Who has an IPod Touch?

Do you have an IPod Touch? If so, do you download and read books on it? How do you like it?

I wanted to get my child a Kindle for Christmas but the IPod touch does so much more for a little more money. If the Touch can be used as a text reader, should I get it?

Boo. As far as I know you can't download books onto it.

[EDIT] It appears I'm wrong!

You certainly CAN use the iTouch as a book reader. You can download the Kindle app and read anything from your Amazon account Archives.

The question is whether you'd want to read a whole novel on a device the size of the palm of your hand. And whether you'd be comfortable reading for that amount of time on a backlit device. And whether you'd be OK with the short battery life when using a backlit device.

Personally, I would never let my child read solely on an iTouch. I would buy her the $139 wifi only Kindle for reading and the iTouch or a cheaper iPod product for music.

I just don't think any Apple product is appropriate to be a primary ereader - and that includes the iPad. Eyestrain, size and battery life are the issues.

I have to agree here. I wouldn't want to read on that small screen. My DD11 started, and was put to a finish FAST. I saw her squinting. She has the KOBO E READER and loves it. Much cheaper than a Touch.

Also, be careful, lol, once you start with the Ipod Touch, you are not finished. DD already wants the new one, and then will want the newer one, etc.

I have an iPod Touch and I read a few books through the Kindle app. It is a bit of an eye strain and the battery will last a good 8 hours for reading only. I agree with previous posters a child would be better off with a Kindle.

I use my ipod as a reader by way of the kindle and stanza apps. I think it works great. The small form factor doesnt bother me. It just means that I flip pages more frequently, which isn't any big deal.

For me, the decision would be whether the unit was going to be used only as a reader. If that were the case, I'd by a kindle. However, I doubt that anyone that owned an iTouch would use it solely as a reader, even if that's the primary reason that they purchased it.

I use my Droid X for a reader too. I have both Nook and Kindle on it. I like that it is backlit so I can read in bed without having a light on :thumbsup2. The Droid and the Nook sync with each other so you can read on one, place a bookmark and then pick up the other and read on there too. I don't know if this works on the Itouch too but I would guess it does. I find I read faster on this then a regular book too.

Another thing, if anyone has a child that has reading difficulties-especially moving from line to line, a Droid or Itouch would be a GREAT thing for them because it only shows a few lines at at time. I think this is something special ed teachers should REALLY look into.
