I just read an e-mail from Publix Direct that they are finished because not enough customers used them! They must be wrong on that. I didn't use them as often as I would have liked because of the delivery charge and the inflated prices compared to the stores. But when I didn't feel like running out or couldn't get there, it was a wonderful service! I'm going to miss it for sure.

I'm bummed to hear this!

I've been patiently waiting for the day they'd start service in my area. Online grocery buying has been a long-time dream of mine, as I hate to go to the grocery store.

Guess that's not gonna happen now!

So sorry you didn't even get to try it, Bsnyder! It was wonderful. They brought all the bags of food in the house, you signed for it, and that was it. And the food was much colder than when I bring it home from the store. Must be all the refrigeration on those trucks.

Here's the e-mail...

Notice to PublixDirect customers: The
PublixDirect online grocery service has ended. All
ordering and delivery has been discontinued.
Unfortunately, we didn't have enough volume to
keep operating. We appreciate your business and
loyalty. It has been our pleasure to serve you,
and we hope that you will continue to shop with
Publix in your local store.

Regards,

The PublixDirect Team

Never got in my area either. I am bummed too. I was really looking forward to giving it a shot.

I think it's strange that they stopped it so abruptly. I would think they would give their customers some type of advance notice. :(

Rats! I don't know if this service was available in our area or not! However, if you are shopping at the Publix in Lake Mary, make sure you push your wagon up to Ron's aisle. He is a great cashier and a wonderful human being! :)

Employee, I kind of figured this service would not fly. Remember: Publix is in business to MAKE MONEY, and they had too much overhead to make a profit. They could have extended the service another year, but, they thought best to put an end to it NOW! Winn Dixie had this same type of service, but ran it out of the stores, but it didn't make it either.:o Perhaps in another 10 years, it will do better.;)

I certainly don't think Publix is obliged to run a service that they're not making money on.

I guess I'm just suprised that there wasn't enough of a demand. Maybe they didn't price it correctly? I have no idea what the pricing was, because we never got the service in my area.

Well, maybe that was part of the problem too. If they had more service to more areas, they would have done better, but didn't want to put out the extra effort it took. I am really down on my Company right now, due to changes being made that we have NO say so in, such as being paid by the minute:rolleyes: and not being able to have 2 accounts opened in the credit Union at the same time... Also, we don't get paid ahead of time for our vacation, and we have to fill out forms if you are going to take ANY time off, be it a day, or an Hour!   Its ridiculous, I need to retire and WORK for DISNEY! ;) (I wish).

I can't imagine there not being enough demand. Everyone I knew used it! And I would think it was a really good thing for all the senior citizens in the area, provided they had computer access to place orders. I don't know about the pricing. They would have good deals on some things, sales on other things, and yet others that the price wouldn't be budged on. My biggest pet peeve was the price of the paper towels I use. In the stores it's $7.19 for an 8-roll pack. Why pay that when I can run across the street to Target and get the same thing for $4 and change?! So that's what I do. And they were more than $8 through Publix Direct. So I never ordered paper towels through them, but it was worth it to me to pay the higher price on dog food to have them deliver the huge bag. ;) I would think that if they had expanded their delivery area, they could have made it a decent thing. I keep wondering what they'll be doing with all their delivery trucks now!

Sorry to hear that, Faith. I've always had such a high regard for Publix, as a company.

As a consumer, I wouldn't think of shopping anywhere else. They are head and shoulders above any other chain!

Pin Wizard, I'd pay $8 for a roll of paper towels if I could have it delivered! Have I mentioned how much I hate to go to the grocery store? LOL!

Too bad they didn't bring that service here to Tampa. I might have single-handedly kept them in business, LOL!

We had a service like this several years back. I loved it! I think it was called PeaPod. Unfortunately, it didn't last very long before they too, went under. :(

I am so surprised there's not enough demand to keep front door grocery delivery a viable service. I sure used it, but apparently no one else did. I keep hoping another grocery store chain in our area will start a successful delivery service, but no luck yet. :(

That's too funny! :) My husband worked for Publix. Couldn't beat their benefits!! And now that I'm a student AGAIN, the thought has crossed my mind to work there part time. The main reason I keep shopping with them is that they have the cleanest stores in the area and because I've got stock that they gave DH! :teeth: Gee...guess I shouldn't go to the competitors! LOL! Last year when I had a few topics to choose to do a paper on where we had to describe something step by step, I chose...What's the easiest way to shop! Publix Direct! :teeth: Definitely shopping online!
