who are the servers to run from

I've seen a few posts here of bad servers and with our cruise approaching-wanted to keep a list on hand-we are cruising June 26. Getting a bad serving team can almost ruin the trip. I know people have different experiences, but there are some pairs that are way below excellent. Who are they? We have had some on previous cruises that were just okay. On first cruise Anita was homesick and sullen. On second cruise Glenn was very formal--didn't warm up til the end. Luckily Gabby and Navneet made up for them. On last cruise Pirom was great, Roger seemed irritated that we had our table moved and seemed forced in his politeness. Thanks for any warnings.

You mean abut time for his tip?

Didn't make that connection, but maybe that was it. He was hard to understand and just business like. No small talk or tricks like everyone posts here.

Our servers were awful. I sailed 5/8, but I already forgot their names. They may have been Roland and Ansell or something like that

That's so funny! We had Roland and Ansel at the end of March, and my son has asked if we can request them when we sail again! (I'm sure that by that time, they'll have retired! :o )

I found Ansel a bit much on the "excellent" thing, but at least I had been prepped by these boards and knew why he was repeating himself. Othere than that, his service was really good, if not "excellent." Roland was GREAT, with magic tricks for the kids, etc. I thought he should be promoted.

I don't doubt that you had a bad experience. It just reminds me (and I NEED to be reminded of this) that everyone's experience can be different, even when you think you've removed all the variables--because I'm an obsessive planner who's always trying to remove all the variables!

I haven't read anything on the boards about Ansel. Why was he repeating himself?

Almost all servers give the excellent speech the first night-UGH- and some repeat the excellent theme-to be sure they get excellent reports.

Funny in for DCL cruises I have never gotten the excellent speech that I can recall from a server except for on the final night when reminding me to fill out the survey.I did have Piro for a server and after everything he said AH YES EXCELLENT.My kids got a big kick out of this and repeated it everytime someone told them somethin at home.
OH BTW te only mediocre server was Cedric. We only had him one night and then he was ill so I have a feeling he was under the weather the first night as well.Lucily non of us got what he hd.

Only 2 weeks to our cruise. Any other servers that did not provide the type of service expected? Is everyone still getting the excellent speech? Is it rude to cut the server off before the speech since we have heard it on previous cruises? Thanks for any replies.

We had ---- Marjan----from Macedonia and Vijay from India....they were great. They helped with whatever we needed, played with the kids joked around. We heard they made Server and asst server of the cruise. Perfect team. We, of course, tipped them daily AND gave them extra at the end.

We had Glenn and Carlos. I agree that Glenn started out a little formal, but we "forced" him to lighten up. We just acted crazy, asked him if he knew any tricks, etc. He was really formal with my childen, calling them Princess Aleena, Princess Leslye and Master Jonathon. They thought that was great. I cut off the excellent speech. After every meal when they asked how everything was we all (12 of us) responded with excellent! That seemed to do the trick.

It also may have lightened Glenn up when we asked Adrian (the server from the next table) to come do a magic trick we saw him do for his table. After that Glenn was bending over backwards! Adrian entertained us as much as our guys so we tipped him as well.

Last month (the May 16 4-day Wonder cruise) I joined several DIS friends and others at the first dinner and, as we had wondered beforehand whether we would get the EXCELLENT speech, felt the tension of suppressed hilarity as our server (Roland) approached. When introduced to him, several of us stated how excellent it was that he would be our server and, as he was reciting the specials on the menu, someone would state excellent enthusiastically after each item. After five minutes of this foolishness he smiled at the joke and I don't believe he uttered the "E" word in our presence for the nest of the cruise.... Forewarned is forearmed...and the service was...excellent...

The Servers will be hoping you put Excellent on the comment cards as IF they get good ratings during the week, they are then rewarded with a lunch OR breakfast off the next week. As they NEVER have a day OR evening off in SIX MONTHS, these extra "power-nap" times are much sought-after! I dont think many folk are aware of this info. Disney want them to give 100% to the guests, and this is a very small "bonus" if they achieve great comments.Nat:Pinkbounc

Going on our 3rd 7-day cruise this Oct. Here are my thoughts re: servers. First cruise, we had wonderful servers, Aaron and Mikolos. Since it was our first cruise we didn't know where these guys fit in the scope of things, but we enjoyed thier service. Next trip, 1 year later, we were thinking of requesting the same servers but thought we would like to see someone "new". Big mistake. We got Leroy and Joseph. Leroys idea of explaining a dish was to read the menu out loud over your shoulder. Joseph was fine, but Leroy never stopped bossing him around. It was a little distracting. :( So, on our up and coming trip we plan on hunting down Aaron again. Better to stick with what you know!
Hope you have a great trip!

had glenn also, started out real formal but had him smiling and having fun, i gave him a light up necklace which he wore, and on the last night gave him a mickey from the disney store, the one that was for the gift card and put his tip in there, and he said i was the only one that had ever given him a gift

I wonder if it's the same Glenn that we had 2 years ago. Do you remember where he was from? He had told us he previously worked for another cruise line-I forget which one, but it was one that I remember thinking you had to be rich to go on. I thought he may have been formal because of that.

can someone explain to me how you would go about avoiding getting a certin server, do you find out ahead of time who your servers are?? and if its a server with a bad rep. who do u ask to have them changed, what about when your on the cruise and you dont like your servers who do u ask for new ones?? thanks

Has anyone ever asked to change servers or complained to the head of dining room and seen a change in the servers attitudes?

We had Leroy as well and were not impressed at all. We had a 2 1/2 year old with us...and there was no effort there for my son at all. I'd seen more with the kids from other servers. We just had his menu set w/crayons and that was it. The assistant server Nicholas did try to make him a hat on one of the nights...it didn't work to well. It was Nicholas' second week and he needed a lot of work. We had to ask him to get drinks every night...and we ordered from the bar/ mixed drinks or a bottle of wine. On all other cruises I have been on, they are asking you about drinks...they make a tip on them. Needless to say, our dining room service was poor....but PALO was great :0)
