Who Cares if We Can't Afford It?

This is why I love disboards...I too should pay down debt but instead I'm going to take my kids to Disneyworld. They are only little once, and I can think of no better debt to have then that created by spending time with them walking down Main St.

really glad you decided to go. Im the same. Cant really afford what I have booked (Ill find the money!) but it just had to be done, its been years of 7 day a week working for both of us, and if we didnt have any magic soon we would have melted! :surfweb:

Yay! I'm so happy to see that everyone is on the same page as me...

Even crazier, I think we're changing our trip and leaving this Friday instead. LOL!

I'm so glad I saw this thread. We can afford our Disney trip this year, but I just saw another thread of saving for college. I was just thinking should we putting that money into DD's 529 or retirement instead of Disney. The answer is probably yes, but we are going anyway.

Have a magical trip!! It's sometimes good for your sanity to get away from the things that are causing you so much stress.
We are in the same boat. We have had a couple of very stressful years, and I told my DH that we ARE going next year. He has until December 31, 2012 at 11:59 PM to get me and our DS's to WDW. I may have to have a couple of semesters where I only take two classes, and then get money back to pay for it in addition to using some tax return money. I know this is a bad thing to do, but we really need to get away as a family and get away from the stress that is our life right now. I have it narrowed down to either going in January or November (maybe even Spring Break). All dates have pro's and con's. Right now the January's pro of going sooner is putting in the lead. We just moved in with my inlaws while we try and find a cheaper home to rent in our DS's school district. I know all of our money should go towards that, but my sanity could really use a WDW trip. Plus it'll be like a reward for living with the inlaws and not killing anyone. It's not that I don't totally love my inlaws (they are the best). It's just hard to live with them. Especially since my mil had two injuries not long after we moved in and I've taken over as the "mom and caregiver" for everyone.

Im in the same boat as all of you and your all right the tax refund helps. but I we said with 40%off room rates this year how could we say no. with out the April extar cheek I for one don't think I would be going to Dusney World this year ... As a lot of you said life is too short and you guys are so right I learnd that last sempter and I say this thank GOD !!!!

Somebody will be along soon to post how bad you are for going on vacation when you have bills. Happens all the time on the Dis :confused3

Pishaw! It's your money, they are your bills, it's your family. Have a great time!
Life IS too short!

Yeah I'm starting to learn that there is always a negative nelly mood killer out there! LOL!

Let them pick on this instead... trip dates changed... now we're going in less then a week! LOL!

We didn't take a vacation for 12 years. Our first was to Disney in October 2010. I didn't know what I was missing. I've been sick for a lot of years, and we had a lot of financial issues with my husband owning his Construction business and work dwindling down to nothing in the last 3 years. He finally got a job as a working superintendent (Happy Dance) with a great company, and I started a small but successful business last summer. We used our tax return to book an eleven day trip, and can't wait to go. I just feel like we work so hard. We didn't take any breaks, and I think it nearly broke us. We didn't even realize until we took that time and went to Disney. Now we recognize that it is important to our sanity, our marriage, our family, etc... We started out with a 7 day trip, and have added a couple days based on specials that came out during the time between booking and now. I really feel like we just needed the time. When you never take time for yourself and the health of your family, the stress can overwhelm and take over. I refuse to let that happen, so I'm going to Disney! Peace out!

Good for you! I hope that you have a blast! Life is short and you will be glad you have such great memories one day. :thumbsup2 We are using my husband's bonus money for a big work project to go in April. Maybe should have put it in savings but you know what, our kids are only young once and we need a family vacation!! Can't put a pricetag on memories and smiles!

Have a great trip!!!! :goodvibes

I   this thread!! There is alway something else that I can spend my money on instead of Disney - but you only live once :) We have the BEST time when we are there & its so worth it to me !!!! My oldest son will be a senior :sad1: next year & who knows when our next family trip will be after that......

Have a GREAT time everyone....:thumbsup2

Add us to the list of May 11 - 18 Disney-goers! We too should have used our tax return to pay bills off. My DH and I have had a rough time of late and figure a Momma/Daddy trip back to the World is just what the dr. ordered!:thumbsup2

uuuuuugggghhhhh My husband is one of those "pay off your debt first" people..... :confused3

I'd rather go to Disney...

I am usually worried about our financial situation (we are not poor, I have a safe job and we have plenty of money in the bank) but after the last several months I too feel this DIS family is in dire need of an end of May trip. I have kept my spirits up the last few months reading the DIS. After the storm cleared I had hoped that we would get the FD code and we did!!! I love spending those snack credits!!! Going in May/June we will probably be using a few on water.

I'm so happy I came across this thread!!!
And SO HAPPY I'm not the only one that feels the way you all do.
Yes, we have bills... yes, DD is in college... yes, I really need a new car.... yes, I need to paint the house.... and so many other things.....
But DD and I really need this!
The last 3 years have been very difficult emotionally and DD and I need our time together away from everything else!! :goodvibes

So since Oct we've been saving every extra $1 and we used our rewards points, frequent flyer miles and whatever we could manage and WE ARE GOING TO DISNEY!!! :dance3: just 45 days!!!:dance3:

Phew! I'm glad I'm not the only one that does this!! Disney is the best place to get away from it all. So excited to be going soon!

Have great vacations everyone!

DH learned it was part of his marriage vows..."love, honor, cherish, and take on vacation every year." :)

Every family has different priorities. We live very modestly, so travel is my splurge. It makes me happy and DS loves Disney. It's an easy choice. :)

Well said!!

We just decided this morning to up and book a vacation for late May to DW. We CAN afford it, but like many others, could/should spend the money on something more practical.

We haven't been on a vacation together in 5 years and working hard all the while, so we just said screw it, here we come. Glad to see we're not alone.

Can't wait for 7 days at ASMo and our favorite place in the world!! :cloud9:

Add me to the list! DH is always saying he doesnt want to go and then worry about spending money, so I'm just doing this on my own and figuring it all out. Yes, there are other places the money could/should be spent, but.... oh well... DS is 15 now, in 3 years he'll be off to college, and who knows when we'll be able to go again.

The FD pin sealed it for me, and we're going the last week it's offered while youngest DD is still free! Where there's a will, there's a way! It all got put into perspective over the weekend, he was working by himself and hurt his arm pretty badly with a saw, just a bit more and he would have lost use of his hand.

We never know what the future brings, but it will bring a Disney trip for us this summer!
