I went home for lunch and when my little girl smiled at me, I noticed something white on the inside of her bottom lip. So I got her to show it to me - she is almost 2 - and there are all these white patches on the linside if her lip! I have no clue what this could be, and I am waiting for our pediatrician to get back from lunch so I call and see if we can bring her in.

Any ideas to ease my mind while I wait for the next 45 minutes?? It is just on the inside of her lip - not in her tongue.

My tropical fish get that, maybe she has ICK?

I'm kidding.

Is it possible that she's biting her inside of her mouth? I do it out of habit and I get white patches where I've chewed too much. I think it is dead skin.

I've worked in a dental office and we would get kids with symptoms like this. The dentist would say it's not serious and it's just some sort of virus.

I don't know if it's the same thing but I just you to feel better while you're waiting for the doctor :)

Question - how do you see the inside of a fish's lips? Do fish have lips?? :lmao:

My liitle girl has been known to make fish faces - as you can see in my siggie, but I am betting that is not it.

Thank you for the laugh though!

Thank you. I was thinking it was Thrush, but I looked it up and that seems to be mainly on the tongue. I have no idea and wish they wouldnt take a 2 hours lunch!!

Maybe she ate some fruit she's allergic to. Try having her swish out her mouth with Listerine if you have it. It works great on getting rid of cold sores in the mouth right away.

She hasnt eaten anything new in the past week. And I doubt she would swish it around in her mouth. She would probably just try to drink it!

My daughter has white patches on her tongue - it is called a geographic tongue, benign and weird looking. Nothing to worry about..

Could be biting, canker sores or just the way she is... Hope the Dr. calls soon.

I am waiting and watching the clock. They should be back in 19 minutes.

Well, the nurse finally called me back and they think it is Thrush as well. Luckily, they are just going to call in a presrciption and I dont have to take her in!

Wow...good thing I'm not a dr...I wouldnt' have guessed thrush...I woulda just thought she had canker sores or was biting her lip...

Glad ya got somethin called in tho!

I was going to say thrush too.. I get those white patches from Advair if I don't rinse my mouth very, very well after using it..

Adult DD gets it quite often from certain antibiotics and other medications.. There's a special mouth rinse she has to use, but unfortunately I can't remember the name of it..

Hope your DD is doing better now..:goodvibes

Thrush does happen on the insides of lips as well as the tongue.
