Who Else Besides Me Misses the Old Paper Fast Passes?

There was just something about going up to those machines, inserting your card and out pops the fast pass. Now I really like the Magic Bands, but I miss the old paper fast passes. Doesn't anyone else miss the old way, or am I just waxing nostalgic? :teleport:

i dont remember the old paper ones, but i like knowing ahead of time which ride/time. i just wish Disney would put out the park hours and leave them be so the time i put into making my FPs and ADRs aren't for nothing.

I don't. I mean, despite the change it makes in standby waits, I think over all, the FP+ is a benefit.

ETA: sorry, I realized after posting that you were looking for those who agreed, and I shared my thoughts as a dissenter. My bad.

I do prefer FP+ although I think there are some aspects that need to be adjusted, like offering FP for literally everything. Some attractions simply don't need it, and some attractions are not setup well for it. I'd go back to the Disneyland model, where only certain rides even have FP, but keep it digital and pre-planned.

I do miss how you could give away a paper FP you weren't going to use. You could really make someone's day!

I completely agree... it was much more fun for us not being tied to specific times a month out. I also enjoyed having more than 3 per day, and all of them E-tickets if I wish.. riding everything we wanted was so much easier and added a lot to the value of a Disney day. :sad1:

I do miss that way. I don't like planning months in advance, because usually my plans will change later anyways. If you want to still use the paper fastpass, they still use it at Disneyland for the time being. Who knows what will happen with this new system they are supposed to role out this year.

I'm with you. I like FP+ so much better than paper, but I do miss that. It can still be done, just not as much. We had someone walk up to my boys and I as we sat outside the entrance to RnR, waiting for DD to get out of the bathroom. They offered us paper FP+ they had received earlier in the day (from a ride going down I presume). It was really cool, I was very appreciative.

I definitely miss them. The nice thing was that it was more fair. Resort guests didn't get first pick, it was whoever got to the machines first. I also think it probably made wait times overall shorter, as it was for just the really popular attractions so the less popular ones didn't get slowed down constantly with waiting for FPs. And I agree about it being better with not being tied to specific times a month out, and no tiering then.

What I miss is the testing phase of FP+. We stayed at the Board Walk at that time and we were allowed to make FP+ choices in advance but once there we could also get the paper FP as well. 'Double Dipping' it was called and it was great while it lasted.

I miss it a LOT. FP+ has made planning that much more stressful. I don't like having to plan what time I'm going to a park months in advance, but making FP+ in the late afternoon stinks if you decide you want to head to the park earlier than that. I like the, in theory, benefit of not HAVING to make rope drop in order to get FP for high ticket rides, but honestly I never went at a time of year where I couldn't still get a FP for at least later in the evening even if I didn't get the FP til midday.

I think it's beneficial for those who can't go except for high capacity times, but it really sucks all the spontaneity out when I'm wondering what rides to do at what time when I'm months away from physically being in the park. It still seems like madness to me. I'm trying to plan a trip with friends in November who are not WDW nuts like anyone here on the boards - they entrusted me with planning the trip, saying they want to be laid back and not have to plan everything but also saying they want to avoid crowds and long lines - this is a reasonable request in most vacation situations. Heck, it was a reasonable request that I pulled off with no issues when we last used original FP. I feel like I'm basically trying to create the "illusion" of spontaneity this time around. :confused3

I try not to complain about it too much. This is the way it is now, no way is Disney ever going to try and scale BACK on crowds, and no one is forcing me to go there. But when people bring up old FP I do get a little sad. It's not just the FP that's gone, it's the days of empty parks and walk in restaurants and feeling like you have the place to yourself.

I really miss that part of it, too. I've been on both sides of it and giving them away was every bit as much fun (if not more) than receiving them.

Kind of. I miss being able to pick the park we want to go to at the last minute based on weather, etc. But I don't miss sending either myself or my DH sprinting ahead as the "fast pass runner" I miss not being so tied to a phone at the parks too

I miss it for the certainty of riding your favourite ride in a park 3+ times in a row. I remember riding Soarin' in Epcot over & over again one morning using paper FP. I remember doing the same with the old school Test Track. Sad because if you found a ride or attraction that you loved above all the rest, you could make it a priority and ride the monster out of it in one single day if that was your priority.

The only aspect I truly enjoy with FP+ is it gives me additional Disney planning tasks to do before we leave.

I really don't like them and what they've done to our touring style. We're much more regimented than before with paper FP. I also really hate that they've ruined many of the low/no wait attractions by making them FP+ attractions.

What I miss is the shorter lines at what used to be our backup attractions... the ones the we knew would never be too busy.

I also liked sharing the ones we weren't going to end up using with others.

Other than that, I like booking ahead, and I like them being electronic.

We miss them a lot. We got so much more done in a day with the old system buck we could FP multipe things and multiple parks. The strategy now requires a lot more planning and leaves us in so many more (long) standby lines. Now you have to build in time for meals rather than winging it. It's just too complicated to be fun.

I miss them 'very' much - mainly because it's so frustrating just being able to get 'one E ticket', total 3 before 'trying' to get anything else. :(

Of course, it's obvious why they had to start this type FP - there aren't enough E ticket rides/times to accommodate all the people that come into the parks. Have to limit you to let more people have a chance at 'one' great ride.
