My father is buying into DCV. We are waiting for all the paper work to go through.

My father has a terrible time hearing on the phone. If I have the member number and the information about what he want to book, can I do the booking for him?

My understanding is if he doesn't have you listed on the deed as an owner, you would have to be listed as an associate member to be able to make reservations and speak to Member Services.

The above poster is correct, you will need to be either on the deed as an owner, or listed as an associate on his membership. An associate is basically a "points manager", and can make reservations, cancel reservations, bank points, etc. But an associate is NOT a DVC member, and will get no membership card, and not be able to get DVC discounts and perks.

An associate also has no financial obligation to pay the taxes or any mortgages that may be due.

Thanks for your quick reply Chuck and Wilson.

I have been reading and searching trying to get answers.

I finally found the DVC phone number but they do not open again until morning and we really wanted the paper work to get in the mail in the early morning.

I have been reading that a few people have also gotten some of the AP discounts when they were listed as Associate members, even if they had different addresses. I am wondering if this is still the case.

It seems that is might just be easier to put someone on the deed with him and phooey if some of the other siblings protest. :confused3 :rotfl:

They shouldn't be getting and it may have just been a mistake. It's only for the member and other family members living at the same address. All adults have to show proof that they live at the same address, like a drivers license.

Even if no one if listed on the original paperwork as an associate it can be done later through the member website. You cannot however change the names of owners without redoing the deed so if he wants to add someone as a co-owner it will be easiest at time of purchase.

Well I called member services today to just get a clear definition of an "associate member". They politely told me that they could not even talk to me to give me the definition.:rotfl: Oh well I tried.

Today me and a few of my siblings were added to the deed. I think it will cause some complications in the future but for now at least I will be able to make the plans for this years family reunion trip.

Thanks for all your help.

I am certain I will have moire questions in the near future.:woohoo: :yay:

Just remember that if anyone on the deed as an owner hits financial hard times and declares bankruptcy the DVC ownership can be jeopardized as an asset, whether the person in bankruptcy has contributed one penny to the DVC ownership or not.

Thanks Chuck. I will keep that in mind. As of now everyone is pretty stable but I know things can change rapidly.
