree that the same questions are asked over and over, but we were all new at one time, that's how we learned.

#24 on the Fantasy in December and #25 in January on the new Disney Magic. (See what I mean, DCL always changing and improving).

We were on the AOL R.A.D.P boards prior to 1999, I'm looking at a magnet from the 4th Annual RADP Meet December 1999 and joined the Dis boards in 2000. WE also knew Deb before she was famous. We still love her and see her often.
We frequent the Dis boards often. We are sailing on our 12th cruise next weekend on the DREAM.

Randomly found the Dis and post mainly just on the cruise board. I enjoy helping other Disers with info when I can and even though we have 29 DCL cruises under our belt I keep learning new things all the time. I dislike all the "hater" threads but love reading all other threads. Things are always changing on DCL and this site provides a great way to keep up to date.

I remember finding out about the horrible events of 9/11 on the boards in real time...people started posting about it before I saw/heard it on the news. Cell service was out and news was sketchy but the Dis community kept posting what they knew and keep us all informed. We live 20 minutes from Manhattan and hubby was in law enforcement there so it was vital to me to know what was happening.

I have been posting on the DIS since early 1999, but my first Disney cruise wasn't until January 2008. However, I BOOKED (and subsequently cancelled) several Disney cruises before I actually sailed on one! I recall booking the first (August 2005) Panama Canal cruise on opening day in 2004 (and watching the prices go up, up, up!) - so I was posting on this forum at least by then.

I posted on the news group R.A.D.P. (Rec Arts Disney Parks) beginning in 1996, and have been a Deb Wills fan since 1997 - when her web site used to be wdwig.com.

did the dclboard spring up before the inaugural cruise or was it a response to those who had cruised??

There WAS a very first day of the DCL board and who made the first posts/threads? Sort of a piece of Disboard history, no?

The DIS boards have been around since 1997, but August 1999 is the earliest date stamp due to board changes.

I found the original site in 1997, I think it was featured in the old Women's Day magazine for a vacation planning article. I planned my family's first WDW vacation with webmaster Pete's help and the many people on the boards. I don't post a lot, only when I think I have something valuable to share or have a question. In more recent years I have been treated not so nice when I have commented, due to my 1999 join date and few posts (I re-joined in 1999 at the change over to the new servers), so i quit following the Theme Parks Attractions and Strategies board. In 2010 I started reading the Disney Cruise Line board and planned our first cruise. Disney sat us with someone who was also on the DIS and I told her I was too, but I don't post that much, so now I talk to her on the DIS to keep in touch. I have gotten lots of good information on this site and recommend it to anyone I know that are planning a trip to WDW or a Disney Cruise.

Not sure. We were on the MV of the Magic in 1998 and I didn't know about the boards then (don't think there was a cruise board at that time anyway) but when I found it I was more than happy to start sharing our DCL experiences.

Taking our next disney cruise on 5 October. Been here since 2000 and cruise with friends that we met on the dis board just about every year. We were on the first cruise after 9-11-2001. Been fortunate to be able to cruise 7 days or longer each cruise.

I joined to get information prior to our DVC purchase and spent most of my time over on those forums. Started cruising DCL about 5 years go or so and started hanging out here. We've done 7 so far, with 8 and 9 booked.

Did a lot of people cancel or not show for your 09/2001 cruise? Just curious. I know my sister cancelled her 10/2001 trip to WDW.

I've been here for quite a while; following RADP like others, WDWIG and related IRC stuff. Went to a meet in MA back in the day, too.

Didn't cruise till 07, but went to WDW in October 2001.
