White noise?

My youngest DD, 2, is a very light sleeper. If I want something for white noise, is there anything in the room that will work or do I need to pack something from home? We will be staying at Pop, first time at a Value. If I have to bring something, any ideas? We're trying to conserve suitcase space since now we're charged for any checked bag!

small white noise machine is essential for our packing!! just do a search and you'll find some not bigger than a salad plate!

we put it on the hall side of the kids' beds because noise from the hall and doors slamming can be LOUD.

we also bring a small night light. (actually, we used to bring a string of christmas lights to use at night...fun, and they light a nice pathway from the beds to the bathroom).

Have fun!

edited to add: to fully answer the question, I will tell you that in the WDW resorts I have stayed in, there is only sometimes a bathroom fan (and not loud enough to cover any outside noise) and the air conditioners/fans in the rooms aren't loud enough.

I have a white noise cd, Grandma's Fuss Buster, is the name of it. My DS listens to it at naps and bed time. I used our portable dvd player to play it when we went in Sept. We are going back and I was thinking about renting a Cd player from A Baby's Best Friend.

I thought I was the only freak who traveled with one. I need it to sleep and I put it on for DD. Homedics makes on fairly small. Target had them last I knew.

Thanks. Had no idea they made them so small! It will just be a must-purchase before we go!

We stayed at POP this past Thanksgiving. There is nothing in the room that will work (bathroom fan and a/c both too quiet). We were already having groceries delivered by Garden Grocer, so I just added a box fan to our order. That is what we use at home and are "addicted" to that sound. It was very convenient and worked perfectly. Enjoy your trip!

We travel with not one but 2 sound machines!!! We take them everywhere we go. My kids sleep with them in their rooms at home so they are a must when we travel. They drown out any hallway noise or noise from the room next door.

the a/c & heating wall unit in all the rooms are plenty enough noise for us. We had a very stupid idea once of staying at POP with a poolside room and one morning about 3am I was woke up by about 5 drunk adults in the pool outside. I turned that unit on and I could barely hear them afterwards. Luckily they did not wake up my kids or they would not have had a "Magical Day". :rolleyes1

We always bring 2 or 3 sound machines when we go anywhere. My entire family can't sleep without them. I need my sound machine. You can get small ones at Target or Walmart for under $20.00.

What about a womb bear? My DS love that. when the batteries are brand new it last for 45-1hr. Its a teddy bear so it's "squishable" (Is that a word?:lmao:)

Glad to know that Gardnegrocer will deliver box fan. that thought haden't crossed my mind. We drove last time so just packed our fan, but we are considering flying next trip so I thought about fed ex or something. Gotta have the fan.

OP: What if anything does your DD sleep with at home?

DS3 sleeps with one of the small, portable white noise machines in his bedroom every night, then we take it with us wherever we go! Glad to know it's not just us!

We stayed deluxe and they have ceiling fans so we just used that (none of us can sleep without the fan noise...we actually bring box fans to other places we stay when we know there is no ceiling fan in the room). For my ds he sleeps with his celing fan on AND white noise from the cd player. We used to play cds but the cd player went out on us so now we use static on a radio station. He's 4 and he's been listening to it since he was home from the hospital...it was the only thing that would put him to sleep during the day. For him, I take portable radios to people's houses if he's staying at grandma's or aunt/uncle's house.

I know whatever works, works-but hasn't this ever creeped you out? I think I would probably cry if I woke up in the middle of the night and there was staticky radio coming from DD's room:scared1: I'm a wimp.

We always stay at Pop and I may be imagining this, but I could swear that in Jan' 08 our alarm clock in the room had some "noise" settings on it. I can't really remember what they were - maybe waterfall, rain, something like that? Hopefully someone else will know if I'm losing my mind or not.

DD doesn't sleep with anything at home, but it's also pretty quiet in our house. Very quiet neighborhood, and once we put her down upstairs, no one really makes any noise that would wake her up. If there's any noise for an adjoining room or the hallway, though, she'll have a hard time sleeping. Napping especially!!
