Anyone out there familiar with the Whitehall Hotel in Chicago? My stepson is getting married at the Chicago Historical Society later this year so we thought we'd book a room downtown and enjoy the sights. Know there are lots of hotels along the Magnificient Mile, but we're curious about the Whitehall.

Appreciate any info or suggestions

It's a historic hotel right in the middle of the Mag Mile area. It was buit in the 20's, so the rooms are smaller than you might expect in a US hotel. I see reviews of the service vary widely, (see tripadvisor), but I personally don't think you could go bad staying here. Around Chicago, it has a good reputation, and I've personally not heard bad about it.

Do check sites for rates - as with all Chicago hotels, there can be some real deals during the times between tourist and convention season (might be better than points). It is a small hotel (~200 rooms).

I stayed at the Whitehall on points right when we bought our resale. The previous owner had points that couldn't be banked by the time we bought it. The Whitehall is really a beautiful place ... if you like "Boutique" hotels. However, I wouldn't book it on points again as it was very expensive.

I stayed there a couple of years ago(not on points). It was in a nice location. 2 or 3 blocks from magnificant mile. There are alot of nice outdoor restaurants around. Nice area.

We're definitely going to go the cash route as we don't have lots of points. We'll also be checking out the other hotel rates, but thought this might be nice alternative to the huge ones. Thanks so much for your ideas and feedback ...

When we were there it seemed that every other person had his or her dog with them. The hotel obviously did not prohibit dogs. Several of the dogs were very large and quite a surprise when they came out of the small elevator.

We enjoyed our stay and the service was good.

No Pool, so we passed.

Goldi

Good Location for the Theater, and I guess Lion King is coming back...

I would definitely stay at the Drake Hotel if you are paying cash anyway. It is lovely, right on Michigan Avenue, classic...and if it is summer, right across the street from the Oak Street Beach. Great views from lots of the rooms of the lake and Lake Shore Drive..Whitehall is nice, but if I had the choice would pick the Drake if I wanted classic. If you want new, etc...there is the Peninsula(expensive, but rated number one in the country), the Four Seasons which is attached to the mall with Bloomigdale's in it..and the Ritz..attached to Water Toiwer Place..with Marshall Field's, etc... :boat:
