Who got or gave new cameras or gear for Christmas?

Santa was good to me too and gave me a Canon XTi! Now all I have to do is figure out all the new features before we leave in 3 days! Anybody have suggestions on a good lens that will capture things in motion (kids at sports functions), in addition to taking photos in low light condition (dark ride photos without flash). I received the basic lens that came with the camera. I did see where our local Target was offering a 75-300mm.

All of the tips on this board are great!

I gave my dd12 a Kodak Easyshare M753 (purple) for Christmas. She got it on Christmas Eve and hasn't put it down yet. Never had one before, except when she used mine (ugh!) She LOVES it!!! The Easyware software is really easy to use, too.

I too got the XTi!!:santa: DH picked up the 18-55 lens with the IS on it, and the 75-300 III lens as well. I'm a happy girl!! ( a bit overwhelmed by all the functions, but happy none the less!!!)

I got a Nikon D40! I was surprised! I did use it Xmas eve:confused3 I'm planning on taking the classes that Ritz camera offers. Boy, you sure can tell the difference in the photos!:)

My husband surprised me with the Canon S5 Christmas Eve. So far I love it!:goodvibes

I got Photoshop Elements 6.0. I already have 4.0, so I'm familar with the product, but have found there are enough differences to have a learning curve. I also got Bamboo Fun from the DH. He had seen it in one of my photo mags and totally surprised me with it! I have it hooked up, but can't figure out how to use creatively yet.

I gave my 11-year-old a camera for Christmas. It's a Kodak Easy Share that Walmart had seriously discounted. He had tons of fun with it, and for once, there are photos with ME in them this year! :)

DH got my XTi a new "7 Million Dollar Home" bag from Crumpler. She's all cozy in there now, with her extra lenses, and PLENTY of room for more goodies;) Was not a surprise, but still much appreciated!

I got a new lens for myself.. Olympus 11-22 f/2.8-3.5 :)

The (maybe) future Mrs Claus brought me a new printer and it is a biggie...the Epson Photo 1400. I have so far gotten to the first step 'UNPACK' as everyone seems to be pulling me everywhere...:lmao:

Can't wait to start printing larger pics (no need to order them now).

Also found a Gary FongLight Shere II under the tree...that I did use all day and what a difference it makes for flashes.

Oh gosh - where to start? Well DH surprised me with the Canon 70-200 L f/4 on Christmas eve. (I got my big white lens!! :woohoo: ) Had me in tears. I also go a light meter, Adobe Lightroom, books on posing, lighting and lightroom. A 2 gig san disk memory card - and a friend of his was selling a very old canon slr film camera - several lenses and a few other things (haven't had time to really go through it all) so he bought that from his friend and gave me a box of black and white film to go with it. Not sure how much I will get into the whole film thing, but it will be fun to play with and another thing for me to learn. I love a challenge.

I gave him a canon camcorder for when we are out storm spotting and non photography related I also gave him the upgraded version of the ham radio he has in his SUV (he wanted one for the house) along with an antenna. Today we are headed out to get a 6ft pole to attach the antenna on, some wires and a power pack :confused3 I have no idea - I'm just going along for the ride.

Wow, you must have really been a good girl this year. :thumbsup2

DH got his Dell XPS and has told me at least a hundred times how much he loves it. soon as he hooked it up I could hear him in his office saying to himself in a low voice, "wow, this sucker is fast!" :rotfl:

Getting ready for a trip out west this summer and gave my MIL & FIL a Panasonic TZ3(?) and DW a Panasonic FZ18 (gotta love that zoooooommmm)!

DW gave me a Nikkor 70 - 300VR for my D50 and can't wait to put it to the test. I've taken almost 200 shots with it so far; its an awesome, yet heavy, lens! :goodvibes

Happy Holidays ...

I got a rebel XTi, nifty fifty, 2 gig CF card and a tamrac bag.

I also have chunk of change in amazon gift certificates to buy another lens - wooohooo!

LOL that sounds like me the first time I used mine. "Whoooaaa - this is fast!" MY DH refers to my XPS as "the space ship".

Glad your DH is enjoying his.

DH got an HV20, I wanted but didn't get a 50mm f/1.8... :( lol

I got DH a Canon SD1000. He does not want to control anything, just snap, and the smaller the better. It is tiny and very fast. He is 50 and has never owned anything but disposables. I am usually the picture taker. He's been wanting one for some time, but was still a little surprised. Got a great deal on it.

I also gave my DD9 a Kodak C613. Perfect little cam for her! Love the easy, logical Kodak menu system. She was not surprised, more like relieved, as she has been fervently wishing for a digital camera for many months. Another great deal.

The coolest thing is that she and mostly DS got a Wii for Christmas, and she discovered that you can put the memory card in there and see the videos and pics right away, and even play with them a bit on screen. Instant slide shows with music and all. We watched a very moving slide show of all the Littlest Pet Shop pics she's taken. I just can't imagine having this kind of technology available to me when I was a kid!

I also got a Flip video cam for my D Stepson and his wife. Their baby is due in January and I thought it would be great for them to be able to film and send quickly. It was a selfish gift. They were suprised and think it's very cool.

I did not get the expensive SLR I've been hoping for. But that's okay. : ) Maybe next year.

What did you get (camera or accessory)?
Rebel Xti
Was it a surprise or did you know ahead of time?
Dropped LOTS of hints but wasn't sure

Did you use it on Christmas day at all?
Just a little

Ever had one (or similar) before?
Upgrade from a Canon G5

I'm heading to the World on 1/19 so I need to figure out some of the newer bells and whistles over my old G5 and I need a new camera bag.

I got a monfrotto monopod; 20 gels; barndoor/gel grid thingy to fit on my lights; a color balance disc (and registration in a seminar next month on how to use it right!) and a wired remote so I can sit in the comfort of my chair and adjust my lights however I see fit!

I got lots of things from various family members that were on my list:

Giottos rocket blower
2 sizes of rubber lens hoods
Lowepro Omni Sport waist bag for when I go walking with my D80
Magic Lantern Guide for the D80
Scott Kelby Digital Photography Book + Elements user guide
Bryan Petersen Beyond Portraiture book
MLL3 remote

I still want to get (DH says I can buy them anytime I want - still figuring out exactly what I want/need):
67 mm circular polarizer
SB600 or 400 flash

and finally I really need....
more free time to read up on everything!!!!! I have a lot to learn!

It was a nice Christmas! I was using my D80 & mostly playing with my 50/1.8 which I got back in October. Happy New Year everyone.:santa:
