I'm excited and relieved to finally have our developer points booked for HHI for 6 nights over Thanksgiving.

This will be our first DVC stay and we can't wait. :cool1:

I'm sure some of you will be there, too. Any tips or advice on making the most of it?

Does the resort offer some sort of Thanksgiving meal like they did for Easter? Or, can anyone suggest a great place for Thanksgiving dinner for a family with 3 boys ages 7, 3 and 3?

Also, I'm thinking DH would like to golf. He's not what I would consider a "great" golfer, but can hold his own, so can anyone suggest a course that he could look into that might be good for him?

My family will be there over the holiday period and we are so excited! Hubby and I arrive that Monday and familly will join us on Wednesday. We all leave for home on Sunday. Should be a good time. We spent the holiday week a few years ago and had a blast! Someone arranged a DIS meet for us at the beach house and Chef Gordon was there. It was so nice to put faces with screen names. I hope something similar happens this year!

I know the year we went, we received a flyer about a month before our trip that listed the different turkey day offerings. We declined to purchase from the resort and boy were we sorry! The smell of fried turkeys just about drove us crazy. So that is top priority this time, if the meal is offered.

Sorry, can't offer any advice or suggestions about golf. I hope you and your family have a wonderful time and if a meet is arranged, I hope to see you there! :)

That "someone" would be me. :)

And, barring unforeseen circumstances, I'll be planning one again this year. :woohoo: Can't promise any celebrity sightings ;) , but definitely do plan on a lot of fun!!

We have been at the resort every Thanksgiving since the resort opened except for two (maybe three?). We absolutely love it!!! The "regulars" at the resort for Thanksgiving have become our Thanksgiving family and we look forward to seeing familiar faces each year; new faces are always welcome! :grouphug:

The meal the resort has always offered is either roast or fried turkey with your choice of sides and dessert. We have never taken advantage of the meal, because I cook Thanksgiving dinner in our villa. I take some shortcuts that I normally wouldn't take if I were cooking at home, but DH and kids have never complained. But Lisa is right, the smell of the frying turkeys is unbelievable and one of these times, I will take off my chef hat and order from the resort!

One of our highlights is always the Turkey Bowl -- flag football for young and old on the beach on Thanksgiving Day. (The time of day is determined by the tide schedule; they play at low tide to have a wider beach.) DS is now almost 20 and still loves to play each year. (He's a college baseball player and quite competitive, LOL!)

There are usually a few golfers in the group as well. (DH and DS being among them. ;) )

As we get closer to Thanksgiving Day, watch this board for details! Look forward to meeting you!

Hi Disneyholic! I recall very fondly the year we went and met so many wonderful DISers. I am so glad to hear the tradition continues and I will plan to be at the meet so I'll keep a look out for the thread as the time gets closer. I am so excited to spend the time at one of my favorite places with my family. They love HH as much as me and DH. See you guys soon! :)

We became DVC members in Dec 2007 and live in NC. We have no family beside DH, myself and three DS's so thought HHI would be perfect for Thanksgiving. I did not realise how popular it is. We have the 7 month booking window and managed to get only a one bedroom the night before and after Thanksgiving but are on the wait list for Thanksgiving night. I sure do hope something opens up otherwise we will have to cancel trip not having that middle night. Hope to see you all there..cross your fingers for us

We're also planning on HHI for Thanksgiving, third year in a row-we love it! And any golfers-DH LOVES to golf, he plans to golf several times that week. I'm sure he'd enjoy golfing with fellow DISers. He'll be the one who always has his golf clubs with him.
About Thanksgiving dinner-yes, the resort has an offering. However, also Piggly Wiggly has a dinner offering that we took the first year. Then last year we discovered that Signe's Bakery had a turkey dinner for two (I don't know if they have an offering for a bigger family). Naturally, it was delicious (isn't anything from Signe's?) so we're really hoping for a repeat of that this year. We just made our flight reservations last week, so now we can't wait. See ya all there!

We'll be there too! :woohoo:

Yay! I'm so glad to hear you're going (if I remember, you weren't sure at first). I was afraid I'd have to get desperate and tempt you with this:

We are coming! Not sure exactly how many Thanksgivings we have been at HH, but it's quite a few! We started coming in 1997.

We will try to make the gathering this year, as we didn't get 'home' very early last year. I might just add Tuesday night so we can be there all day Wednesday.

See you all there!

How long do you go down for? Do you leave on a weekend?

I just called MS to check availability for HHI for the entire week of Thanksgiving, all room types. Everything is booked for the whole week! Wow, I had no idea. This is early in the 7 mos. booking time frame too.

I started calling at the 7 month mark and I am waitlisted for a 2BR on Wednesday and Thursday nights of Thanksgiving week. Hope it comes through. I have tried to make a cash reservation just in case, but their system has been down for over a week. It is rather frustrating. I have lots of family coming down and have made them a reservation at the Marriott just across the marina with weeks from our other timeshare. Sure hope to see you all there. We have gone a couple of times at Thanksgiving and we love it!

We usually go for 3 to 5 nights at Thanksgiving. This year I have a two bedroom booked for Wed, Thurs, Fri and Sat nights, checking out and driving home on Sunday. Last year I arrived too late on Wednesday to go to the meet, so I may book Tuesday, or I could drive halfway or more on Tuesday and check in early on Wednesday. Tuesday is usually an easy day to get by itself.

This is my next scheduled DVC trip, so I am looking forward to it quite a bit, even though it's still only May. Maybe I should book a few days for Food and Wine..........

We are going back to HH!

We will have Thanksgiving with family and then will be at Hilton Head Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday nights.

We spent a lot of time in Savannah on our November '06 trip, but plan to do more at the resort and beach on this trip.

We booked last week and had to get a studio for part of the trip and a 1 bedroom for part of the trip.
