Poll coming. I will state as bullet points here.

1. Our house is 7 years old. When it was just over 2 years old, the sewer pipe separated from the house causing damage. Cost to repair was $3000, and was paid by insurance company to Roto Rooter, who said it was caused by the house settling.

2. Yesterday the toilet overflowed and I could not clear it so I called "Mr. Rooter". They determined that the same problem happened again. However they showed us WHY it happened. And their explanation made sense and was easily understandable and evident. They showed us 3 easily seen to the naked eye problems caused by shoddy workmanship of Roto Rooter. Mr. Rooter explained what should have been done, and showed us them fixing it the right way. The cost of repairs was $3500.

3. Called insurance company and they say they do not plan to cover it. Why, I don't know, since they talked to my wife. I will ask her specifics ASAP, but today she is out of town.

This company is guaranteeing the work for 50 years. I called Roto Rooter yesterday, BEFORE I knew what the problem was, and they said they only have a one year warranty. However, I believe, that they ( Roto Rooter ) are to blame since this problem was caused by THEIR poor workmanship.

Really, it was QUITE obvious how poorly they did their work once you saw the damage.

i'm kinda surprised your homeowner's insurance company is'nt dealing with this for you. ours backs any repairs they have paid for to one of their authorized vendors-i thought this was pretty standard in the industry.

Me too, since they covered it before. I don't have all the answers until I speak with my wife and them, tomorrow and Monday.

I voted for Roto Rooter since they screwed up the repair job, but I would also go after the builder. It certainly isn't normal for a sewer pipe to fail like that in a 2-year-old home. Sounds like there was a problem from day one.

I vote for the builder too. It sounds like Roto Rooter didn't correct a problem that was already in existence.

I accidently did home insurance but meant to do nobody...

same thing happened to us-in new home less than 2 years old. First called the plumber out-cleaned the drain out--2 weeks later the same thing happened again. Call a different firm out to clean the pipes-plus we called the city to inspect our line. City inspection showed that our line stopped about 6 inches before the main drain pipe at the road.

Called the company that put in the line-they inspected it and found that wither due to settling or blasting being done closeby, our line had partially collapsed. The line was replaced at no charge to us-plus the builder refunded our cost to have the lines cleaned out. It is now between the home builder and the company who put in the line to decide who is responsible for the costs. We have been reimbursed in full.

I too would talk with the builder.
