dd's school has gone dress code this year and we went to a uniform place here in Toronto but spent a fortune and don't really want to do that again next year.

her pants should still fit her next year because of the changable waste band so what i'm looking for would be white shirts.

we'll be going to stay a few days in Buffalo in the summer but where can we find plain white shirts - not tshirts.

i'm looking for nice blouses (maybe with lace) white
polo shirt in white or navy
golf shirts in white or navy
white or navy sweaters (though i doubt they'll be selling those in the summer)

someone told me last year that the uniform type stuff goes out in August but i dont' know where to look.

While I am not sure they all sell them, but here all the Wal-Marts and Targets sell uniforms. I know you can get the polos and sweaters there, not sure about the white blouses.

Some Targets and Walmarts sell the uniforms, some only sell them at back to school time.

Suggest that your school start a uniform exchange.

We get a lot of our stuff at the thrift store.

We've had lots of school uniforms -- the best we found was to spend a bit more and get the polos from Lands End.

Most major stores carry some kind of uniform clothing but places like Old Navy, Kohl's, Lands End, Walmart, Target, etc usually have white polo shirts in stock most of the spring/summer (Land's End year round). I would suggest getting something that you can bleach if they are going to white shirts :scared1:.

DS8 goes to a private school and also has to wear a uniform. We don't have to go through the uniform store to get his white button down shirts. I can go to any of the major stores (JCPenney, Macy's, Sears, etc.) as well as places like Kmart, Target and Walmart. We have a Vanity Fare outlet near us and I go there to get his shirts.

The only time I have to go to the uniform store is to buy him clothes that have to have the school logo on it. Other than than, I get everything cheaper at the regular stores.

Old Navy

Online has MUCH more selection. They do come out here in early August, and sell out very quickly. That is why I tend to like to order online.

Thankfully this is DD's last year in Elem. with the all white. I am thankful for that, I hate the all white. Next year is private HS and we have no option but to buy from their store. The same we do now for DS.

Be thankful you can buy anywhere, the price is fantastic this way.

We buy our uniform polo shirts at Aeropostle. They are regular priced at $19 or so but we never pay that. They have sales all the time and are online. We usually get them for 2 for $20 or something like that. They hold up pretty well too. :thumbsup2

I usually buy it all on-line rather than running from store to store. Target, Kohl's, Sears, and K-Mart are the sites I have used.

:)

Children's Place also has a uniform line - not sure when it's available, though since our kids have to wear the crested ones from their campus store, but I seem to remember noticing a little section before Christmas.

Wow, white shirts for kids? ya'll are brave. A white shirt wouldn't make it through a single day with Christian. Who makes these decisions? Men who don't do laundry?

You know the perfect color for school uniforms? Red shirt and navy pants. Doesn't show spaghetti stains.

I have always thought white for kids was ridiculous too. None of my kids go to school that require uniforms (thank GOODNESS) but someone got Caitlyn a beautiful baby pink velour yoga set for Christmas - I just shook my head, I knew exactly what would happen. Sure enough, the FIRST day she wore it to school, despite my pleadings that she be careful - chocolate pudding all down the front of the jacket. SIGH. Caitlyn wears a LOT of red and navy and dark purple and other easy-to-hide-stains-clothes.

OP, Gymboree.com has a uniform section. They sell long and short sleeved polos in white, as well as a cute navy cardigan and other uniform basics. Their clothes always wear really well.

White you can bleach, usually, it's colors like light blue or yellow that are REALLY bad because there isn't' much you can do about stains on those colors.

I have seen uniform sections in urban Old Navy stores. You may also be able to check online at Old Navy.

Not necessarily. Most whites say on the tag non-chlorine bleach only. I use Clorox for colors on DS8's school shirts. I wet his shirt where the stain(s) are then pour a little Clorox for colors on it and rub it in. Then I put it in the washing machine. It usually does the trick. However, there have been times where even Clorox doesn't work b/c the stains are so bad.

Scotchgard is your friend, LOL. Seriously, I've done white for 9 years now, and IMO it's the best choice for messy kids. The middle school allows red as well, so DS now has both, and the white is easier because it can be bleached. Scotchgard keeps down the minor wear and tear, and I bleach-vat them all about once per quarter. (I don't find food stains to be the biggest issue; the biggest villains are ink and grass, both of which do show on red shirts.)

I bought DS white shirts at Old Navy when he was younger and quickly outgrew them. Now that he is in men's sizes I buy them at Land's End. (Not that he isn't still growing, but the men's shirts are all one length, so he doesn't go through them as quickly.)

FTR, I Scotchgard ALL of my kid's clothes, not just their uniforms. That's why DD is able to wear her brother's 10 yo playclothes; not a spot on them. I also Scotchgard all of DH' dress shirts to keep away sweat stains. Oh, and the best stain remover on the market, hands down, is ZOUT. I've noticed that WalMart does not carry it for whatever reason, but KMart and Target do; trust me, it's good stuff.
