Who has a sick kid at home now?

With all this illness going around, I was just curious how many of us currently have kids down and out.

DD is down with "a virus". She is really knocked out with this thing. DS has "a cold" but it's not keeping him down.

DH and I both have colds but nothing big, pretty minor so far.

I'm allowing multiple answers so if you have one of each illness you can check 'em all!

DS (15) has had a 103 fever for 2 1/2 days. Went to Dr, he has an upper respiratory infection and an ear infection. I was surprised in the pediatrician's office. There were 8 children in the waiting room at the time. Two were toddlers and the rest were teenagers. Everyone of them came out with a prescription form in hand. Hope all the kids feel better soon!

DS (17) 101 fever, a cough that sounds like a barking seal, headache, etc. The doctor diagnosed the flu and sent us home with a prescription cough medicine.

Just took DS12 to the Dr.'s today. (after getting a busy signal for over 5 hours and waiting on hold for another 20 mins! Don't think they've got their hands full, eh?) He has 102.4 temp, croupy cough, headache. "Flu" say's she. But he's had his flu shot. Flu. Sent me home with instructions on treating the symptoms and NOT to reurn to school until fever free. (Could this be because her child is in DS's class?) She also informed me that a nearby school district is considering closing for a long weekend, possibly leaving the kids home this Friday and having next Monday (Presisent's Day) off as well. 27% last Friday! Hoping this flu is the one we all had shots for and DS just picked it up from a weakened immune system. If I get it LOOK OUT!

Sounds EXACTLY like what DD has but our pediatrician says "not flu, it's a virus". Flu has body aches according to our pediatrican.

The "croupy" cough is supposedly from mucus around the vocal cords. Dr said she put 2 kids in the hospital with croup over the weekend. Didn't say my kid had croup though.

In parting, we were told to come back on day 5 of the fever for reevaluation and to me it sounded like they thought I might as well make the appointment then....they were sure they would be seeing us again on Thurs.

Apparently this is a hanging on kind of fever thing.

Took DS11 to the doctor this morning.

Symptoms: Since Friday afternoon he's had headache, sore throat, cough.

Diagnosis: virus that she said is going around our area now.

Treatment: cough medicine and ibuprophen for headache and throat pain.

He's feeling fine now, he'll be back at school tomorrow.

I hope all the sick kiddies are feeling better soon!

My DS, 4 yo, has had between 102.5 and 104 temp since Sat. He went to bed Fri night fine and woke up in the middle of the night with 104.5 fever.

Seems to be going around and all you can do is have them rest. Mortin cold and alot of fluids.

I have 2 sick.

DS2 is complaining of a sore throat and has a fever.

DS8 was picked up at 10:30 this am from school complaining he was going to vomit. Never did (thank goodness, I can't deal with that). Fever set in this afternoon -- 102.5. Slept a little bit but the tylenol and motrin have kicked in.

And, we all have pink eye.

Something tells me it's going to be a long night.

I almost forgot.....DS8's school said to keep him home a day more than I think he needs because they have had too many kids return before they should and end up out the day after they return again.

My youngest DS stayed home today with a fever, headache and cough. DH has it but felt good enough to go to work.

My DD has been coughing since the week before Christmas. She was at the Allergists 2 1/2 weeks ago and has a sinus infection. He put her on antibiotics and we've seen no improvement. Went to ER on Sun. night and also has Bronchitus (sp?) Switched to new antibiotic. She's on other meds regularly so she can't take any type of cough medicine to help. missed several days of school. Hopefully this new antiobiotic does the trick or will be back at the dr. again.

Does a (self inflicted) broken toe count? My DD12 kicked the couch (full force kick, luckily she had her shoe on) and broke her big toe.

I voted last night and checked "virus", though some say it is the flu that was not in the shot(we all got the shot). It may be a virus that is "flu-like". I don't really even think the Dr's know unless they swab the child. DD's was the high 103-104 fevers, cough, sore throat and congestion, then secondary infection. Never seen her so sick. About 5-6 days sick, today she is fever free and I hope it lasts. I do know 2 moms who brought kids back to school today. Said they got it Friday night. I imagine they are still contagious and the fever may return. My DD's broke a bit then returned with infection. I think this thing is almost epidemic.

None of us are sick...other than a little runny nose here and there. But we (Moms) decided to put preschool on hold until the other families are better.

edited: Our city school system did send out a letter last week about illnesses and when to send your kids and when NOT to send them, how to avoid becoming ill, and the signs of illnesses. It's getting bad here. I believe some schools in a nearby city actually closed. I don't get those kids who have perfect attendance...either they are very fortunate and never get sick....or the parents send them anyway.
