Let me give this question a try!

I first discovered DVC in ’99, during a cab ride from the Airport to the WDW Dolphin :earsboy: . During the drive our cabbie pointed over to a beautiful red resort, noting that some lucky people actually own vacation property here! … Now picture a giant light-bulk flashing over-head.

Of course, I got the video, did the tour, and talked to my guide  . But I also spent a lot of time on these boards, reading, asking questions, and getting the un-official info. :teacher:

If I had to get formal credit for my first purchase, I’d have to say it was the gang at disboards.com who convinced me that DVC was the way to go.

How about you? Who was the most influential in your decision to buy into DVC??? :sunny:

After Crunching the numbers, it only made sense!

My sister invited us down to OKW in a GV in 1996. After seeing OKW

.................we decided to join in early 1999.::yes::

I did not need anyone to convince me! ;) I stayed at the BWV shortly after it opened, and was very impressed with the resort. :bounce: It was not until a few years later that I seriously looked at DVC, then almost another year before DH finally listened :listen: to me talking about DVC--and "we" decided it made sense to buy.

The DIS was all I needed!

My DH and I were thinking about getting a vacation home until I realized that I would then have two houses to clean...
So, being the Disney fanatic that I am, I researched DVC and lurked around here for awhile. We bought at SSR, site unseen, last month. I am having so much fun planning our first few trips home. The only problem is, I want to stay at all of the DVC resorts!

There needs to be one more choice ..

It was my idea and I had to convince the rest of the family!:chat:

That's what convinced me. I own every Disney cartoon ever made (as far as I can tell). I have Tigger tattooed permanently on my leg. All but one T shirt that I own has a Disney character on it (the other one is the Appalachian Trail Conference, so I can be forgiven. It came free). All of my pajamas have at least one Disney character on them.

When I found out I could actually own a piece of Disney, I jumped at it. IT took us 4 years to save up for it, but now we own. . .

. . .now, if they only had a DVC campground, life would be phenomenal.

I bought in 1994. I had talked with a friend at work, who was a DVC Owner, and I thought he was NUTS! Who on earth would want to go on vacation to the same place every year :o

Anyhow, a couple of months after that, I decided to book a trip to WDW, it was going to cost us $3600....4 of us at Wilderness Lodge. I started thinking about DVC and how I already had a 1/3 of that cost spent on one trip (we were doing the Deluxe package).

I'm a single mom, so where else could he and I go and actually enjoy ourselves. So, I called Disney, and got the video! I watched it over the weekend, and just the free passes till the year 2000 convinced me to buy! I couldn't wait to call my DVC Rep on Monday Morning!

I started out with a Feb Use Year, even booked a trip, then they said that my use Year was changed to April...go figure.

Anyhow, this was the BEST decision I ever made in my life!

After see how much fun my kids had and them begging to come back. I called about the info and spent every day until it got here on this site. So you people can take most of the credit.

I saw an ad in a magazine (can't remember which one) in 1992. I cut it out and saved it...

Our next trip was in March 1993; we took the tour and decided against it.

We became members in July 1993. ;)

Just reading about it online for a year or so. I did not find the DIS till after we had already bought. My mind was made up before we even did the tour.

We have been going to WDW for years now and always used the discounts from The Disney Club membership and we had to find out another way to afford to go down every year since the Disney Club is done this year.::MickeyMo

I watched the video and requested some more info about DVC. I then called and talked to my Guide :chat: , Byron (who is sooooo very helpful) and got the process started.

We are making our first trip home to VWL in Dec. We can't wait and we know we will have a great time.::MinnieMo:

It would have been easier on me if I would read this board before we went to WDW
a couple weeks ago. I talked with sales 4 yrs ago and talked
myself out of it, can't remember why.
This last trip I thought I would talk with them again.
I talked with them, told them I would think about it. Most of
the rest of the trip I was running #s and wondering if other
members were happy.
I purchased into SSR the day before we left, Oct 4, and
now that I got back home to my computer/internet to read
this board, I now know I did the right thing. Would have been
easier on my nerves if I could have known this before or
while I was there.
Thanks to this board and everyone.

We heard about DVC from Family, but made the final decision after going to a "Dude Ranch" in New York State. Beds only 5'5" long, electricity going out if the two rooms next to each other tried to blow dry their hair at the same time etc....

Nothing compares to DVC and WDW for a wonderful vacation!

The DIS got me started thinking about, but I talked myself into it! (Other)

I started out with a negative view of DVC, but when I saw on this board that prices were going up (June 2002), I decided I would look into it, and "reject it once and for all".

I never did hear a pitch of any sort from DVC. When they assigned me a guide, they gave me someone who disappeared for three weeks on a combination of vacation and working a Disney Cruise. By the time he got back, I was ready to buy! I would still like to hear a DVC sales pitch!

We loved staying at WL, so when they built VWL it was a no brainer. However, I found these boards to be extremely helpful during the decision process, so I voted for the DIS Boards!! :)

I was looking to buy a timeshare I had set up appointments with Vistana and Silver Lake and I wanted one more big corporate timeshare to compare the other two with. My co- worker told me that Disney had a vacation club in Flordia. I decided to make and appointment with Disney also. I believe at the time OKW was the only resort in WDW HHI was in construction. I t turned out that I went to the Disney tour before the others even though that was the last appointment that I made. I went nuts I loved it. When I went to Vistana and Silverlake it couldn't hold a candle to Disney. I tried to talk myself out of purchasing Disney because it was more expensive. By the End of the weekend I call my guide up and went back to OKW and signed up. I have never regretted that I bought into the Disney Vacacation club. :)

I voted "Other." I found out about DVC in 1997 while reading rec.arts.disney.parks, a Usenet newsgroup. I was doing research there for a "once in a lifetime" trip I had booked for the family. There were 6 of us, with a second grandkid on the way, so I had booked a 2BR at BWV.

But once I read about DVC on r.a.d.p, and in particular resales, I compared DVC to what I was about to shell out. It was a total no-brainer, especially since the OKW resales back then included park passes.

Then I found the DIS boards, and never went back to r.a.d.p. Thank heavens for moderators! :)

Nobody had to convince me. As soon as WDW announced the opening of DVC I was very interested in the concept. I got the video, took the tour etc., but we were spoiled by staying at the MK and Epcot resorts and greatly prefer these locations. At that time DVC did not have a resort in these areas, so the whole DVC idea got put on the back burner.
Then BWV opened and the rest is history! I fell in love the first time I saw BWV and within 48 hours I bought a membership over the phone and then continued to add on pts at BWV. It has truely been one of the wisest and happiest decisions I have ever made in my life.
