ended up going back? I have a friend that did this all because she had problems with getting her Pay Pal account switched. So now she tells me she's back with AOL...AT A CHEAPER RATE! Here I'm paying $23.95 a month I think it is, she was also. Now she's paying $17.95!!!!!  Geez! I'm ready to call AOL and ask about it. Otherwise I'll have to go through the pain of changing and coming back. You would think they would take care of their customers that stick with them.

Anyone else have this happen?

If you do call them, let me know what they say. I was thinking of ditching AOL too. I pay $23.90. Hey, your friend didn't go from dialup to cable, did she? Because cable was cheaper than dialup when I had it.

She went with cable at the company she switched to, but she's back on dial up with AOL.

Call them and tell them you are thinking of cancelling. I just did this and they knocked me down to $9.95 a month for the next 6 months. I'll call them back after that and see if I can continue at that rate.
Usually they will offer you a deal if you say you will stay.

On a side note, I called my cable company and told them I was thinking of switching to DISH network because they were cheaper. (I really wasn't). They gave a deduction on my cable internet and some other places so now I am saving over $50 a month there without losing any services.

Give a call...it can't hurt!! Good luck.

P.S. When I called those places I just said that I was thinking about switching, although I really don't want to but I need to cut down on my expenses, blah blah blah..... If you approach them as cancelling reluctantly, they seem more willing to help. ::yes::

I had the same thing happen! Both AOL and Charter. Mom called AOL, and they just let her quit though. Go figure. Disconnected her there on the spot!

I did this and threatened to drop AOL and I was also reduced to $9.95 a month for two months, but after it went back up I did ditch them. I am just slow to get around to changing this type of stuff.

I just cancelled my AOL dial-up and switched to cable. They did not offer me any deals. They did explain the benefits of adding AOL to my cable and were offering me a free month of that, but no sweet deals.

They gave me the rate for 6 months. When I called I was all like...gee, I've had aol for sooo long, but my DH (yep, "blamed" the DH) told me I needed to cut expenses, blah blah blah. Turns out I've been with aol for 7 years! I knew it was a long time, just didn't know it was that long. They didn't want to lose me since I've been a loyal customer for so long

Whatever....just knock down my bill! LOL

P.S. I really have no intention of cancelling...although I really don't need it with cable...but I have had it a long time! LOL

Thank you very much!! I will do that. Glad you got better rates. :)

Augh! I've heard similar things also. A friend switch to another ISP but wanted to keep his AOL address. My other friend that just switched back said she was able to do that for $9.95 a month. Well, with him they wouldn't do it. What's with them?

I didn't get such a deal, in fact AOL was so verbally abusive on the phone i'd never use them again.

LOLOL! Blamed DH! I've had them about 8 years myself.

You know maybe - very unfair - but maybe there is a difference in how long you have been with them. I have been an AOL subscriber since I first got on-line so its been years. I don't know how many, but man, that must be a long time. I had it back when I lived with my parents at least seven years ago.

Its just a thought. I alwasy thought they totally sucked with their customer service and I hated them through my entire stint with them. But it was always the devil you know is better than the devil you don't for me. And now that I have MSN, I think I was right. They all stink in my opinion.

That was my male friend's experience with them. What do they do, cancel you right then so you can't even get online? I guess so. He said they canceled him right away, but luckily he had previously sent a global e-mail to his new account and ISP with all his contacts.

I was trying to cancel because I got cable modem, but the woman kept trying to "upsell" me on Broadband. I nicely explained that Broadband won't help me with my work computer and she kept going on and on. After (no lie) the 7th time asking her, begging her to cancel my account, I started screaming and my DH and child came running up the stairs wondering what was going on. My DH got on and he said the same thing I did 3 more times.

I like AOL's services, but we just didn't need it anymore. Now, after the way they treated me, i'd have a hard time going back when in fact I thought their service was good all the time I had it.

LOL! Very true. My friend who is back with them had gone to Comcast. She didn't like it at all. My male friend went with Cox and is still with them. But there's something really strange there, and Cox says they don't know what the problem is or why it's happening. Apparently, some of his e-mail ends up in his daughter's e-mail. WEIRD! Addressed to his e-mail address, but it goes in her e-mail "box" so to speak. He's not happy. Business e-mails are going there. I don't think I would want either of those ISPs!!

I think their pricing is strange. What do they base it on? Anything? You pay $5.95 or $7.95 with DSL. My friend was paying $9.95 with cable. I've heard DSL is more expensive than cable, but why the different rates? Hmmm.
