Hi everyone booked a quick trip in oct for the boys and I basically to do a MNSSHP.
I had flights picked out through southwest and was ready to pull the trigger now all those flights have disappeared and when googled it says they cancelled a bunch with planes not coming available
I rem last year ppl discussing fairly last minute cancellations was it with westjet ? I can’t remember.
I’m seeing decent flights around $300 pp direct JetBlue out of Syracuse with exchange and times not being ideal I’m still looking but the thoughts of cancelled flights especially home bound with 2 littles on my own .. scares me
What airlines have you had troubles with ?
Thanks

Did SW contact you to say your flight has been cancelled? I've flown with them more than 100 flights and never had this happen.

Occasionally a flight disappears briefly but then reappears. Could that be the situation or did SW actually contact you to say your flight was completely cancelled and they could not accommodate you on another flight? I have never heard of that happening. They always move to a different flight and I check for times that work better for me. There is normally a window where you can book any flight on any day at absolutely no additional cost to you regardless of the current selling price of the flight.

I had flights picked out but hadn’t pulled the trigger . When I went back to book the flights are no longer availabel

There were tons of flights canceled due to weather this past March break and the vast majority were Southwest, for whatever that's worth. I don't know if that is because they had more flights to begin with. Our Spirit flight was canceled as well, but Spirit did not have anywhere near the number of cancellations as Southwest did, even though Spirit had multiple flights going out that day.

Southwest is ceasing operations at the Syracuse airport after 4 Aug 2024, You will have to choose Rochester or Albany for your flights.
--------------------------------------------------
Syracuse, New York – April 25,2024 – Southwest Airlines has informed the Syracuse Regional Airport Authority (SRAA) they will cease operations at Syracuse Hancock International Airport (SYR) on August 4, 2024. This news was part of a larger announcement the airline made early this morning regarding a widespread reduction of service across its network.

“While we are disappointed to hear this news, we recognize the challenges the airline is facing due to Boeing aircraft delivery delays and lack of available capacity,” said SRAA Executive Director Jason Terreri. “We appreciate Southwest leadership flying in to deliver the news in person yesterday. During this conversation, they shared our market was performing as expected for a new city. However, given the constraints of this new environment, the airline had to make a decision to reallocate existing aircraft to other priority markets.”

The SRAA will remain actively engaged with Southwest Airlines to determine a future date for the airline to relaunch service in Syracuse.

For questions regarding booked travel with Southwest, please contact the airline directly.

I've had no problem over the years with JetBlue out of Syracuse. Nice, small little airport with available airport parking or at a few park and fly airport hotels nearby. I checked their fall flights the other month. I noticed there is now an upcharge for carry on luggage. Not unusual with US airlines but something to budget for if flying carry on only. I'd also strongly warn about driving conditions through upstate NY from early Nov through March. White outs are real and I've been caught in a bad one enroute back to the border. It was scary and made me reconsider using Syracuse for those months.

I actually just cancelled my early September WDW reservation this morning so I'm no longer looking for flights. The hurricane forecast was too much for me this year. I love planning and preparing for my trip and constantly checking hurricane news over the summer would gut that for me. I've traveled to WDW many times in September over the past 10 yrs and I've always been very fortunate. I've either flown in a few days after a storm or flown out a few days before. In those visits, I watched the outer bands drop so much rain that ground floor rooms in Pop and All Star resorts had water seeping in from pooling on hard surfaces. No fun to wade through calf deep water for hours on end. I've had a lot of pure dumb luck with my September trips and realized over the past few weeks that my luck won't last forever. While Orlando fortunately is spared the worst of the storms, the impact is still significant on vacations. I know many friends on the Boards who dealt with that stress and had to make the hard decision to cancel their trips for themselves and their kids at the last minute before flying in. I made the tough decision early before booking my flights. For anyone else visiting in August or September, I wish you the very best. Maybe I'm just being terribly overcautious this year. But my gut is happier with my decision.

100 % Sam. A few years ago I white knuckled as far as Watertown and then grabbed a hotel there as my eyes and head hurt from trying to see and I was honestly scared. There’s not a lot in that stretch of highway that’s for sure for hotels or whatnot
I did end up booking westjet out of Toronto price wise was same as JetBlue but flight times were better . Fingers crossed weather has settled by end of October

Alaska imo is the best airline but I live on west coast so we fly out of YVR. I’m not sure if Alaska has any service near you.
My brother lives in NY and only flies Jet Blue.
Worst airline- Delta! Horrible customer service if something goes wrong.

We fly Alaska too (fly out of YYJ) and agree it has always been great to fly with- fantastic customer service. Will be heading to MCO the end of August and will be on Alaska again.

Fingers crossed, we are going mid/later September for our first trip in over ten years 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞 October was pricier & we don’t want to do after that

Us too! Transferring in SeaTac to MCO. Got the flight that lands at midnight 🙄 but was cheap! I think $212ish YVR to MCO. So sad they canceled the Canadian Alaska Mastercard. Just used my last companion fare for August trip

Completely agree - I'm so bummed that they cancelled the Canadian MC. I was hoping they would bring it back and I guess not.

I hope you have a wonderful trip!

$212 from YVR to MCO!? That's INSANELY cheap!!!!

Just had another successful flight with Allegiant out of Niagara Falls. But yes if the flight gets cancelled you are out of luck. Or get something in Buffalo later or the next day.

Another round trip in 2 weeks going to use AC from between YYZ MCO.

Do you fly victoria straight through to Orlando on Alaska?? Or do you have to jet over to Seattle first? We will be booking to fly to Fort Lauderdale for a cruise next year and I am seriously considering booking another airline than WJ

We always fly YYJ to Seattle, change flights and then non-stop to MCO. We’ve found Alaska Airlines to be really reliable and their hub is SeaTac.
