Who do you think should replace John Ashcroft?

News media rumblings are that he will resign in a couple weeks, if that happens who do you think would be the best replacement?

quite frankly, it would be hard for them to find someone that disturbed me anymore than ashcroft did. dh said last night maybe gwb wanted his legacy to be "the great uniter" and that maybe he was going to try to find someone more in line with the mainstream than ashcroft. i hope so!

I would say Rudy Guiliani, unless he has his eyes set on the presidency in 2008.

There are rumblings that it could be Tom Ridge and then R.Gulliani would replace him or Gulliani would just step in for Ashcroft. He sure seemed to be campaigning for something last week even though I do like him.

well for one thing, i think rudy would be less divisive politically than ashcroft. ashcroft loves telling anyone who asks questions his policies that they are not better than traitors. even if rudy believes that, which i don't think he does, he wouldn't be so offensive in expressing his opinions.

he also takes on state laws that he disagrees with like california and oregon's medical marijuana laws and orgon's assisted suicide laws. jmho - but i am a big fan of state's rights. i think rudy would not be so active when it came to this kind of thing.

i could go on and on...

Got it - a DEA raid a month and a half after 9/11 shows that medical marijuana use was Ashcroft's priority. Sorry, but I don't agree with that. The war on terrorism doesn't mean that everything else absolutely stops. And a drug raid by a federal agency doesn't mean that medical marijuana use was Ashcroft's priority.

i don't agree that it means it was his priority, but i don't think it was a politically smart move either. again, this goes along with what i've posted in other threads. there are ways to get your point across without being so divisive and controversial.
